I am seeing a lot of new users here asking/talking about the 5 times Network Difficulty.
I am going to try to explain and simplify it:

.... Everyone keep eating chicken!

Very nice explanation, easy to follow and hopefully it will be easy to remember.

I had a nice fillet steak so I am hoping this gets us a 3rd block within 24hours (before 09:16)  Roll Eyes....who will accept the challenge?.... Roll Eyes

I am seeing a lot of new users here asking/talking about the 5 times Network Difficulty.
I am going to try to explain and simplify it:

Let us pretend that the current difficulty is 1000.  Cheesy
Then that means we should expect that 1 in every 1000 shares submitted would solve a block.
If we solve a block on the 1000 share, then we would have solved it at 100%

With a PPLNS structured payout each block found gets payed out based on the LNS (Last N Shares) in this case the N = 5. So in our example the LNS = 5 x 1000 = 5000 shares.

If you just started with the pool and we found a block on the 1000th share (100%) and you had submitted 10 shares, you would not receive payout of 10/1000 = 1% of the block because the payout takes into account the LNS, so your payout would be 10/5000 = 0.2%

Now lets say we find another block on the 1000th share and you submitted another 10 shares, again you won't get the 1% but instead you will get 20/5000 = 0.4% so you get paid for the previous shares submitted as well.

Now lets get wild and say we just found our 5th block on the 1000th share (5 in a row at 100%) and you submitted 10 shares each block, your total would be 50 and total shares would be 5000 so 50/5000 = 1% now you have reach the full "ramp up" and are getting full payout.

This is what ends up working out great if we find blocks more often than 100%, you have the potential of getting your shares paid more times.

Example continued: Lets say you have been mining with us for a long time (your fully "ramped up") and we find 4 blocks at 100% and 2 at 50%, that gives us the total 5Nd of 5000 shares, but we found 6 blocks. You have submitted your usually 50 shares during that time so you are at 50/5000 = 1%, but now so now you are getting 1% of 6 blocks instead of 1% of 5, but you have not submitted any more shares.

This is what we are talking about with the 5Nd, you won't be getting full payout until you have been mining here for the duration of the 5Nd. You will still get paid for all shares submitted and those shares are not getting paid any less, and if the pool is lucky you get paid more.

I know a lot of us like to mention this because people tend to join CKPool then they see their first payout and think "Wow this pool pays awful, I'm leaving", but then when they leave they should still see payments coming in and in the end they probably got just as much as they would have somewhere else, and if the pool was on a luck streak even more.

Hopefully that helps, anyone please feel free to correct me on anything or fill in with something I missed.

I think this may have been my longest post ever.  Grin

edit: I just looked at the "Shifts" page on Kano.is and we are currently sitting at getting paid 8 times for some shares! Everyone keep eating chicken!

enter here your kano.is username and kano.is password and the 2FA 6 digit code.

Thanks!

Now, I just hope I can remember that damn password.  I've had it set up on "save password" for the longest.  Which means I never bothered to remember it.  Maybe I can figure it out.

if all else fails with password there is password reset. No reset for 2FA though so make sure you made a note of your 2FA secret key and store that safely somewhere (not on your phone).

Got it... Thanks.

After about 10 to 12 attempts, I finally remembered my pool password.  It's long as hell.

Yes, I'll remember my secret key with no problem.

use your kano.is password, the password for OTP auth is just for your phone.
Also should blur your username !!!!!!

Understood with blurring my username.  Guess we'll see how good the 2FA works then.

If you both would delete the image, it would be appreciated and save forum space as well.

Uh oh,

I think I just mucked up!

It said I was set up.  I may just be ignorant of how to log in to it.

I thought I set up 2FA with OTP Auth.  I got an email from kano.is saying it was set up.  However, When I try to log in at kano.is, it only refreshes the page and does not let me log in.  Can someone assist me?  I might end up having to create a new account and start over on 500N.

EDIT:  Just a moment.

EDIT #2:

Thanks, I just created an account, I am guessing work done under my BTC address will not be added to my 5nd status but will be paid. I am hoping I am wrong, or else my 4.5 days will start from today. Just wondering why my account page shows 2 hash rate "Hash Rate:23.86/19.76THs" on the upper right corner below user id.

I think it is...
Share rate / hash rate

depending on your difficulty like shown on your workers screen.

My 1 day hashrate seems low. Is it due to db issue? I haven't registered yet, just using my BTC address to mine. Been mining here since 2 hours prior to block 387268. How do I find out if I am close to 5N?

ooops forgot to hit post... anyway I wrote that it will take time for the 7day rate to get up to speed (1 day does seem low). Someone with more knowledge on the 5N should be able to help you with your question.

The long and the short of it is..... just keep mining here and you will soon receive full benefits Smiley And register for access to more miner/pool stats.

The 5N is a moving target based on pool hash rate, but its currently around 4.5 days, as long as pool hash stays constant, then you should see full reward in 4-5 days of mining here. Again, if you leave you will continue to gain rewards till all your shares fall off the 5N at that time. But, I've tried them all and there is no reason to leave, you will not find a better paying pool or support for that matter.

Yes, the BTC address mining you did will be paid separately, I think. And now you stats will be under your account. As for the 2 hash rates, left one is 5min avg and right one is 1hr avg.

I read what is recommended for 2FA but I need to ask because I was unsuccesful to make it work with Authy. Could Authy be used for 2FA on kano.is?
I only use Authy and it would be pain in the *ss to use multiple apps for 2FA keys.
Thanks.

I have tried as did another member without success. It might be that AUTHY is not using SHA256 which Kano uses. I am going to play around a bit more with AUTHY to see if we can work out some compatible settings, but it looks like you will need to use another app in the mean time if you want 2FA.

EDIT:

I chose SHA256 ... coz we mine bitcoins using SHA256 Smiley
The default used on the net seems to be the much simpler to crack SHA1

seems that Kano doesn't use default settings for 2FA authentication which AUTHY doesn't seem to support. But other F2A apps do.
I know it sucks because AUTHY  is amazing.

Hello kano,

Currently I have worker names setup in kano.is

If i changed my miners to use BTC id as userid, will I miss any payment due? restart my 5Nd progress?

Apologies, if the questions has obvious answers - I am still on the mining learning curve.

Thanks
TMT

See his answer to similar question a few posts above yours.

However, if you set the username account payout address to be the same, they will be combined in the payout since I add together amounts sent to the same address.

got it!

missed that post.

Somewhat of the same question.  If I keep on adding miners to the pool, does each miner/previously added miners have to go through the 5 day ramp up?

not each miner no, they will just add to your total hash rate (assuming same BTC address/account). However to get payout based on the new hash rate you will need to wait a bit for the 5N to be at the new total hash.

Mine for a Bit
Can someone please help:

I would like to point some miners this way, but cannot find the proper verbiage to put into my miners.  It is very easy to input into Slush's by entering in the following, but can someone tell me how to write it for CKPool?

URL:        stratum+tcp://us-east.stratum.bitcoin.cz:3333
Worker:   username.worker1
Password: 123456

What do you write for CKPool (I have followed the instructions on CKPool and cannot get it!)

url: stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333
worker: your BTC address (or register for a kano.is account and use your username)
password: anything e.g 12345

https://kano.is/ explains everything.

Thank You VERY Much!!  I am going to redirect some miners there now.
