Can you put up a counter somewhere of how many chips are still available

1. Can orders be split and/or transferred?

2. Can orders be added on to, assuming chips are still available?

1. Orders may be split/transferred until it is abused, at which time I will make it prohibitively expensive to do so. I am not an exchange, and I do not want to handle constant reselling.
2. Orders may be added on to. I will have to work on a system for fair distribution though. I do not want people ordering 10 chips as a placeholder and sniping 1000 at the end expecting a front row shipping time.

Edit on item 1: If this option is abused I will put a cap on the number of times orders may be split/transferred. Something similar to the 2x shipping address cap sounds fair.

What state in the US are these coming from?

thanks!

They will be shipping from Florida. If when we get closer to delivery we have an assembly house we want to ship to, you have the option to change your shipping  address to one of your choosing. The default address is the one provided in the email when you purchase the chips.

Looking into it, the actual address that all the avalon asic chip BTC goes to has "only" about 660,000 chips or 187 THash/second

of course as they keep taking orders this will go up, but the rate of orders have been slowing down.

apologize for the psuedo-derail

Quite alright. People should question whether or not this is a smart investment instead of dumping money blindly. I appreciate you taking the time to do the research.

Interesting, that's 452 orders between them right there... There might be a lot of these chips in the wild, i don't think there's anything besides the 10k chips you can buy on their website that would count as an order number either?

If every single one of those is 10k chips.  That is 1274.64 Terahash/second

Something else I just thought of. I was given an order number before sending payment, with an 8 hour window to do so. It is possible some of these orders were never funded, and the order number not reused. I do believe 1.27 PH/s is possible, but the only numbers I've seen point to ~600TH/s from Avalon.

Interested. Which open source design were you looking at? I like the Klondike project.

Currently the Klondike project is in the lead in my book, though I've been following all of them closely. A partner of mine has agreed to lend me his EE's once Avalon releases their specs to see how viable a clone would be. I like the idea of crowdsourcing an open source project to improve on the existing design as long as it can be finished before chip delivery, which I believe is possible. If worst comes to worst I will buy a hot air reflow station and solder the chips myself using the DIY design. This may not be agreeable to some, so understand the risk you're taking if a solution cannot be found.

Can I ask when your batch #10177 order was placed?

Also how you plan to divy up the import tax/customs/etc (the estimated $404.82) - proportional to # of chips, or averaged equally across everyone, etc?

I'm interested

I placed the order today.
Based on chips ordered. I'll edit the OP to make this more understandable.

Original thread post:

This thread is for those interested in purchasing Avalon ASIC chips. I have purchased a batch (#10177), and am offering chips for purchase. The format will be similar to the other group buy threads, and will be structured as follows:

Pricing:
Pricing is BTC0.086/chip. This includes a 9.5% fee for batch pre-purchase, shipping from Avalon, and administrative costs.

Any USD fees incurred from receipt of the order from Avalon will be calculated upon arrival and distributed evenly based on the amount of chips purchased per person, payable in BTC prior to shipping to final destination. These include but are not limited to import tax, customs duties, and merchandise processing fees associated with receipt of shipment from Avalon. Depending on the HS code Avalon uses in shipping, the estimated total is $404.82.

Shipping:
Avalon has yet to release confirmation dates for any batches, including ours. They have stated 9-10 weeks from purchase, and that is all.

Batch order dates are as follows:
Batch 1: Order #10177, Purchase date May 1,2013

Batch 3: Order #10325, Purchase date May 22,2013
Batch 4: Order #10425, Purchase date May 28,2013

Unit shipping will be performed on a first in, first out basis, assuming all additional fees and correct information have been remitted. Packages will be boxed to ensure the contents are protected in transit.
All packages will be shipped via USPS flat rate from Florida with tracking and signature required.

FAQ:
If any emails are received regarding questions outlined in this FAQ, you will be redirected to this FAQ.

What is a TX ID?
A transaction ID is a number that is generated every time coins are moved from one address to another. In order to find the TX ID of your purchase you can right click and select “show transaction details” within the bitcoin-qt software, or go to blockchain.info and enter your payment address.

How do I sign a message? In order to sign a verification message, you must have control of your private keys. Currently the only way I know how to do this is through the use of the bitcoin-qt software. Blockchain.info lists this as a feature but you will have to research how to use it on their site.
With bitcoin-qt: click File, Sign Message. Input your sending address and message, and then click sign. The sending address, message, and signature must be included to verify the message.

