avalon chips are out of order...so does the order still apply?

They have always been "out of stock". The 10 week lead time means they are being manufactured before Avalon ships them out. The order still applies

True, they have always been "out of stock" since there IS a lead time. However, as far as I can recall, there used to be a "Buy" button on that page that allowed you to "pre-order". chips. That isn't there any longer.

If you would travel 1 page back in this thread, you will find this...

Sooo I guess this means those of us in Batch 6 won't be getting them?

Found an explanation:

Avalon shop has some maintenance or so.

"We do however need to bring the site down within the next few hours to upgrade for trade-in orders. So if you are running into problems ordering chips and/or viewing orders please do not panic, we expect this update to finish by later tonight ( EST time. )"

Steamboat;
I am planning to use your hosting service. Which assembly and testing option is appropriate for boards going to hosting? "Assembly only" or "Full assembly" - i'm a bit confused about the difference.

The 715 remaining that you see in the subject line is for the first 5000 chips for batch 6. SB usually orders the batch once half of the 10000 batch has been sold. So the actual number of chips remaining for sale in batch 6 is around 5715 (less any that have been sold that haven't been accounted for by SB in the subject line), but the batch should be ordered once another 715 are sold.

Thank you for the explanation. That lines up with the current balance nicely.

steamboat, i see that the latest batch is almost full. however, looking at your address https://blockchain.info/address/1JFYtJKcfqXPKijyo3DceT5en5RnswpAwC tells that this address did not receive all that payment. can you explain this?

in case i join your group buy, is there a refunding possibility before the batch was ordered from avalon?

Stop using branwallets
Maybe I'm too far ahead, but does anybody know how to get these units working once we get them? I mean, I have CGminer running and all, but I don't really know how to apply BKKCoins firmware for the Klondike project to CGminer under Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS. Is there some how-to available somewhere?

I believe the firmware should be for the PIC, not for cgminer.  The cgminer developer will have to write the software to interface with the K16.

(The PIC is the microcontroller onboard the K16 that interfaces the avalon chips with cgminer)

Since steamboat has a "testing" option, i'm sure the information to get these products working will be readily available once the units start shipping.

My experience from buying other custom asic products leads me to believe this forum will always have all info readily available.

The ability to overclock would be great if the chips allow for it. Might be worth waiting a short period to redesign to accommodate that. Just my 2 satoshis. Also, what happens if we ordered a few extra chips to account for faulty ones but don't need them? I assume they will ship out with the finished boards but then wtf do we do with them? Anyone building klondike x1s?

Hi steamboat,
I have a few questions in addition to the questions already asked by other members in the last couple of days.

Do we have a final K16 design we will use? My understanding is that the current design will not be able to accommodate overclocking that is possible on Avalon chips and that BkkCoins will be changing the K16 board design. Some of the options are to change them to 14 or 20 chips per board which would change the board size. How would this impact the current process and pricing?

I feel a bit uneasy paying for the board assembly where the final design hasn't been bedded in yet.

How will the faulty chips be handled? Will the faulty chips be spread out over the whole batch as a percentage, or will it be luck of a draw where some boards might not have an issue and some may have multiple faulty chips?

What will happen to smaller orders that have not taken into consideration that some chips will be delivered faulty? I guess for bigger orders 1 K16 board could be sacrificed to cover faulty chips on other boards, but what happens to smaller, i.e. single K16 orders that have only 16 chips ordered? Would they go to the back of the queue until more chips are ordered or maybe get a refund?

I would also like more details on the full assembly option and what is included for multiple boards when stacking them? Like USB cables. Also, how do we power fans?

BTW, thank you for your time and effort organising this.

Cheers

I'm not buying anything until I have a reply on this as well. I asked a similar question a few days ago.

Have u thought about having them hosted?

I have, but decided I want to host them myself.

Oh sweet mother of buddha - please don't change the design at this point …

The fact is that the design has not been finalised and there's is no working prototype yet.

And potentially a redesign would be needed to allow us to use our miners to the full potential.

BTW, I have 336 chips ordered in this group buy for 20 boards and 5% overhead to cover faulty chips.

Think. Positive. Thoughts.
I also want to know about the 14-chip plan... I have 50 chips, if I can overclock only with fewer chips, I'd want 4x12-chip boards instead of 3x16-chip boards.
