We live in a society where people have different views about something and these views could be drawn based on different constituent like personal sentiment, religion, ideology and experience. And speaking of gamble there are those that view it as an irresponsible activity to embark on and whoever is into it is tag as irresponsible guy, for some it beyond being irresponsible but a sin something that is evil,  while some others out of an ugly experience of a loved one that got ruined by it due to extreme addiction.

These factors has made a number of gamblers to keep their gambling habit a secret doing all they could not to let friends and family  know they gamble. And it does seem like they ain't proud of what they're doing.

But why continue in what you're not proud of by keeping it secret cause maybe you're worried about what people may say, how their thoughts about your person might change. Or how you might loose ties with someone you hold dear to. And many other reasons that follows.

Those that keep their gambling habit a secret is it that they're not proud of what they are doing?.

The number one reason that make some people hide their gambling habit might be because of what religious society think and the eye in which they watch people. You see, religion especially the Muslim condemn gambling, it's a sin and anyone doing it is doing against the will of Allah and as such, any Muslim gambler found doing it is doing Haram. However, because of the habit, they always flind a way to play but most of the time keep it a secret so that others don't judge their actions in other to have peace of mind and being call out especially in public gatherings.

In addition, I can't speak for the public but I can speak for myself that I keep my gambling private, not because I fear what people would say or some kind of public validation but I just need my privacy, what I play is my responsibility, when u lose I shoulder it and when I win, I rejoice alone except with my pals and there are many of them that don't go into gambling while I do it when I'm free, it's a free world and we get to enjoy what we love to do, it's not a crime to keep things off the public.

Moreover, it's safe to keep gambling on the low so that people don't profile you as a rich person, there are times people might have the believe that you have money on you especially when you win games and show it to the public, they can threaten you, they can rob you and they can even attack you if they are jealous about your progress. I think gambling should be s private things, I have seen it ruin relationships and family, no point of making it public unless you're addicted and need help.

I believe that many people in religious countries continue to gamble despite it being considered a sin. They often have to hide this activity from their family and a few close friends, as they would feel ashamed if anyone were to find out especially their parents.

Those that keep their gambling habit a secret is it that they're not proud of what they are doing?.
I don't believe they're necessarily ashamed or not proud of their actions. Instead it's more likely that they enjoy engaging in gambling but they prefer to keep it hidden from their family members. They are aware that gambling is considered a sin and participating in such activities like that is not considered morally right IMO.
From the point of view of one of the commenters above he made mention of Saudi Arabia as an example of places with strict intolerance for gambling but gambling lovers still maneuver way through the use of VPN to engage in online gambling and you @Aikidoka has buttressed on same point which for me I do understand from it all that there are gamblers that are proud of what they do but the position they find themselves puts them in no choice but keep it all secret for their own sake and those of others. Alright!

Why will I be ashamed to let people know that I am a gambler. If any gamble is keeping his gambling activities secrete then he is not suppose to be a gambler because you are not proud of what you are doing. Sometimes one can chose to be secretive if he is using the money that he is not suppose use for it.

I am a proud gambler and I don't hide it from my family because I haven't offended or hurt anyone with my gambling activities but instead I have won and used the money to assist my family and I told them that it was from gambling. If you gamble responsible and only use the money that you can afford to loss for gambling, nobody will have your time.

We continue doing it because we like it and somehow satisfy the craving for dopamine.
Not everyone is ashamed of it though. To some families, they tend to agree on some things including gambling but I guess the parents know their kids way better than anyone.

For people who are keeping it a secret, it's more like a personal to them. There are people who kept some worse secrets than just their gambling activity but most probably they don't wanna be judged by the people.

When a person is old and mature enough in life, he will come to understand that there are some things you shouldn't feel ashamed of doing as long as they make you happy and put food on the table. What offers you legitimate entertainment and makes you money should be displayed publicly without concern for criticism.

A grown adult who is over the age of 18 who keeps his gambling habit a secret is immature. If they believe and still have the mindset that someone has to conceal their gambling behavior, they shouldn't start engaging in gambling in the first place.

It is better to avoid doing something you are ashamed of than to hide while doing it. That seems silly.

