I'm probably the biggest fan of professional chess on bitcointalk (albeit a mere kibitzer) so I'm watching this thread closely.

Come on, bitcointalk.

OP, are you a GM, IM, ranked on 2700chess, etc?

Thanks for your support! I am a big fan of the bitcoin community.

Yes I am a GM and ranked on that list.  I happen to know that there are at least two others on the list very interested in bitcoin. I may ask one of them what he thinks about the current bitcoin XT debates.  I am following the issue and have some opinions but keeping an open mind.

If white represents bitcointalk community, my next move would be a2 to a3 . There must be some way to make the elephant escape.

3. g3 and 3. d4 are the two proposals right now. I will wait for a consensus
Don't look at me. If I wanted an early d4, I would have done it on move 1. Unless bitbaby agrees to postpone his premature pawn push, we'll need a third vote.

Ok, I remove my d4 move. Don't mind me. Have fun!

I hope you keep participating. Your move would have been just fine! My hope is that as the game continues more players will join and team bitcointalk will have an easier time reaching consensus. Lets proceed with 3. g3. I will respond with 3....Nf6

Your move bitcointalk. You have the white pieces

The current position is updated below

1. Nf3  d5
2. c4   e6
3. g3   Nf6

Your move!

Psst. Bishop to Queen-4.

I have no desire to moderate the discussion of moves from team bitcointalk. However I will make an exception and veto this one as it is not a legal move in the current position.

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.12132767

Please use algebraic notation if possible. It is easier for everyone to understand.

So far I only see three proposals (3. d4 3. g3 and 3. a3) with no community consensus

I said Bishop to Queen-4.  Angry

Sorry but you cannot move either bishop in the current position. Even if your bishops were not blocked by your pawns neither could move to Q4 (d4). I assume you were attempting to use descriptive notation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Descriptive_notation). Algebraic notation is easier for everyone once you get used to it.

Maybe this will help:

@letsplayagame  WOW!!!! Somehow I do believe you are a top player (ok maybe I also want to believe). I've been playing chess myself for roughly 15 years and have been following the FIDE/international chess scene closely the past 10 years  Smiley I must say it's pretty freaking exciting to be able to interact with a world class player on here. I don't suppose you would consider accepting friendly challenges (at some point) on a site like http://en.lichess.org/ ?  Roll Eyes  I love playing chess but I'm not nearly as good as I should be, I lack focus and dedication, I understand playing someone like me might not be a lot of fun for you but still I'll keep my fingers crossed we have a little blitz session at some point  Smiley
In any case welcome to the forum! Really awesome to have you here (whoever you are Wink )

PS. You should consider updating the op with moves that have been played so far, it'll be easier for new people to jump into the game  Smiley

Thank you for your kind words and advice. I updated my OP with the current position.

I do play online on occasion on several sites including the one you mentioned. Most of the time I play under an alias (as do many top players) but I don't think it is really that "anonymous".  Chess is a great game for players of all levels. You are right that is takes time and dedication to improve but it can still be enjoyable for everyone.

beat it:

Nailed it lol....

But i am amazed, why would OP want to hide his identity?

If the community uses a good chess engine to cheat I will very likely lose. However I don't really see the point. There is no secret about chess engines being better than even the best humans in 2015.

In the 1990s this was a more interesting question.

I already answered the question about why I choose to remain anonymous for now.

I never said it was going to happen that way, but if you move d3/4, he could move Bb4 (not sure how likely this would be in a pro match) and force you to exchange pieces (which I actually hate).
You're exchanging an undeveloped piece for a developed one. It's a good trade for White, but Black will never go for it.

I would, because Qa4+ wins it for nothing, though a player ranked amongst the best in the world would never make such a silly mistake.

EDIT: Not enough caffeine. The bishop can be saved, but it still puts Black in a bad position.

I would move a3, perhaps it has been a long while since last time I played chess (also, I never was a good player).
It shows. Why would you do that? g3 prepares to fianchetto kingside and castle, d4 takes charge of the centre and develops the queen's bishop, but what does a3 accomplish?

How many confirmations of move are you expecting?

6, because people can double move and cheat the game?
