I don't understand why De Jong is the highest paid player at Barcelona. When it comes to contribution, I haven't seen anything particularly exceptional from him that justifies the huge salary that he is receiving at the club. Given Barcelona's financial struggles, it would be advisable for the club to offer him a revised contract with more reasonable terms. And if he doesn't agree to it, then it will be in the best interest of Barcelona to part ways with him. The club has a lot of young promising talents who could step up and fill his role.
Frankie De Jong has the highest salary because Barcelona recruited him by offering a high salary and bonuses so that he finally wanted to join Barcelona, it is natural for Barcelona to do that because De Jong is a defensive midfielder who controls many areas with his playing style. Barcelona wants to keep him but with a lower salary they have given a new contract with a salary cut clause but the player has not responded regarding the contract because maybe he thinks he wants to continue to be paid a high salary by Barcelona until his contract ends in 2026.
Which is fine, he could play 1.5 seasons and then leave, and he will not be remembered as a good player, but the player who got paid more than what he deserved. Not that players really care about that, look at Eden Hazard, that dude collected salary for many years without playing a day of football and he left, he is a fat rich old dude now, well not that old, he is still younger than me lol, but you got the gist.
So I am expecting De Jong to not care about what others say, he was a sought after player, he was recruited by so many teams and he only accepted Barcelona because he was offered a lot more there. Barcelona got into this debt mess they are in currently because they were buying players for insane amount of money and they were paying high salaries, De Jong came in that time and before the salary cap ban and all that happened to Barcelona, so after that they didn't had the money to pay that much to anyone. Lets hope that they will do better eventually, and De Jong will eventually be not a problem for them.