Do you accept reservations?
Chip purchases are on a first come, first serve basis.

How do I pay for shipping?
Final fees, including shipping, will be calculated once the batch has arrived from Avalon, and will be denominated in BTC

How do I pay for chips?
See the purchasing section of this post.

Can you ship internationally?
Yes, see the shipping section of this post.

How much are customs fees?
Current estimates are $404.82. This number is an estimate and subject to change.

Why aren't you using escrow?
I have already purchased the chips. As such, any escrow of coins is a moot point as it only protects against misuse of the coins. The organizer can still walk with the chips once they receive them, which the escrow holder is not responsible for. This is a risk assumed with any group buy. If you do not trust my reputation, there are others organizing batch purchases. I suggest you research carefully who you send your coins to.

What do I do with chips?
I am in the process of speaking with US based manufacturers to build and assemble miners based off open source designs. Pricing will be available closer to the ship date, and will depend on the amount of chips/boards built. I will keep this thread updated with developments as they occur. This is by no means finalized. While likely a solution will be developed prior to chip delivery, and I am making every effort to do so, I do not guarantee anything.

Can orders be split and/or transferred?
I am not responsible for any splits or transfers negotiated after purchase of the chips, nor will I facilitate any trades. If you decide to sell your chips, you must come to an agreement apart from the group buy, and send me a shipping address change order signed with the address used in purchasing the chips.

Are you working with anyone to develop a PCB to use the chips?
Yes, I am funding a developer to speed up development, and there are other solutions currently in the design phase. This does not mean I guarantee they will be finished by chip delivery, or they will work.

Will you purchase another batch if you run out of chips?
Yes. If this batch sells out and there is enough interest in a second, I will purchase another batch.

Can I add to my order?
Assuming chips are still available, you may add up to 100% of your initial purchase without losing your place in the shipping cue.

Do we get discounted shipping if we all ship to a dev?
Yes. In the event multiple people ship to a single dev, I will calculate the total shipping cost and divide it evenly based on chip amount.

Can I pay with (Insert anything other than BTC here)
BTC is the only acceptable form of payment.

Can you guarantee Avalon ships the chips on time and undamaged?
I cannot guarantee something outside of my control will not happen.

What happens if I don’t have enough chips for a full board?
If you place an order for chips and the chip design changes, I will buy/sell enough chips to round out your order to the next full number of boards up or down.

Update: 5/25/2013
Batch 3 officially has concluded. Thank you to everyone who purchased chips. Batch 4 has begun, and similar to the first three batches, will be ordered once half the chips have been purchased.
The batch 4 address is 14soUsHdamDEX9uS2Hbsne6sWASe9vzfBh

Though Avalon has stated each chip will be tested prior to shipping, there are concerns regarding chip failure rates from batch purchases. The following solution will be adopted in the event faulty chips are discovered.
For future orders:
All customer orders after the timestamp of this post will be responsible for purchasing any additional chips required to ensure the completion of the requested number of assembled units. The amount of additional chips required is based solely on the discretion of the purchaser, and their personal anticipated failure rate of the Avalon chips. Some members of the community have suggested between one and five percent as an acceptable range to mitigate the risk of receiving a faulty chip.

Each purchase is processed in a First In, First Out (FIFO) queue. This means those that purchased chips earlier in each batch will have their order processed and shipped before those that ordered later. Chip failures will be processed similarly. In the event a faulty chip is discovered during testing, the faulty chip will be “assigned” to the customer whose order is being processed at that time, who will be responsible for the replacement or acceptance of the faulty chip. This addresses the random nature of faulty chip discovery, and ensures an even distribution of risk.

In the event the customer has not purchased, or purchased an inadequate amount of, replacement chips, additional chips will be available for a fee of BTC0.0939. The additional cost for replacement chips represents the limited number available at the time of assembly.
Additionally, in the event a single-chip solution has not been offered by the time the order is processed, any chips remaining after assembly and testing may either be shipped with the finished units, or refunded the purchasing price.

For purchased orders prior to today.
The above applies to all orders previously purchased, with the following exceptions.
Customers which have already made a purchase will have the option to purchase additional chips for the original price of BTC0.086, so long as there are chips available, and any chips purchased and not used may be refunded the purchase price or shipped along with the completed units.
In the event the reserve is depleted, customers with an incomplete amount of chips may opt to be refunded BTC0.0939 for the remainder.

