Something I learned about the Avalon controller.

There are two little keyhole shaped holes apparently for mounting the device on the wall.

DON'T use them with metal screws. One of them is positioned just right so it shorts out the power in the controller when the head of the screw presses against the UNPROTECTED circuit board inside the controller.

Just saying.

My first avalon 741 is now up and running and mining on kano pool. I just got it running. Took a bit because my internal network is not set to the default that the Avalon controller uses. I had to hook up a laptop, configure the laptops wired Ethernet port to be on the same segment and then was able to access the web based configuration.

Now I get to be a trained poodle and jump though the hoops needed to order more power supplies from the great underground empire. They want litecoin for payment!!!   ratsa fratsa grrrrr grumble.

I setup a litecoin wallet so I could have a safe place to hold the little buggers after I get a few from coinbase.  Grrrr.

Seems really odd that the great underground empire demands payment in litecoin rather than their beloved, making them billions, bitcoin.

Anyway, will order some more Avalon 741s to get my show more firmly on the road.

Oh pleasant surprise, the avalon controller already had kano.is as the pool config.

It happens occasionally...we're all in the same boat. Patience.  Kiss

It is nice to get payed up front!  Although when I get an email saying that I received some btc automatically makes me think we found another block. Cheesy
Yeah when I processed the last 2 payouts I noticed that the rewards had dropped again, so I put the usual 'might get confirmed' 42,000 sat fee on them.
Thus 483094 got confirmed soon after it matured; but I created 483048 as a zero fee txn, so it almost certainly wont confirm until our next block.

483139, which matures in a few hours, also has the 42,000 sat fee on it, and since we're back into 'not very full' blocks again, I'll keep putting the 42,000 sat fee on them for a while.

Nice!  Thanks Kano! Smiley

Would you guys recommend the Avalons over the S9's? I'm thinking of buying some of the 741's when they release the next batch. Or if I can get in on a bulk buy. I have 2 more S9's coming in and I'm making pretty good money off of them but I' m just worried about the longevity of the S9's. Whats the oldest S9 you guys have?

FWIW, I have one running 24/7 since August '16, 10 more that have been running various lengths of time since January '17, and 19 sitting waiting for transformer installation. So far, I've had one bad board (went bad after ~3 months, unit was replaced), one unglued heat sink on arrival (no issues once glued back on), and one lost in shipping (a nightmare, took over 5 weeks to resolve, but they did eventually send me a replacement).

I started here, then took a while pool-hopping before settling back here permanently (I hope) back in February.

Man I got that email that said my hash was 0/Th and I was like WHAT!

Haha!  When that happens you can look at the status of one of your miners and you will see that the mining is unaffected.  Of course, if you can't log into your miners then there may be something actually going on!

There's not even a blip on my worker shift graph from this Cheesy
Yeah there was a KanoDB restart - alarms went off as usual and I checked it and it was restarting normally due to a lock delay.
(not a bug/crash, but I know why, it's caused by swapping, and I've already been looking at how to deal with it better)
The DB restarting has no effect on mining so I went back to sleep Smiley

Looks like someone has confirmed our block 483094 or Kano put a small fee on it. Anyway, just received a payout!
However it happened, I'm happy!  Grin

COMEONBLOCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!  Wink Cool Cheesy  Shocked Cool

Mempool looks pretty empty. I'm seeing less than 2,000 tx's in the mempool. Maybe that's why e got a payout for block 483094?
I'm just guessing. It's nice to get a payout regardless!  Shocked

Man BTC had a correction today Sad Should of sold at 4950 and repurchased now at 4350!
I'm still seeing 4500+. Maybe you mean it dropped that low.

Yes, the Coinbase still has it for $4550 is what I'm seeing right now.

I own several Bitmain miners (S9, T9, an R4) and also the new Avalons. The T9 is great if you can find them, but just for overall reliability Avalon is the winner in my book.

Do they only accept BTC or can I pay with CC/Paypal? Thanks for responding I know its a little off topic.
Last time I dealt with them it was bank transfer or BTC. No plastic or PayPal. Dunno about right now, though, for sure.

EDIT: Just saw the earlier posts. Yup. And...I won't run anything but 741s now. That's from several years of experience with everything from S2s to S3s to S7s to A6s to A721s to A741s. It's not only the hardware in my view, but the corporate persona you're dealing with. My preference is for Canaan in that respect.
