I think Libra and XRP will coexist, even though there is a fight inside.  Grin This is the same as the USD which is used as the world currency rate, but EUR still has a high value compared to USD.

If Libra becomes a reality, then it might compete with the XRP ledger as we know it. Of course, Libra will be a stable coin whereas XRP will remain as a speculative cryptocurrency. But I believe that Libra will directly compete with XRP in its technical aspects. It will only be a matter of which cryptocurrency is the most scalable one for the mainstream world. The main advantage XRP has on top of Libra, is the first-mover advantage on the market. It already has obtained many partnerships from banks worldwide. If Libra wants to take down XRP's place, then it would need a lot of effort for sure.

Considering that both cryptos are centralized, they will fit the bill nicely towards transforming the world's economy as we know it. But they cannot destroy Bitcoin or other well-known cryptocurrencies because of their decentralized design. Both Libra and XRP's success will not have any effect on Bitcoin or altcoins whatsoever. But be aware, that Libra's popularity within the mainstream world might help increase Blockchain adoption towards astronomical levels. It's only a matter of time before Libra launches by 2020 (hopefully) in order to rival the existence of XRP. Even if it doesn't overcome XRP, both ledgers could exist alongside each other for years to come.

Nonetheless, time will tell us what will be the fate of these centralized cryptocurrencies within the mainstream world. Just my opinion Smiley

Considering that Facebook's Libra will be an extremely centralized cryptocurrency, it might very well be adopted by financial institutions within the mainstream world. Ripple's XRP also has the same purpose where it could drive mainstream payments in a fast and cheap way, backed by many Banks worldwide. While both Libra and XRP have their similarities (in terms of centralization) they're certainly different by design.

If Libra's launch becomes a success, then XRP's existence may be threatened over the long term. Both cryptocurrencies would battle head-to-head in order to become the top choice of Banks worldwide. Comparing Libra vs XRP, Ripple has all the possibilities of taking the lead because of the many partnerships it has established with Banks worldwide.

Which is why, it makes me wonder whenever Libra will become the currency of the world or XRP? Or will they co-exist in the future? Huh

Libra and XRP focused on payments. I believe that Libra can be used as payment in buying on some stuff on facebook. But, there are some differences with these two coins. XRP, is not a stable coin, which means it can grow so much! But libra is, so Libra is just focusing on being a payment for things to buy unlike XRP, it could be use to buy something if a site accepts XRP coins.

Agree. Both Libra and XRP can be used for many different things in real life. Since Libra is known to become a stablecoin, it can be used in nearly the same way as the USD or any other Fiat currency to date. Mainstream businesses and merchants will be able to use Libra because of its flexibility in this regard. On the other hand, XRP can be used as both a speculative instrument and a payment system for bank transfers. The distributed ledger itself proves to be highly versatile for sending minuscule payments at the lowest costs possible. Banks can leverage the benefits of the XRP ledger in order to provide customers faster and cheaper remittances. Which is why, I believe that instead of replacing XRP or Libra, it's best for both cryptocurrencies to head their separate ways for the foreseeable future.

Nonetheless, Libra might be neck-and-neck towards XRP after launch as they're both centralized payment systems. XRP has first-mover advantage in the market, which might take Libra a lot of effort to be able to gain massive traction within the market. But in the bright side, Libra's success will be Blockchain's gain within the mainstream world. Just my opinion Smiley

If I were investor and have to choose one of the both coins I would go for the Libra. Both coins have a different weight but it can take years to reach the marketcap of the XRP for Libra. Facebook team may use their power as a one of the biggest social media platforms but market competitors will not let the Libra to bypass their level.

Between the both of them I’d say that Facebook Libra will likely take the lead, though they might both coexist. Facebook is big and I believe they have more connections than Ripple will ever do because the company has been around for a very long time and is well established. So, the fight between the both of them is only going to favor Facebook and when it comes to usage, I believe that fb Libra will also have more usage and adoption than Ripple because, this is one of the biggest platform that we are talking about here, a platform that has been around for years.

