This is very much possible. I have seen instances where some exchanges use both for trading. There was a time i was trading and i noticed some orders on both buy order and sell order that remained the same for a very long time. It got to a time that i started wondering that how possible could that have been, without any buying them . Later on, i noticed it was done by bots that have been programmed on those exchanges.

I think, yes, there are many factors that prove that some market players can influence prices. Therefore, this option should not be ruled out.

Unfortunately it is true that market is manipulated and mostly by big investors for their personal gains, as you can see the current market is no different it is also highly manipulated by whales so that their buy orders get filled for cheap.

that's very posible, because the pricing is an auction, when the low price is approved by the buyer, price will fall, it happens otherwise. And it happens if a person has enough capital to drive the price of the total volume.

The entire crypto industry, if not all of the greater part (trading) is built on speculation. It's my opinion personally. It's because whales are able to manipulate all the rest on the market and there's nothing to be done about it.

Yes, manipulation is possible and could be occuring on basically any project or exchange.  'Market maker' is a common term thrown around exchanges and trading discussions, referring to someone who has enough assets on either side to swing the exchange in a direction (to an extent).  Sometimes this action is intended to cause FUD or FOMO.  Just goes with the territory of exchange trading.

Latest article by www.wired.co.uk stated that a newspaper by researchers  at the University of Texas at Austin's department of finance indicates that someone at Bitfinex cryptocurrency exchange may have artificially inflated the price of coins including bitcoin, ether, and Zcash. The responsible for this appears to have been Tether, a cryptocurrency with the same CEO as Bitfinex.
What are your thoughts about this? Do you think they really manipulated the price? Is it possible?
This 100% possible, we see manipulations around cryptocurrency market every day, and this inclouds the grand-master of all crypto (Bitcoin). what do you think happens in the year 2017, what causes the market pump? manipulationS.....

Yeah, while there won't be trillions of trading volume, whales can easily manipulate prices and use pump and dump schemes for making fast and easy money. Also in future regulation can help market to fight with whales.

Of course it can be manipulated! Look at charts and then open news at the time of big pumps and dumps.
Some news are published with time lag specially to make manipulation!

The market on a general level is manipulated by different people at different stages. First, we see pump and dump groups inflating prices so high just to crash it after few minutes, again we see the whales who keep suppressing the price just for them to buy low and inflate the price when they want to sell.

Yes, as long as the market can be manipulated, the greater the market's cost of manipulation, the greater the cryptocurrency will become the fourth largest currency this year. In the next two years, it will surpass the third largest currency.

I think manipulation is possible. Previously, there had been news manipulation. Maybe it's one of them. In any case, I think that if now manipulations to reduce the price, then in the future there will be manipulations to increase. I don't care, I just hold.
Manipulation is not just possible, it is being done. Wash trading, spoofing, name them are all being done across exchanges. Do we want to talk about how the media is being used daily just to send wrong messages and even false ones to the space and you get to see people and traders acting on it pretty fast.

All those things are being done in this space already and it is a good thing that the government in a way is looking into it, but the hard part is that it is not globally regulated and with all the exchanges thereabout, it would be hard to implement.

It absolutely can. Important to note that volumes are not actually that high in the crypto space in general, only dollar values because BTC is so (relatively) high. Therefore, any trader with sufficient backing can wreck a market

Ofcourse it can, any market can. Crypto is easier as there's such low liquidity compared to the stock market or forex.

The market is likely not, but the market prices, of course, can be manipulated, like the securities market. Everything comes from the desire and benefit of big money. Incorrect information, early information sinking, and the market begin to fever.

If you don't think there was at least a LITTLE market manipulation then you haven't been in the crypto community for very long. I remember even back when I was just getting started in 2013 how there were incessant claims about the market being manipulated, along with all kinds of other arguments about who was doing it, if it was the whales, the exchanges, if the normal users could do anything to fight against it, all kinds of fun things. I could probably go back into my post history and find out just how often there were threads like that since I typically ended up involving myself in them.

The chances that the market was manipulated and that there were some things that happened because of that - which wouldn't have happened otherwise - is incredibly significant and honestly, in my opinion, nearly guaranteed. It's like with Mt.Gox in 2013; the market was manipulated, inflating the price, bringing Bitcoin into the forefront of the news cycle for a while. I personally got involved due to that manipulation, so it's not always bad.
Yeah I haven't been in crypto for a very long time, I've just joined last year and still continuing to learn. Anyways, thank you for the information I think I still need to read and read articles or news anything about crypto.

Many of the people who own a large amounts of crypto have been in this market  for a number of years and know each other. They can take coordinated  actions to increase or decrease the price. So also in this way the crypto market can be manipulated.
