Cant really blame them though trying to cash in. When Japan hit the scene next year this lot will be obsolete.

You cannot calculate the real % of efficiency by comparing the nm-shrink-percentage.
It is possible that the difference is not as dramatic as people speculate.
That' a fair point. I don't know why people expect bitmain not to mass produce a good product and moan about difficulty levels, I'm not worried. Everyone's really in it for the money aren't they?

You'll be hardpressed to find someone who's buying the machines for their excellent aesthetics or their golden voice Wink

L3+ exhausts a little less than D3. If D3 is 250 CFM so L3+ would be around 200.

Your issue will be not the heat but power. 8 L3+'s will use around 55 Amps so you will need around 80 Amps of power just to run them (4 20 Amp breakers @ 80%) if you have 120V. This means if you have TV, refrigerator, etc. you will need more than 80 Amps.

I'm in the uk so I get 240v mains voltage. I thinks it works out about 27 amps for the 8 L3+s (26.6666667). i have 100 amp main fuse and have not had any issues yet with internal wiring heating up etc, and had them running for a long time. I know these server cabinets will work, so maybe any suggestions for the right model or if anyone could point me in the direction of the right thread. I did see some information before but failed to bookmark it. Thanks for your help by the way

If you have and easy access to outside, you could just build insulated box with 2 openings from both ends. Put few intake fans on 1 end and few exhaust fans on the other end. There are cheap fans that can move even 3000 CFM (not the inline ones).

You could sound insulate the box with something like Safe 'n Sound. If your landlord comes you could close the ends of the box (to hide the fans) and make it like a big chest or something.
Good idea, although my craftsmanship leaves somewhat to be desired lol. I'm probably being lazy, i guess. Also got some money to burn from big profits on crypto in this last year. I have other projects with my other miners located elsewhere and I'm not confronted with this problem but I can expand further if I can convince others about a tidy setup they can host for me in their homes, or businesses. In general I'm trying to turn the majority of my money into bitcoin through mining, trading, and equipment, ready for boom or bust. A big gamble, I know  Wink

Does anyone know the thermal load on antminer L3+? I need to work out the total thermal load for 8 L3+s. Really appreciated if someone could help. Thanks

Are you asking about exhaust CFM?

Yes, I think so! I'm just a little confused. I'm looking to buy a server cabinet to house these with a ducting kit/ exhaust system and each cabinet has different capacities for max thermal load. So I'm struggling to work out which one to get based on this. I know this is the expensive option, but I need it to look the part for when the landlord comes around to inspect! I'm nearly a complete dummy on this subject as I haven't used these before so any advice would be really helpful
The CFM or Cubic Feet Per Minute is the amount of air displacement or "airflow" each Miner moves through the body. The D3 is 250 CFM give or take 20-30 CFM. The "thermal load" I believe refers to the aggregate level of Heat that your total number of miners creates. I am not sure how you would measure that. You can take each unit's temperature with an infrared thermometer at the body but I don't know how you calculate the total thermal output with combined units.
Yes this is what I'm struggling to get my head around Huh
I have never worried about "thermal load". If you are moving the appropriate CFM away from the units and out of their respective space, you should be fine as long as the Ambient air they are breathing is normal room temperature or cooler ( 72 Degrees F ) or so. The most important issue is venting the exhaust heat away from the units and especially away from their intake fans. Don't worry about "air conditioning the space". I believe this is a snake eating it's tail. You're air conditioning to heat and heating to air condition. These little bastards are very robust if ventilated properly. They eat fresh air and electricity for meals. LOL.

If that all does not help, you got a broken board and need to send it back to warranty (unless you OC it)

And in that case you might not want to wait all too long before sending it back, as Bitmain has a, let's say "laissez faire" speed with RMA's Wink

I have the same issue with my L3+. The miner starts showing some xxxx in aleatory hashboards.. I restart and it works fine again, sometimes the hashrate goes 0.00mhs.. restart and everything fine... now, it lost 1 of the hashboards.. I don't understand because the temperature it's fine..

The first two problems might occur because you do not have a stable amp.  That could be because your outlet is shit, you run on 110V or simply because your PSU is either broken or some cables got loose.

I would try to unplug it and then re-plug everything. That might do the trick. You can also just lay the miner on the side that the cables don't bend

I had the same thing after they ran fine for 2 weeks, on AWP3 PSUs. Contacted Bitmain and they told me to reflash the image. Only thing that happened since was a random reboot of one of the L3's, other than that they seem fine. Have not seen an "x" since, fingers crossed.

Give it a try, worked for me.

Bitmain provided this firmware download link: https://s3.cn-north-1.amazonaws.com.cn/shop-bitmain/download/Antminer-L3%2B-201708251737-384M.tar.gz

Confusingly, exactly the same firmware as reported by my L3 before reflash.