Unfortunately, in the modern world it is very difficult to maintain the necessary level of security on devices. If you are a married man, you know how curious women are and how hard it is to hide something from them. They easily notice any small changes in your mood, all the time trying to read your correspondence and find what you are hiding from them. Therefore, I believe that you need to have a huge talent to hide the habit of gambling from your wife. And in any case, the habit of betting or playing at the casino is spending the family budget and it is very easy for a wife to notice a drawback. And the game apps are easy to see on the phone screen. Therefore, I believe that it is almost impossible to hide the habit of gambling from my wife and loved ones.

It's not that people keep it as a secret, but it's not something that worth bragging Grin
Like hey guys I'm a gambler and I play slots every weekend! Who cares? You should tell everyone about your achievement or business, not about unimportant stuff like gambling.
But sure, if someone asks me what I will do next Saturday, I might have a different answer depending on who asked. In a country where gambling is illegal, telling random people that you gamble is asking for problems.
It's not that I'm happy to say I'm a gambler, we tell who cares to know. We keep secret, discreet ourselves from things that would results to our weakness. You're absolutely right, gambling is one of the uninterested activity, it's never a right choice to publicly tell people you gamble, it's more like telling them indirectly that you're involved in illegal activities especially in countries that doesn't support gambling. We do what we have to do to generate income and extra cash for ourselves, we are free and do what we find pleasures in, not counting on what the public will do or say.

People who hide to gamble are probably those who are under-aged or those who are addicted to gambling without results, they always feel ashamed whenever they are seen because they probably have nothing to show for it or they are left with no good clothes, good house, etc but if you are a successful gambler, you will be proud of your gambling activities.

Personally I don't gamble in an open place and I don't hide my gambling activities because where I come from once you are 18 years and above you have the right to your personal life and I think my gambling life is one of the things I consider personal even though the society think they will feel the pains once any gambler becomes addicted.

It can be beneficial to not keep your gambling habit a complete secret; Reasons are,
(1) Sometimes as a gambler, your chances of winning when you gamble can be higher when you have a community of other strong and experienced gamblers that can help you analyze games properly before placing a bet.
(2) Also, if you keep your keep your gambling habit a secret, when you get depressed from a loss, there will be no one to talk to and that is very dangerous because having someone you can talk to when you are very depressed helps a lot.

Different individuals have their various opinions about gambling activities and just like you state it might be based on religion, an awful experience or their personal ideology and religious people would tell you that it's a sin because it could lead someone to stealing, cheating or other illegal activities that they feel is a crime against their religion and Also let's say for instance a parent lot his/her child due to gambling experiences such person is likely going to condemn the act based of the bad effect it  caused them due to the death of their child.

All thanks to technology that's made it possible for people who are not proud of the act maybe due to the fear of being caught by religious brothers or afraid of losing ties with loved ones to gamble at the comfort of their home with their various devices without being caught or noticed by anyone, the things is that it not like they're not proud of the act but are scared of being condemned by those who discriminate gambling activities and would rather do it secretly.

Unfortunately, not everyone has the same thoughts and ideas. People love to judge what they have not achieved. Especially when it comes to the ambition to make money, most people start to vilify everything because they are jealous of each other. One of these is gambling and betting. Some people don't brag when they lose a lot of money, but when they win a lot you can't shut them up. We are divided in this way. Some people have never been involved in gambling, but when they find out that it is gambling, they start judging it according to religion and sect. Because it can be a pathetic situation for them. Everyone is free to live their own life and make their own decision. No one can judge a person for gambling, that is their choice. One can only make a suggestion, and that suggestion is that it is an addiction, of course.
It doesn't matter what people say about me or about people who gamble. If there is an income from it, we can count it as a job on a regular basis. After all, we know that there are people who like to do their job.

Those that keep their gambling habit a secret is it that they're not proud of what they are doing?.
The fact is neutral depending on who reads it, if the reader is a gambler, then he will say that gambling is fun and gambling is profitable only naive people are against gambling. But if this fact is read by the public. They say that gambling is harmful, gambling is misleading and gambling is haaram only for stupid people who do not understand religion who play in it.