In an effort to ensure there are enough reserve chips, and they are distributed evenly, the board add-on has had the following change.
Customers wishing to purchase additional chips to round their order up to the next full board must have at least 50% of the chips required.

Finally, 100 chips have been set aside in each purchase from both the reserves, and my personal purchase, to be used as equilibrium chips. In the event a customer experiences a disproportionate amount of faulty chips in comparison to the rest of the group, these chips will be used as replacements at no additional charge. Any requests for these chips to be used for your order will almost certainly ensure you do not receive them

Update: 5/23/2013
As most of you are aware, I have been working with board developers, PCB manufacturers, and Assembly houses to offer a complete mining solution for those that purchase chips. The following information is tentative pending working prototypes. Prices should be reduced and finalized in the coming weeks.

Chip purchase: BTC.086 per chip
PCB and components: $35 per 16 chip board
Assembly: $60 per 16 chip board
Testing: Price TBD. Testing will be available, with pricing determined once the procedure has been finalized.
Hosting: 8% flat fee based on miner production, plus electricity.

Chip purchasing will remain unchanged. All customers who chose to have their chips shipped direct, or to another assembler, will be processed in the order received upon chip delivery.

PCB manufacture and component sourcing will be completed and ready for assembly prior to chip arrival. Subject to change pending final PCB design and testing.

Assembly will begin the same business day as chip arrival, assuming they arrive early in the day. Otherwise, assembly will begin the following business day. Assembled miners will be delivered as completed at the end of each business day, until all units have been produced. All miners not receiving burn in testing expected to ship within 72 hours of chip arrival. Burnin testing shipping times TBD once the process is finalized.

Assembly is open to those who purchased from other group buys, however; miners assembled from chips arriving through other group purchases will experience significant delays due to increased shipping and processing times, and will not be processed until all units from this group buy have been completed. Additionally, these chips will be processed in a FIFO queue, which will begin once the minimum board run quota has been reached.

Hosting will be made available. Those who elect to use this service will be processed in the order received, concurrently with assembled miner shipment.

Miscellaneous parts including heat sink, stand offs, screws, fans, USB cables, and power supplies are currently being sourced, and will be available in both kits and fully assembled with the miner.
Shipping fees for each variation will be calculated and posted in the coming days once more information regarding size and weight are received.

Batch 3 will soon be complete. Once finished, Batch 4 will commence. All purchases that did not make the Batch 3 cutoff will be credited to Batch 4, and a confirmation email sent.

An email regarding assembly options will be sent next week to those who have already purchased chips to ascertain interest in the options available to determine the number of miners produced from each batch.

Batch two has been purchased early to lock in the shipping date. Thank you to all who have ordered. I am offering 1000 chips from my purchase in batch two for those having coin conversion difficulties, leaving 1209 chips Available for purchase.

Update: 5/10/2013
Avalon has released their design. I am having it verified and getting pricing for fab and assembly. These numbers will be used to gauge open source projects to determine the most cost effective route and give accurate pricing for finished miners. Pre-orders for assembled miners will be available once pricing and manufacturing are confirmed.

Update: 5/9/2013
I have partnered with developers to provide the equipment necessary to turn Avalon chips into miners. This includes boards, software, assembly, and miscellaneous parts like power supplies and cases. The goal is to have all the parts and equipment necessary ready prior to the chips arriving to reduce turn-around time and get functioning units hashing as quickly as possible.
I am also working to build out my warehouse to host up to 30kw worth of miners. More power is available if required.
Once prices are finalized and prototypes are hashing I will release specs, pricing, and purchasing options.
Any chips purchased through this group buy will have priority cue placement as they will arrive at the same time as the first batches sent to assembly. Chips purchased through other group buys will have the option of using this service, but will have slower turn-around time due to increased shipping delays.

Update: 5/8/2013
Batch one is now closed. I would like to thank all of you who purchased chips.
Pre-orders for batch two are now available. In order to facilitate the purchase and lock in an early order date, I am purchasing the batch once half the orders are received.
The batch 2 address is 12Ns8RCHVTzTkVMk8h3i3q5M2mFV9UCSZj

Update: 5/6/2013
The fee for batch one chips will increase to 15% total, equaling BTC.09, Thursday, May 9th, 12 p.m. UTC. Batch one has been funded.
Once batch 1 is sold, funding of batch two will begin. Once batch two is 50% funded, I will fund the remainder and purchase from Avalon.
