I will NOT buy current hardware from anyone unless I can grab a firesale price. ( 2-3 months payback on hardware cost at today's profitability ) Why?

I have not an inkling of doubt that Bitmain is on the verge of a 10NM release in ASIC. Probably July or August.

I think this because;

a) Bitmain is wholesaling every different kind of unit in 16NM Technology from every nook and cranny of their warehouses. ( 13th S9's??? Really? T-9's Really??)

b) Bitmain just issued huge numbers of "coupons" to entice buyers to clear out their inventory. Coincedenatlly, those "coupons" expire in June 2018.

c) Bitmain "wanna be competitors" are chomping at the bit to grab Bitmain market share. We all know how Bitmain feels about that!! No way They are gonna get beat on "first to market" on 10NM.

d) Greedy resellers piled on huge orders of S9's and L3+'s at the highs of the market in hopes of getting rich quick. Most thsoe units never sold to "suckers" (check the hardware forum" You can't throw a dead cat in there without hitting an S9 or L3+ ad.)

In 3-4 months you'll be able to buy ANY 16nm ASIC for pennies on the dollar. Wait for it.

The problem I see with the 841 is timing.  If it had come out a year ago, or it had done 18+ TH, it would be awesome.  But it's taken 1.5 years since the S9 for canaan to come out with something that just barely beats it.

Presumably Bitmain has also been working on something quite a bit better than the S9.  And we all know how they like to crush competitors.

True, everyone has to make their own decisions about where to spend their money based on their own logic and experiences.  I for one am completely fed up with the crappy hardware Bitmain puts out.  Fully 38.5% of my antminer S9s are either dead or have serious failure issues and they have all run in a professional data center from day one.  My Avalon equipment are just steady and boring...they just produce above their specs everyday.

EDIT:  I didn't include my S7s above because they are older.  They are at a 50% fail rate.

EDIT2:  No one likes to factor in equipment failure in their break-even calculations.  What do you think a 38% failure rate does to those calculations?

You guys should do the efficiency math on the 841. It draws 1250W and the average hash rate you can expect is 13.55TH. That looks slightly better than the S9 which draws 1320W for the 13.5TH model.  Power usage is the largest cost by far over the long haul unless your electricity is free.  Reliability is another big factor and I can tell you since I run both the Avalon wins hands-down in that category.  I can't tell what the final cost is going to be but one clue is a 20 pack is $2050 each.  That part will be revealed this month.

I'll confess that I almost squealed like a little girl reading the specs mentioned above... Embarrassed

...clip...

Shortly after I posted about the S9 I received an email from Blokforge about the 841’s. This looks to be the best competition to Bitmain so far. If these numbers are all good along with better reliability it’s a no brainer. If Canaan had a trade in program to trade in your S9 towards an 841 I’d be all over it. As long as the price is competitive. I’ll wait and see where this goes. I might be selling my S9 for 841’s. If I had the money I’d just smash the S9’s lol.

The one negative is how much markup will the resellers tack on to the cost of each unit.  That's the big question mark right now which could make a difference.  I do like the specs and performance data of the 841 so far.

May I ask a semi-offtopic question, please? Smiley
The community here is so friendly and experienced, therefore I would like to ask for an advice. I do understand the concern about the monopoly of Bitmain in mining HW (and the use of affiliated pools by the majority of their devices). But I'm also curious if there are other reasons to prefer "alternative" (Ebang, Canaan, ...) products?

The "other reasons" to prefer other hardware manufacturers, is not just about the Hardware they make. Bitmain, can make great
hardware, but they are mainly focused on themselves. Their support, of their customers and longevity of hardware is by far lacking.
Bitmain's main offense, and the reason other Manufacturers are in the spotlight, is their lack of concern with Bitcoin itself. A good
hardware Manufacturer, is going to want Bitcoin's future to be long, and prosperous. Bitmain is the poster boy of Anti-Bitcoin.

I hate Bitmain as much as the next guy. With that being said. I’d be cutting myself short by not mining with only S9’s. Especially with $.12 electricity. Also mining with the currently most efficient miner pointed at a pool that supports BTC is the best way to combat Bitmain’s pools. As soon as more efficient miners come out that can put the heat on Bitmain. I’ll sell all my S9’s for them.

There's some 'network maintenance' going on at the NYA node.
(as usual) it says there's no expected outages, only delays, alas it lost network connectivity at 9:11am UTC
Everyone mining on the NYA node will have failed over to their Pool2 - hopefully another kano.is node Smiley
I'll update the post once it's come back to life ...

Edit: came back to life at 9:27 UTC - 16 minutes Sad
Many failed over to another kano.is node Smiley
Everyone on NYA should have failed back by now.

They're incredibly prone to breaking and Ebit's support is terrible. HagssFIN's post should be enough to keep you away from them.
Yes, I saw that post. While I understand the whole story is extremely disappointing, so far it's more of a customs / logistics issue, rather than a vendor support itself. I'm not protecting Ebit in any way. They could (and should have) alerted their customers that RMA shipments may be held at the customs. But I also wonder what would happen IF the parcel gets through the customs and is delivered to Ebit...

Avalon miners tend to be exceptionally reliable and well-built in my experience, and their support's better than Bitmain's. Never had issues with them before, and they use simple RPI controllers that can easily be flashed and bought if they break, and there are ways to bypass the AUC3 adapters they use.
I will certainly get my hands on some Avalons if / when I find a good offer.

This is exactly what my math tells me... Despite all the hate towards Bitmain, the S9 does seem to be the most efficient miner out there at the moment...

Whats dj’s speed? Anyone know
That can be found on the pool stats page.

(You need to log in to see who hashes at what rate, so I'm reticent to post it publicly.)
Forgot i could do this lol
Found it
Gonna keep an eye on this to c how many low hashing users find a block 👍

Look at that folks, everyone can find a block no matter how big/small the hash rate!

There's almost no reason to go for the Ebit miners at all considering most of them are selling for ridiculous prices even used as of right now, and they're just not very good miners in the first place. They're incredibly prone to breaking and Ebit's support is terrible. HagssFIN's post should be enough to keep you away from them.

I agree. I wish I hadn't bought the one eBit I did, and instead bought an Avalon 741 with that money.
