Our batch 1 chips, waiting 10 weeks from purchase date, should have arrived July 10th.... 3 weeks late... and continues...   Huh Huh

ROI on these is slowly going swirly down the drain. This is exceptionally sad considering all of the hard work that steamboat, bkk, and the rest of the community have put in. Makes no sense that for $7,000 - $8,000 per order you get zero communication from Avalon -- Yifu is slowly destroying his credibility too.

Asicminer != avalon.

Are they also waiting until all of the batch 3 avalons ship, to be fair to their own customers.

Annoying but understandable.

Thing is, Miners batch 3 by avalon, is a big pain in the ass for them. Miners for sure takes longer to make than shipping tens of thousands of chips (and imagine having direct consumer support for a miner, instead of having one client, purchasing 10.000 chips and supporting of that instead). I am sure this is the last batch of miners they will ever ship (aside from the very clever Blockerupter USB that will never generate any profit to anyone but asicminer who are avalon or correct me if im wrong here).
That being said, i dont think they are prioritising one or the others. Factories making chips, still produce chips, and factories making boards and cases, are still doing that aswell.
It is however odd, that it takes them so long to finalize the batch 3 avalon miners..
To clarify, i dont think staff busy making miners, would be occupied in making chips and packing them in a batch of 10.000 or vice versa.

... but then again the majority of the asic companies have acted like complete morons.

I wish this weren't the case, but it is so true.

So they ship one of the chip orders and then tell everyone they're going to hold off on the rest? That sounds pretty stupid, but then again the majority of the asic companies have acted like complete morons.
Where did Avalon say they were "going to hold off on the rest". The last word I have seen from Avalon on July 11 said the chips would be delivered "in order which way they were purchased ".
Hopefully buyers start getting tracking info this week.

Stop using branwallets
I'm hoping he's just sending them with the same offset to everyone in order to be fair and there's no unintentional delays.  That would put us about 1 week away.  I'm hoping...

Yifu has not been seen online in over 2 weeks, no orders have been seen after Zefir's, I wonder if steamboat has received any correspondence from Avalon in the past two weeks?  It would be awesome if we all wake up tomorrow and steamboat announces that chips have arrived, but yea.. thats wishful thinking at this point.  If we get our asics by mid Aug, it'll be a miracle.

As far as I know, only one or two of the group orders have shipped so far. Yet Avalon would have certainly had the Fab house produce far more than 20000 chip in an order. Therefore we can be pretty sure they have a good supply of chips.

The thought has occurred to me that Avalon is concerned about the effects of dumping too much hash power on the network at one time. Perhaps it's their intention to deliberately stagger out the fulfillment of orders over a period of time.

Of course I REALLY hope that won't be the case, and that the chips ship very soon. Our ROI depends on it, obviously. Yet unfortunately there are any number of reasons Avalon could decide to delay shipments.

Sigh, here's to hoping Avalon doesn't screw us with our chip orders. The ROI of these unit is lowering at an alarming rate. Batch#4's 9-10wks is up in mid August and Batch#1's late by a few weeks already. As it stands with difficulty rising as it is, 1 week of lost mining in August is the equivalent of mining lost for the entire month of November. Ouch.

I feel ya. I calculated profit (after including what I spent on chips+assembly for 16 boards of which is ~$5,000 ive spent), and profit was to be around $3800 total, now as days pass my projected profit is just dying. At this point I'm just hoping I can break even and make my $5,000 back. I would be fine with making less than breaking even as well (like $4,000) because I would be okay with knowing that I spent ~$1,000 to jump into this mining venture world and look at it as an experience, cause hell ive spent $1000+ on vacations that I honestly think i would regret more than this kind of excitement (plus I get to keep the boards! AND there are other sha-256 coins to be mined that are young with low difficulties as well).

This ^

Here is the profit calculator I put together a while back for a K16. Assumes the board costs ~$275, each chip is overclocked to 350MHash, draws 45W at overclock range, electricity costs $0.12 & BTC is $100.

Keep in mind the current network speed is 315 THash/sec

Basically if the network goes up another 10x before you get your K16, then it will take ~1.5 years to payback. If the network goes up 100x then it does not cover electricity costs. Come on Avalon, ship those chips!!

Network    BTC/day   $/day    profit/day   payback (months)
Thash/sec
 200      0.1008    $10.08    $9.95    0.92
 400      0.0504    $5.04     $4.91    1.87
 600      0.0336    $3.36     $3.23    2.84
 800      0.0252    $2.52     $2.39    3.83
 1,000    0.0202    $2.02     $1.89    4.86
 2,000    0.0101    $1.01     $0.88    10.44
 4,000    0.0050    $0.50     $0.37    24.48
 6,000    0.0034    $0.34     $0.21    44.41
 8,000    0.0025    $0.25     $0.12    74.89
 10,000   0.0020    $0.20     $0.07    127.31
 20,000   0.0010    $0.10     $(0.03)
 40,000   0.0005    $0.05     $(0.08)
 60,000   0.0003    $0.03     $(0.10)
 80,000   0.0003    $0.03     $(0.10)
 100,000   0.0002    $0.02     $(0.11)

I just ordered one of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816132035

It looks like it would be the perfect size to secure two K16's, when combined with jdape's 3.5" holders. It even comes with a fan mount to keep air flowing across the heat sinks. Seems like a neat quick-and-dirty solution for folks like me who just have one or two K16 boards and don't want to keep them lying around in the open.

Any thoughts?

Does anyone know for sure the height of the board + standoffs + heatsink?  I have a case with 6x3.5" internal bays, wondering how many K16's I'll be able to fit there with the fans on the side.

It's the same things that are in the pc case I just got for the same purpose, so I hope they work out real well  Grin

Case work update:
- Power distribution and control PCB expected to be completed by early next week. Will support both Raspberry Pi or Beaglebone Black.
- Mechanical design is essentially complete, just need to complete part drawings and fire off to Steamboat

Still no price estimate, as this will depend on the quantity of parts ordered.

Changes since last design:
- 15 K16s per enclosure necessitated by a space added for an ATX PSU
- Ethernet connector added which will allow direct connection to the Raspberry Pi or Beaglebone Black for standalone operation
- Power distribution and control PCB will have both Molex and terminal strip connections for power

Case design could easily be adapted to support other PCBs (i.e. Bitburners)

Can you give us a rough price range so we'll know what we're looking at? Looks really good man!
