And how exactly are they putting 48 of these into a mars when it would cost 9600

Same price then except lancelots are guaranteed in my hands in a couple weeks.

But is the Mars WORTH it? This could be a long con to sell overpriced fpgas then disappear with no coupon or asics. I can buy cheap lancelots right now. I don't want to buy a mars.

Cheap lancelots? the cheapest i have seen are about $240 and they only hash 400Mhz. So you would need at least twelve to match the Mars unit.

12 x 400 Mhz = 4800 Mhz, just shy of 5Ghz
Cost = $2840 USD not including postage and power packs etc.

hmmmm cheeeap

Prototype for both Jupiter & Saturn Asic Miner probably will only be available in August hopefully. Same as the Mars prototype, once everyone have seen how good  the Mars FPGA Miner is working and running and mining from the videos, photos proof and some of us who went for the live open day view the live demo and ask questions and get answers to their satisfaction, only than will likely Payment button be available for the Mars Miner, same goes for the Asic Miner. FPGA Miner and Asic Miner are 2 different entity. Everyone want to have proof of a working model and the only one available in a few more days is the Mars Miner.

This is BS, they are strong arming me to buy

Please show me the picture where they hold a gun to your head and force you to buy from them.

Yeah, that's definitely the risk. I guess it's a little bit safer to buy the overpriced FPGA, but its more cost-effective to buy directly the ASIC, as the FPGA is overpriced even if it entitles you to a $2000 discount.

It's again a matter of trust, and unfortunately we know how this worked out so far. Even Avalon, which has no competition, made their customers wait for MONTHS after the estimated delivery date.

Everybody interested in KNCMINER units needs to factor this risk, as a significant delay is the most likely outcome due to past history.

Sadly it's a gamble just like BFL. It's BFL all over again. They delivered fpgas, got MILLIONS for asics and shipped 3.

But is the Mars WORTH it? This could be a long con to sell overpriced fpgas then disappear with no coupon or asics. I can buy cheap lancelots right now. I don't want to buy a mars.
Agree. How can one tread carefully here? Jupiter openday will be a good step.

The issue is even with Paypal as an option. Payment via Paypal or Credit Card is not protected for that length of time *if they request ASIC payment now.

So it will basically be a complete risk...

those late in the game will do whatever to beat the queue Wink

Exactly. Let me try to explain this:

They never said that by buying Mars you would BEAT the queue. They said that, by buying Mars, you would keep your place in the queue for the ASICs.

Here is the process:

You pre-ordered in early April, so you have queue spot nº1. You have two choices:

a) as soon as they open payments you buy Mars, you pay for Mars and you get a Mars immediately. You don't pay for your Jupiter yet. As soon as they have the ASIC open day, you pay for your Jupiter with a $2,000 discount, and you are still the 1st to receive it.

b) as soon as they open payments you decide to skip Mars and buy Jupiter, you immediately pay for Jupiter and you quietly wait till September. You are still the 1st to receive Jupiter/Saturn, because that's your place in the queue, and you paid for it in the 7 days timeframe they will give after they open the payment process.

If your place in the queue is 5,373... Well, then you can buy as many Mars as you want, but you are not going to take the place of somebody who preorder 2 months before you and paid for its ASIC at the same time you are paying for your FPGA.

They are doing this so people can have two choices:

1) pay for something that they can get immediately (the FPGA) and then waiting to pay for the ASIC until they have proved they have it. Doing this, you maintain your pre-order spot even if you are not paying straight away for the ASIC.

2) decide to trust them and pay directly for an ASIC for which there's still no prototype whatsoever. Obviously these people will keep their place on the queue, too.

So, no way to beat the queue my friends.

Ok so, dependant on your queue positioning you get first refusal to buy mars or an ASIC, but those buying Mars get the option of delayed payment.

That sounds fair, albeit a mash-up of what I was under the impression was happening. I know for a fact Mars buyers remain ahead of the queue though, that was definitely stated.

Let me state that in a simpler way: if you pay within 7 days after they open the order books, you keep your place for the ASICs, not matter what you pay for.

If you pay for Mars, you receive an FPGA immediately and you get delayed payment + a discount on the ASIC.

If you pay for the ASIC, you just keep your place in the queue.

MORAL OF THE STORY: there's no way to beat the queue, unless a lot of the orders before yours do not pay for nothing. The "golden ticket" is for those who registered early in their website. Anyhow, is quite a "fair" golden ticket, because the maximum number of units you can get in the first 500 batch is #3 units.

No, they are opening payments for the FPGA once they've proven the FPGA exists in the openday.

They are opening payments for the ASIC once they've proven the ASIC exists in it's openday.

Also most of the above q's are answered with basic research, but are being frequently asked by those that can't be bothered doing that.

We've just had two pages of the same questions answered and new posts continuing to ask the same questions again.

No. I spoke with Sam last week. You can skip the Mars and pay for the ASICs as soon as they open payments (which was supposed to happen this Monday), and you will maintain your place in the queue.

That can't be right. I mean I believe you, but the entire point in the $3.5k FPGA is to build trust and reward those ordering it with a $2k discount when the ASICs are proven real and the order monies are then requested. I don't see the point in building and reselling Mars beyond a prototype for themselves at all then.

What would be the point in the ASIC open day after taking payment? The point of the open days were to demonstrate proof of concept and build trust prior to requesting payment.

There's no buyer protection that covers goods for that duration of 'pre-ordering'. June-October is 5 months, approx 150 days, and that's if the products are delivered on time before the end of Sept.

That is right, or at least is what Sam told me more than once. You have your place in the queue, and as soon as they open orders you buy whatever you wish to buy - Mars, Jupiter or Saturn, and you keep your place in the queue.

I guess they will publish some clear and fair Terms&Conditions with the preorder that will give customers a little protection.