Those who are involved in gambling, it's not that they are not proud of the gambling activities they do. However, apart from wanting his gambling activities to continue and also wanting to mingle with the community, he inevitably has to keep his gambling activities a secret because he is proud of himself in gambling activities in a society that is strongly against gambling, which is stupid. You will only be kicked out of your residence. Instead of this only going to be a conflict between you and the community as well as your family, it's better for you to keep your gambling activities a secret.

So if you want to express yourself about your gambling activities and feel valued when presenting them in public, it's better for you to move to a place that can accept or support gambling activities.
Indeed there are times when we really have to keep our gambling activities a secret, especially if where we live we are strictly against gambling, I am also like that when doing online gambling, I prefer to play alone in my room or play outside with friends because my family really doesn't like gambling .

And it is true that where we live we cannot accept gambling, then don't force them too much to accept that you are a person who is good at gambling because you get big wins. because how good you are at gambling, if you are in a place where you can't accept it then you will be considered a fool "who is proud of the negative"

Because for me gambling is a very personal activity, even though some of the people closest to me do the same thing, namely gambling, the fact is that when we get together, none of them are honest and discuss gambling. Maybe we can hide it from others, but gradually the people closest to us will find out whether it was intentional or not, our confessions could have been spoken.

And today's gambling is different from gambling in the past when we still visited land-based casinos, anyone can know and even meet accidentally. Meanwhile now the access is only through each individual's personal cellphone, it's possible that the person sitting next to while waiting in line is also a gambler.

There is a simple side to it why they chose to keep the activity hidden. They just don't want any argument between their wife and him. Everybody has a secret to keep and just leave it that way since it could spoil more arguments that will lead to something else like breaking a family.

If it couldn't make the family relationship better after the man wins the jackpot, it will still be best to leave the habit a secret after all the gambler is a grown man who knows whats the right thing to do.

The one who lost money on gambling and probably loses further will not tell anyone about it, and this is not becouse of religious connotation in this, there is rather a sense of shame. It’s hard to admit that you lose and still continue to do it, because it already looks like an addiction. The player understands that others will condemn it and therefore it is easier to hide it and thus avoid unnecessary judgments. It would even be difficult to call it a game for fun if the player constantly breaks through for a long distance.

Those that keep their gambling habit a secret is it that they're not proud of what they are doing?.

When we are proud of what we are doing, do we need to tell about it to others? We dont, right?
Keeping something as a secret is not always because they do not proud of what they are doing, not only gambling but also other activities or things.
There must be a reason why people keep their gambling activity or other activities as a secret and we will never know the reason until they reveal it.
I myself do not keep my gambling activity as a secret, most people around me know that I am a gambler since long time ago so there is no need to hide it.
Maybe it is because gambling is not considered as taboo thing in the place where I live, so maybe I'll take different act if I live in different place where gambler is considered as so bad person.

Is it really important to be proud of yourself when you are a gambler? For me, I never hide from people the reality that I am a gambler but I also never tell them voluntarily that I am into constant gambling. For what? I am into gambling because I developed some passion on it and felt entertained when I gamble, and I’ve also seen how potential profits can be luckily won through gambling. But in the end, everything in gambling is just for fun for me, not necessarily to earn a living because I have also my own stable job. So no need to keep it as a secret, as a lot of adventurous people love to gamble at some point.

Those that keep their gambling habit a secret is it that they're not proud of what they are doing?.
As you have rightly pointed out, some behaviors are not illegal or criminal but society has a negative view of them. In my country gambling is not illegal so I can't stop gaming. But I will always keep it secret because of the social stigma that gamblers suffer. Some people see gamers as jobless people that rely on gambling for survival. I know that this perception is wrong but to avoid bullies and unnecessary criticism, my gambling life will always be secret. But if anybody genuinely cares to know why I gamble, I will gladly give my reasons.

Immediately after Joe Biden became president of the US, the White House gave a directive that all staff that have used marijuana should resign or be demoted. Meanwhile, the president's closest confidant is struggling with drug addiction. Society's judgment is not always fair, hence we need to keep some behavior secret.
