Got another S7 today and got it running.  I'm now at 13 TH.

2 S7s, 2 S5s and a lonely S3 just chugging along.

@ckkano since you brought up block size and BIP100 and I've been gone from the thread a while (months) can you summarize if/when/how you intend to support block size changes? Obviously I mean the over 1mb changes. I ask because it seems miners will get the "vote" on what to support (but really that means the pool owners).

Sorry if you have discussed before but I read back 10 or so pages and didn't see anything.

Anyway, I put up the limit to 988,888 yesterday (and edited the first post)

Nothing has changed since the BIP100 vote was added to our (and other) pool coinbase sigs, other than gazik showing that BIP100 was a scam by the bitcoin core devs.
The bitcoin core devs seem to think that they control bitcoin, and that it isn't a peer 2 peer currency.
There are ways to prove them wrong, when you have a very large % of the mining network showing agreement for a change that the devs want to flex their imaginary power and push their agenda and bury it rather than proceeding with the obvious agreement of the majority of bitcoin mining.
The core devs want side chains and are pushing that since that is in their personal financial interest.

There is no need to force anything, there is a need to put in place BIP100 and allow the network vote, to accept or deny it, to occur.

I don't like the idea of block sizes growing at an exponential pre-determined rate, determined by one person.
Over 99% of the mining network has agreed to that and thrown out BIP101

Yes, in general, any block voting will effectively mean that pools will decide the vote, but the simple issue there is that if people care about bitcoin and what they want, they can vote by going to a pool that does what they want.

I also think that what I've done with regards to SPV is a point to show how bitcoin can work.
1 person can't make a change, but 1 person can inform others and make it well known what is going on and effect a change that way.

Happy Saturnalia Smiley

At least my miners are in a datacenter now.
If I still had them at home I would be hating life.
Need COLD weather to play at home.

Need to break out the avocado I believe.

65 degrees here in NY State.  We *never* hit these temps.  Normally where I am we have feet of snow at this point and temps closer to 0 than 100.

It's an odd year so far!!

One minor problem with bitcoind is that you can't tell it to change that limit without shutting it down and restarting it.
Since I now run 3 bitcoind on the main server it's not that much of an issue to switch settings I guess.
Just interested why 3 bitcoind on the same server?  I understand they are specified as backups to ckpool and maybe connected to different nodes but will you share detals?

Think it's as simple as keeping the pool running if one instance of bitcoind were to crash. Redundancy.
Yep that's the original reason without a doubt.

Now I run 3 coz the 3rd one is a more standard bitcoind that, in the completely unexpected event of there being a problem with our much faster bitcoinds, there's always the final 3rd local fallback.
Using a remote bitcoind for any reason is a bad idea IMO.

Thanks for the explanation. Can't argue against increasing it, more fees collected for us. Smiley
Yeah it wont actually make much of a change in the amount of fees coz the tail end of the block of course gets filled with the lower fee or fee free transactions.

But I guess since blocks really are quite full now most of the time, that will be a small increase.

Pity about garzik and the rest of the core cronies scamming everyone with BIP100 that they (now) clearly never intended to implement.
They want side chains that require blocks running out of space, not having space to grow, so that's most likely the reason for suggesting BIP100 but (now) clearly never intending to implement it.
Even their latest "segregated witness" they want to push hard and fast is another element of their side chain agenda.
I even contacted garzik about BIP100 months ago and he never bothered to reply.
Meh.

Heh that was also a 48minute network block so we packed in the mining fees very well ... 2.5% Cheesy

Nice! Kano, I've been meaning to ask. Why are our blocks never over 888KB? Why keep them from being as close to 1MB as possible?
The block size setting (as it says in the first post) is 888,888 Smiley

Sorry, didn't phrase my question properly. I know they're set to 888,888 max. I was wondering what made you pick that number, is it as simple as 8 being your favourite number or something? Also, why limit it at all? Block propagation speed? Sorry if you've explained this already, I haven't read the whole thread.
Basically to keep it a small amount under the limit.

Originally it was being a small pool vs a bunch of very large pools that rarely filled up their blocks and do all sorts of bad things.

Now, there's no real reason other than to keep a small limit below, coz I don't like pushing the limit and finding it failing for whatever reason there might be by accident in core bitcoind ...

One minor problem with bitcoind is that you can't tell it to change that limit without shutting it down and restarting it.

I guess I could move it up to say ... 988,888 if everyone is happy with that.
Gotta cover my paranoia of not touching that limit Smiley
Yeah we do really put out our block changes very fast now so there's certainly no reason to not have it at least a bit higher.

I'll push it up to 988,888 a bit later Smiley

Just a wild guess here: 8 is a 'lucky' number in some cultures.  Though I don't believe in superstition because it's bad luck...
