I prefer not to share my past gambling habits with my family. only people on this forums know if I gamble a lot. For me, Let this be a habit only I know about, because if they find out, and I lose maybe they'll regret my gambling habit. When I won or lost, I didn't give the money I won to my family. Sometimes I used to gamble again at another time. So every time I win, all the money is not for the family but for my own fun or to lose again to gamble. LOL
But why continue in what you're not proud of by keeping it secret cause maybe you're worried about what people may say, how their thoughts about your person might change. Or how you might loose ties with someone you hold dear to. And many other reasons that follows.

Don't ever think that gamblers are not proud about what they are doing. Its just not all people can accept that one could make you happy and sometimes they tag you a bad people or prone to do something harm to anyone since automatically they discriminate then also tell that you can potentially do illegal things due to gambling activities you are doing.
We live on judgemental world so sometimes there are things what we do should keep a secret so that no one disturbs us and receive nonsense comment from people who's not open minded on other things.
I put myself as an example I live in a society where gamblers are looked down on when they are gambling too much and spending too much money and time gambling, so to avoid the bad impression that could harm my reputation in my social and job I prefer to keep my gambling secret to myself.
We have no control over what people are going to say to us, so its better that they do not know your gambling habit so you have no problem with these people, the little they know about you the better and you can gamble at ease.

Sometimes it's better to keep some things secret... Maybe some are not proud of what they are doing, sometimes because what we are doing is illegal in the place we live or not acceptable by the majority, and sometimes it's just easier to do things in quiet and peace... why somebody needs to know my passions?
But when it comes to life partners there shouldn't be secrets. For sure we keep many things just for us when it comes to friends and family, religion, and government laws, but I am totally open with my wife and I think there is no healthy marriage if both are not fully open to each other.
We don't need to boast about anything, including our habits in gambling. I am gambling and I am not an addict, I use just little amount which can not affect me in any way. The amount that is so small that can not affect me mentally too. Why not telling people that I know? The reason I may not tell some people is the fear that they too can begin to gamble and become addicted. I decided to keep my gambling life not because of what my society will talk about it. Once principle that I have lived with is “if you’re not providing any of my needs, then you don’t get a say in my life or how I live it”.
In my society they are so many things that are not accepted and gambling is part of them but if I should take what they have to say to heart that means I won’t get to do so many things that I enjoy doing.
There are several reasons that could make someone hide an habit of his/her and that include attention. Not everyone tend to fancy attention, they are people that just want to live their lives without anyone knowing anything about it as they feel safer that way.

I think that those who hide their passion for gambling just do not want unnecessary attention from the society. Among gamblers there are many people who can control themselves during the game and have never had serious problems with gambling, but society often considers all gamblers as unreliable people. Of course they are wrong. I think you realize that I do not want to spend my personal time to prove them otherwise. Therefore, it is easier for me to hide from others that I like to gamble. The only important note is that your family should know that you gamble, because they are able to notice changes in a person in time and realize that he needs help.

Personally I am not proud of the gambling that I do because of course I prefer to hide it from friends and people who know me, except my wife because it is important for her to know and help me in limiting my gambling budget, this is done so that I do not trapped in addiction, because when you become an addict it will be difficult to recover.Besides, why do we have to share our winnings on social media and require that many people know that I gamble, it will definitely look bad in their eyes too, so there's no need to publicize it too much because it's better for me to gamble in a hidden way using my cellphone and computer at home, that's more than enough although my close friend is also a gambler I don't want him to know that I gamble.

If you live in a country where gambling is legal, many people can still accept it because it's not taboo and normal to see people are gambling there.
If you live in a country where gambling is illegal, then it's better to keep your gambling habit secret since not many people will accept it and they think you're a bad person.

If we're on the winning side we can be proud of what we do. With gambling what we experience is loss, we expect it to happen in favour of the ganbler and the reality is completely against it. The house always have its edge and for this reason majority of the gambler have loss in their statistics than profit. This makes people to be down and never want this to be known to the outer world.
Next thing is the dear ones seeing us low after losses. During my initial days of gambling my gambling activities were known to my family. Those days I was in winning streak and the same kept my dear ones happy and we used to spend time gambling. Later I started to loss and my dear ones weren't happy and they were able to come out of gambling very easily. I wasn't and till date I continue to gambling and this is a secret from my loved ones.

I do not know. But what I know from my experience and in the end I know, most gamblers keep their activities a secret because most people perceive gambling as a negative thing. And I don't think it does any good for a gambler to tell people you like to gamble, and it doesn't do them any good to know it either.

That's same like how someone need to keep Bitcoin or their wealth as secret as possible.
I don't see how these two variables gambling and bitcoin sink well together even though one might decide keeping both secret in their right. Am keeping my bitcoin life secret because of security reasons not to be caught up in any cyber or physical attack because the idea would be that as a BTC holder am a rich person. But with gambling you can be a gambler and still be broke and fluke, cause it's not a means of income in anyway for those that understand.. There's no financial threat like it would be for a bitcoiner making himself open to public.

My parent did not know I was gambling before, and I did not tell them. My friends knew I was gambling and some are gambling too. I noticed that among my friends, we have different opinions. Some gamble and some do not. But we do not discriminate. Why would a friend discriminate because of gambling. But there are some of my friends that warn we that are gambling that gambling is risky. They can be proud of it, but they may not just want people around them to know. Example is a father that keeps it secret from children and also warning them not to gamble. It's hard to show people a habit of yours where they will 1st think that it is a bad thing. I don't see anything wrong with people gambling if they just do it with their spare money and not expecting some returns. I love gacha games which has a gambling aspect but I always maintain a budget to it and not go overextend to the point that I will have to use the money that is for the monthly expenses.

Well, i keep my gambling activities a secret to some people in my life, not because i am not proud of the fact that i gamble, but because I don't want anybody keeping malice with me , or trying in any way to discourage me from gambling, you know it is written that a prudent man(that is a wise man) forseeth evil and hides himself, he did not hide himself because he lacks the strength to fight, or to confront that evil and defeat it, but he hides himself simply because sometime, avoiding something is better than trying to explain it to someone understanding.
So lets say now, my wife naturally does not like gamblers as she sees them as jobless, lazy and money wasters, imagine i let her know that i gamble, how possibly can i explain this to her understanding?, what exactly am i going to tell her that will make her understand that not every gambler is jobless, lazy and just wasting money, i will rather spare myself that stress of trying to convince her, by keeping my gambling activities a secret to her, than trying to convince in any way.