So, it’s definitely going to take the lead. It hasn’t been released yet but I already seen a list of companies that plans to adopt it as soon as it’s released. I even saw eBay on the list of the companies that are going to be using Libra when it gets released. By the time you know what’s happening, Libra has already taken everything to itself.

I've seen Facebook's Libra partnerships, and I have to say that there are many mainstream companies supporting it. In contrast, XRP only has Bank partnerships (as far as I know) but it lacks a real use case for the mainstream world. As Libra will be a stablecoin pegged to the value of $1 USD, it'll have greater use cases than XRP upon launch. People might quickly adopt Libra since they're already used to Facebook's social network platform. Despite some differences between both cryptocurrencies, there's a possibility that Libra might prevail in the long run.

Still though, the success of each cryptocurrency will largely depend on how much they're adopted within the mainstream world. So far, XRP has first-mover advantage with a lot of people using it. Libra hasn't even launched yet, which means that it'll take some time before it'll obtain the necessary user base to become as comparable as XRP. Whatever the case may be, it's becoming evident that Blockchain technology will take the world by storm. Our current monetary system will become improved in every way.

Nonetheless, it'll be interesting to know how everything unfolds upon Libra's launch by 2020. If it becomes a success, then we'll know if it'll co-exist with XRP or completely replace it over time. Just my opinion Smiley

I don't see Libra to disturb xrp in any way just like other blockchain coin are doing their thing even though btc was first and now we have over 2000 in market and many are still coming , so I see no road block for any coin in competition with new ones , as every one will do their thing separate way to achieve their aim.

Isn't Libra more of a ecosystem while XRP is for settlement?
XRP will be outclassed anyway as it can't survive on settlement alone.
Come on, both coins can exist quietly, huge investors are spinning around there who simply earn money on these coins, so I don’t think that these two coins will have a bad outcome

They can co-exist yes as they don't serve the same purpose, but XRP will be outclassed by other alternatives(not Libra).

Exactly my thought. The two currencies can co-exist since they ain't having same functions and purposes.

With the evolution of lightning-network kind of third party integration, I guess centralized cryptos cannot enjoy and cannot attract adopters/investors anymore.

Maybe. But, it's said that some altcoins will still exist even after the success of Bitcoin's Lightning Network. After all, XRP being a centralized cryptocurrency, has performed 10x better than most altcoins without the need of the Lightning Network. Transactions are dirt cheap, and fees are ridiculously low thanks to the consensus algorithm used by XRP. Of course, both Libra and XRP will have their distinct purposes within the mainstream world. One will be used as a stablecoin, greatly mimicking the US Dollar, while the other will be used as a means to facilitate payments between Banks worldwide.

Whenever Libra launches by 2020 or not, it's yet to be seen. But if it becomes a reality, it would need to face some stiff competition especially from centralized cryptocurrencies and traditional payment processors. Given that XRP has a lot of Bank partnerships, and an already established user-base, it'll be hard to outpace it. Despite this, I believe that both cryptocurrencies will head their separate ways as they'll be used for unique purposes in life.

Nonetheless, we can only compare Libra vs XRP directly once Facebook's digital currency becomes a reality. Only then, we can measure TPS and the level of user adoption among both cryptocurrencies, in order to determine which is best from the other. Even so, Libra will be completely different from XRP because it'll look more like a real US Dollar (USD) instead of a cryptocurrency. Just my thoughts Grin

I think I would have to agree with you on this, I haven't been a fan of xrp right from it is onset and I will never be a fan as long as I know that the project is not decentralized but centralized, I think libra has more chance of survival because of the backing it has, we all know that Facebook is a big company and mark has a huge influence in the world at large, unlike ripple that struggle so much in other to gain traction in the crypto sphere. Libra coin is no treat to bitcoin in anyway because they are going to coexist.

as both Libra and XRP are centralized they'll be able to reach massive TPS far beyond reach of decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Okay so there should be really a choice here right? Grin

I'd pick XRP over Libra.
XRP dont have an application like facebook which could also trace your relatives if something goes wrong.

