When I started gambling my mindset is solely about winning some cash to better my life but the more I gamble, the more that idea shifts. The money no longer satisfies my initial goal but the idea of winning does.

But even with those ideals in play, why would a millionaire start gambling in the first place?

so why would a rich athlete or politician become so addictive to gambling?

I think socialization+joy+drinking+gambling is satisfaction to them. What do you think?

A millionaire can start gambling as he wants the entertainment that comes from gambling, as he continues to gamble without being disciplined he'll get addicted to gambling and will then want to continue playing it just to fulfill his  satisfaction. A majority of addicted individual don't care if they're losing or winning when they're gambling. For some individuals it's about the money that they're making as they're addicted to making money from gambling as they're not always losing when they gamble.

For those individuals that are losing but still gambling, we can say it's about the wins that they're chasing. The individuals will say when they win that they'll stop gambling but after winning they won't stop but want to continue to gamble further. Gambling addiction works differently for different individuals and this is why we have different types of addiction an different reasons why they get addicted to gambling.

Yes, that's also one part of it.
They like to be with people, they like boasting about their riches, they like drinking, and they love spending their money, that's all the reasons why they will gamble and I think it's just okay since they have the money to do so.

I don't envy them though, it's still nice being on the average side because you enjoy what you have and you are disciplined enough to secure yourself financially. That means working harder, that means budgeting everything, and that also means being a responsible gambler if you are one. We can always adjust to anything but rich people might have a hard time once all that wealth is gone. The rich keep getting rich, they say, but that is because once they fall adjustment will be not easy. Some even take their own lives because they cannot swallow it.

Fine by Time
Before some rich people become rich most of them had gone through the effect of gambling in the society. At least that experiences are something that they don't want to forget. So, in as much as they are rich and could afford anything for themselves the spirit of gambling is still in them. This is where the idea of gambling for fun comes into play. The gambling for fun comprises the feeling of losing and winning. When you win you rejoice and would feel that you are a good gambler while whenever one loses you feel so sad (but not regret) which you would want to show yourself by winning the next bet.

The rich gamble with the rich. And there is a euphoria feeling whenever they are in the casinos gambling with their fellow rich gamblers. It gives them so kind of relaxing feeling that they are among the elite gamblers. Such a gambler regardless of his profession he won't stop gambling.

You already stated it; what more will be the reason for rich people or wealthy people to choose to gamble? simple as that they want to waste their money just to satisfy themselves, for pleasure, of course. Why do they get addicted? also simple because they have the means to continue playing despite losing too much, but as we know, money and wealth are not infinite, so if they continue to waste money on gambling, then at some point they will stumble and may lose their luxurious life.

But in their lives, one thing we only know is that they are just people who found fun and satisfaction in gambling; they are the ones who didn't take gambling seriously because, in their minds, it was just a hobby, and no matter how much they could waste, as long as they were enjoying themselves, they would continue and would not stop until their end point.

It doesn't matter if someone is rich or poor, we all start gambling for fun & easy profit. The stakes are different, everyone has their own limit and perception of a min bet & big win.

It's not a question of how someone becomes too addicted to gambling, I think we are all addicted, so the real question is how well we are able to control it. Without control, anyone (rich or poor) can lose everything they have and get into debt on top of that.

Each of us has our own reasons why we like to gamble, for sure it's common for all of us to feel the thrill of taking risks and trying to get bigger wins. Other factors like socialization in land-based casinos or online casino chat rooms, and drinking can add up to the experience, but some people just like to gamble without them.

The reality is that most gamblers, and specially the most addicted ones, are usually people without much money to begin with.

Most millionaires would rarely gamble. As you mention, there's little point for them to do that.

They can instead enjoy many other activities with the money they have.

Gambling is basically paying for chasing the fantasy of becoming a millionaire, which they already are.

To add to Oshosondy, gambling is a social activity and a way of life for the rich and wealthy. Did you know that there are exclusive land based casinos, private gaming clubs, and invitation-only events only for the wealthy. Some example of these exclusive casinos are Venetian Macao – Macau, Casino de Monte Carlo – Monaco, The Kurhaus of Baden-Baden – Germany.  And these type environments has been modified so that they can participate in various forms of gambling while socializing and networking with their peers. In some of these gambling venues, business deals and connections are made. They interact with potential business partners, investors, or clients. This is more than just place to bet on high-stakes games, such as poker, baccarat, or blackjack but a place that provides them a sense of prestige and belonging to an elite group their wealth and social status are showcased. However, if they do not gamble responsibly, they too will become addicted to gambling and lead to loss of wealth.

Gamble responsibly
If it is land based casinos, socialization is among the reasons you will see rich men that are gambling. But some rich people also prefer online gambling and that can not just be because of socialization if the rich person only prefer to gamble online and prefer privacy. A rich person that is addicted to going is because he is not able to discipline himself and such addiction is not good at all because it is possible for a rich man to become poor.
