Real Sociedad is now seven points ahead of Villareal, that places Sociedad in a close to uncatchable position.
The back to back losses Villareal had against Valladolid and Sevilla certainly didn't help.
But if you look at the last eight matches of both Real Sociedad and Villareal in the league, they've both had five wins, two losses and one draws. Those are very identical stats, so at this rate Sociedad retains the 4th position.

Atletico are playing Cadiz now and the score is 2-0 for now.
It looks like Madrid's position has shifted again now because with Atletico's current victory they clearly have one point higher than Madrid.
This is clearly a real threat if Madrid still wants them to be in second place because indeed with this even the top 4 are safe but 3rd position is not really feasible for them.

Its great achievement for Xavi Hernandez because he can close this season with La Liga trophy after failure in Europe League. Villarreal had a chance to close the points gap with Real Sociedad. And continue to try to move into the top four of the points table. But they can't do it. Villarreal can't win against Valencia. The match was drawn 1-1. Takahara also didn't think Villarreal's performance was good. Valencia was not a strong team. Villarreal's performance against such a team should have been stronger. But Villarreal attacked very little in this match. And I would say this is one of the reasons why Villarreal lost points. A defensive strategy should not be played against a weak team like Valencia.

I thought we were going to see a one-sided match. And Villarreal will win this match. But Villarreal's performance was not good in today's match. After 80 minutes, the match is still tied at 1-1. In the 62nd minute of the Villarreal match, Villarreal took the lead with Nicolas Jackson's goal, but Valencia was able to equalize the match in just 10 minutes. Now Valencia is playing a defensive strategy. Valencia's performance in this match was quite good. They deserve 1 point in this match.

Real Sociedad is not an arbitrary opponent for Real Madrid. They are currently in 4th place in the standings and of course are very ambitious to maintain that position. But the victory over Real Madrid I think was very lucky for them because El Real didn't seem to be playing seriously in that match.
