What is the difference between fully assembled unit and just PCB with Assembly? There's a 35 dollar price difference between the two and I don't quite understand what they mean.

hello, how much will it be just for the DIY kit without assembly?

About $35 for K16-board & parts only-no assembly or ASIC chips. Not sure if a heatsink is included either.

The design is not finalized yet,so it may be more, but not much, maybe a few bucks.

A really good deal,if you ask me  Grin

Are these shipping now?

Not yet, no. Would estimate late Sept, Oct.-ish... we hope...

The chips are slated to arrive early to mid August. The assembled units are scheduled to be shipped 3 business days later.

That is SERIOUSLY exciting!! Smiley

BTW, I don't think I specified when I ordered if I want assembly or not (I do). Was I supposed to have already done that, or are you planning to ask everyone at some point?

Thanks again for all the work on this!

Is it better to pay the 1.376 BTC and the 133.5 assembly now?
To my knowledge, steamboat is only accepting payment for chips now. You won't be able to pay for assembly until he has the chips.

I confirm the receipt of the documents below. Please note that I am not a professional nor trained in verifying documents given, so I cannot gurantee that they're 100% authentic or came from the original owner.

1. Scan of steamboat's driving license
2. Scan of steamboat's mail proving his residence
3. Photo of him with his ID and a sign (with my forum profile)
4. Scan of Federal EIN
5. Articles of incorporation

Thanks John, and thanks to steamboat for providing the docs to John.

Steamboat has been the model of good practices for group-buys / asic assembly services: great communication, willing to escrow identity with John, has not take preorders for the assembly costs, preorders the chips once half the funds are raised, has committed samples to BKK for klondike and will be paying per board royalties, etc.

Now we just need to get Avalon to provide the samples and ship the chips (I hear an update is coming this week on that) so steamboat can startup his process of getting completed miners out the door.

SB: do you care to give an estimate on when you will be launching the web site?

steamboat, if we ordered before assembly was available, can we add that onto our order now? (I have some chips in batch 3 and am interested in adding kit+assembly)

Fully Assembled Unit:
The fully assembled unit, including all necessary hardware, is $133.5, to be paid in BTC.

Does this price reflect per 16 chip unit?  Or per any amount of chipped unit?

You have to have your own chips or have participated in one of the group buys on this thread. That price is only for assembly with YOUR chips.

I understand you have to buy the chips now and pay for shipping and assembly later.

My question is do I pay $133.5 for each 16 board chip?  I.E. If I buy 64 chips and want them all assembled will it cost me $133.5 X 4?

Thanks

If I understand correctly then Yes.

That $133.50 is the cost of parts(except the ASICs) and assembly of a single K16. You buy the chips now. Once all the orders are in, Steamboat will email those that need to pay for additional services(shipping, assembly, testing, hosting)

You have answered YES to the OP's question here when in fact I think you should have answered NO.  The OP is asking if all they have to pay, in total, is $133.5 for each 16-chip board. Whilst you are correct in saying that $133.50 is the cost of parts except the ASIC's, and your intended answer is fair, this is still rather confusing to the OP.  The answer is that it will cost 1.376 BTC for 16 chips PLUS AN ADDITIONAL $133.50 for the assembly.

So buy chips now then pay for assembly later

No he understood me correctly, perhaps could have worded it better but i got the point.  See bolded above.

To summarize.  Not including the BTC you must purchase for the chips.  You also have to pay $133.50 x (64/16) assembly.  I.E. each assembled 16 board will cost you $133.50.

Thanks everyone for clearing it all up.

Board assembly sourcing is taking the majority of the time. This is not something that can be rushed. Due diligence must be performed in order to ensure quality, price, and timeline standards will be met. The assembler must have a fully automated assembly line with the capacity to produce the full run quickly, test the boards to ensure functionality, and offer a warranty on workmanship. I have received quotes ranging from $75 to $290 per board. Choosing the cheapest option is a possibility, but there will be tradeoffs in doing so.

my 2¢ - I've had good experience w US based Advanced Circuits (4pcb.com).  I've only done small boards though.

Planning on pitching in for a few dozen chips, once I have the funds.

Any quotes on this?  Just realized they are in my home state.

Since everyone else seems to be doing it even though I'm pretty sure it's not required, here's some info from the buy order I'm placing as we speak.

Chip amount: 64 (I'm an idiot) 48
Payment amount: 4.128
Assembly type: Assembly and DIY kit