I dont want that.
My problem should stay with me and I dont want them bothering amyone who is close to me.

I think that is one of their difference and also of course trust.
In crypto world, XRP dominates while the other will use his social media company to get what he wants.

Same. Personally, I wouldn't prefer Libra over XRP, because Facebook is well-known to invade people's privacy. While both cryptocurrencies are centralized, XRP has at least greater respect for users' privacy than Facebook itself. In terms of dominance within the financial sector, XRP is in the lead by a long shot. There are many Banks which are partnered with Ripple, aiming to improve our economy for the better. While XRP is volatile (unlike Libra), it has a greater advantage than Libra because of its first-mover advantage. In case Libra never launches, we'll still have XRP where Ripple can decide to issue a stablecoin of its own if it desires anytime.

Despite these facts, neither XRP nor Libra will be able to overcome Bitcoin anytime soon. Their level of centralization greatly defeats the true purpose of Blockchain technology. Still though, both Libra and XRP would do great in the mainstream world as they transform our current monetary system. For both of these cryptocurrencies to reach their potential, they would need to have the "green light" from most governments worldwide. So far, Libra has been having a hard time keeping up with regulations while XRP is already regulatory-compliant (as far as I know). Which is why, the odds of Libra becoming a reality seem to be smaller each day.

Nonetheless, as both Libra and XRP are centralized they'll be able to reach massive TPS far beyond reach of decentralized cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. This would allow them to be massively adopted by people in the mainstream world, as fees remain low and transaction speeds remain relatively fast on the network. But Libra will be used more like the USD, while XRP would be used more as a speculative asset in the long run. Just my opinion Smiley

So ripple found a real competitor for itself, but so much has recently appeared a lot of information about the fact that the Libra will not be launched, the Ripple will still emerge victorious from this battle.  Although it seems to me that it is the technology itself that is most interested in some companies, and not the XRP  coin itself.

Gosh, how can we know anything until we tried it? Ripple is used mostly by banks. Libra token is more a social project. They have different aims. I can guess that by its popularity, Libra can become a leader in a year even. By the market capitalization, Ripple will be up - too many rich organizations cooperate with Ripple and invest their money in it.

No one is certain when we do talk about the future but these possible stable coins would still exist on future years to come on high chances.

Libra isn't launched yet but this would tie out with centralized XRP as well in the entire marketshare and I wont really be surprised with that.

Maybe LIBRA will excel, because this coin is controlled by Facebook and several other large companies that are members of the Libra Association. The Libra Association or Libra Association is an independent, non-profit, 28-member company. The association is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and will oversee the big decisions regarding Libra digital coins.
Whereas Ripple is a cryptocurrency that cannot be regulated by any institution (organization), government, or even its creator.
Has advantages over other Crypto coins, namely cheaper payments, and faster payment.
Then we just wait for what will happen later, if the two coins are already both running.

Not only XRP but also many other altcoins. Libra will not be as is is planed right now, but will evolve way wider. XRP and other coins will simply not be able to compete with Facebook marketing and reputation.

Libra vs XRP, maybe the more appropriate libra and the best friend xrp. All is centralized coins, not cryptocurrency. For me, i will stay away from these 2 coins. People still trust both but if they learn more about crypto he will realize, this is shitcoins
I think those two coins will be good going forward. we know that XRP currently has a low price. that is because there has been no price recovery from altcoin. however, when compared to libra, I think people will choose libra. of course because libra is a stable coin, and will most likely be recognized by almost all facebook users. besides, there are many advantages when libra has been launched later.

If Libra Coin becomes a launch, I think XRP will have difficulty competing with Libra Coin. With the support of the biggest social media in the world, namely Facebook and also platforms like WhatsApp or Instagram, Libra Coin has the potential to become big. In addition, Libra coins have partnerships with Master Card and Visa so Libra coin holders can shop at merchants more easily
