I think your in the wrong thread.

I think not. What is killing Litecoin, do you think?

It doesn't solve any existing problems.

Dogecoin strikes back!

Doge hashrate has increased 7x from yesterday (470 MH/s as of this moment) with auxPoW feature introduction and keeps growing, on the way to reach that of Litecoin. 51% attack FUDsters can shut up now. Doge will be as good as Litecoin in hashrate or better because it can accept other scrypt pools hashrate, but it stays significantly undervalued compared to Litecoin. Expect a jump to at least 100 satoshi before or around the time of reward halvening in 2-3 weeks, and that's just the first of the series of deadly blows to Litecoin. By the end of 2014 Litecoin and Doge market caps are equal.

Litecoin and Dogecoin fill a niche market for purchasing coins with small values - Like a silver and bronze (copper?) to Bitcoin's gold.

This point is kind of weak... i mean you can buy a fraction of bitcoin and here you go.

Exactly, they fill no niche market. Maybe Dogecoin did since it was used as a tipping currency, but Litecoin is simply a Bitcoin clone aka the first shitcoin.

The Litecoin is "silver" to Bitcoin as "gold" has always been a silly argument to me, since Bitcoin can be as little as one satoshi (0.00000001 BTC => currently worth US$0.00000477). It is hard to imagine a scenario where you actively need values less than that, although at times transaction fees on Bitcoin can be an issue on small amounts. Service-level wallets are an easy solution to that point though.

I had the same question. Bitcoin in compare with Gold can be divided into small amounts and there is no need to use altcoin as a Silver to Gold.

it has one more advantage - its on almost all markets with USD and other coins will have hard time getting there
after milion dollars were pumped by speculators to BTC now its easy for tchem to do same with LTC - just for pure buble profit
u need to be able to diversificate ie if 51% happends - thats where LTC comes

True litecoin is dead. No innovation the only good thing about it is that it is one of the oldest coins with no scammers involved same as peercoin, namecoin etc.

Litecoin is like a turd pie. It can look like chocolate from a distance, but the more you get near the more you realize the smelly truth.

Litecoin has a good name - Not only English name, but also Chinese name.

Why bitcoin is popular? Because of name.

I'd hardly call that a niche, there are thousands of coins that you can get cheaper than BTC.  You've just described every altcoin in existence, heh.  Rather than just being cheap, why not look for a coin that serves an actual purpose?  Lots of coins now have, or will soon have, features like asset exchange AND are still cheaper than Bitcoin.  What new features does Litecoin have in the development pipeline?  Does it even have a development pipeline?

interesting point of view.

From one hand,I agree that if altcoin would like to live long term it's better to serve a purpose, now there a plenty of altcoins that are cheap and good only in a manner to mine it asap and sell it to BTC. And from another hand, it's really difficult to create a coin with features that would make it popular and liquid. There are disputes about features that good coin should have and probably this dispute will never end

You could also have a case where a coin become region-centric (with or without a country name). Already there are reports that China is gobbling up BTC's - Imagine if BTC disappeared from Western use.

How does that tie in with merchant acceptance of litecoin though? or do you think all these gocoin  clients will do a u-turn in a couple of months after realising no one wants litecoin anymore? would make a lot of people look rather stupid hey..

peopel manipulating BTC switched now to manipulate LTC as its easy for tchem. price got dropped - they buy out and will raise it to some crazy point
doesnt matter if LTC vs BTC has advantage its just other coin on almost all USD/coin exchanges and that givs it an upperhand
