This is not necessarily true. In my case, the few people I shared my knowledge on crypto with in the past were skeptical (worse for them) and this made me keep this Bitcoin believer alter ego in secret almost since the beginning, when my belief system couldn't be well rooted. And I have witnessed cases like mine plenty of times in this forum, and I've debated about it several times in my local board with colleagues who lived the same I lived. But we have persevered even against the current. In part thanks to these pages, although anonymity conflicts with the "close relationship" you mentioned.
People around you can affect you for better or for worse, but in the end you have the ultimate power to follow your guts, and dare to think differently.
