My doubt, regarding signing in segwit address is if this is a "bug" and will soon be corrected, or is it an abandoned feature?
It is neither a bug nor an abandoned feature. It is just that we are still working on creating a more generalized signing scheme that lets people sign with things like P2SH addresses (e.g. sign with a multisig address). There is simply no standard yet for signing with such scripts or with Segwit.

Hi, thanks for quoting that discussion. This was my first discussion here in bitcointalk, more than 2 years ago, and the problem is still not solved... i wish we had a solution for this, so we all could really stop using legacy addresses for good,.

While electrum did a nice solution, we still need a solution which is widely verified by any software.

I believe your good nature in this undertaking has been abused right from the start:

Indeed.  That is what this community does and isn't limited to merit.  If what you say is happening in this thread is true, then it is a very good example of how this forum is allowing scammers to make multiple accounts to abuse the system for their own benefit at the cost of generous members offering their time and resources to help others.  If you think people are willing to go far to earn a merit, imagine the kind of nonsense occurring to get multiple accounts into the DT network to inflate their trust ratings and punish those who stand up against them.
How about increasing the level from now on?  Cheesy

Set a requirement to use only vanity adresses with at least 4 digits. Most likely that will help to prevent *some* fraudulent practices if we add more requirements (at least x posts, at least x registration duration etc.).

That is really sad to see so many users trying to abuse this topic using newly created accounts just to spam.
I think setting a vanity address is going to be nice, however I think a minimum merit requirement would be interesting (like 2-3 merit)

Phreess - A Self-Appreciating Token
Hey Newbies (& Jr Members)! I want to give you the opportunity to earn some merit by using your Bitcoin client (or whatever you use). There is a great guide linked below showing you how to sign a message. If you can sign a message from your Bitcoin address with your bitcointalk username, post it here and I will send you merit. Enjoy!

Why is that other wallet btc address could not be verified? Isn't it connected to the bitcoin network? Or only it will be connected when wallet will be used for doing new transaction which is being broadcast to the network and node will going to accept and update it as the latest transaction for bitcoin. However, I am confused with bitcoin network and that include this one signing in message though I can sign in a message in my bitcoin wallet but it could not be verified just like what it shows in the other replies.

What could be the reason behind why electrum wallets could not be verified by other signing bitcoin verification message?
It depends on each wallet. Most of wallets use BIP 39 for their mnemonic seed but Electrum has its own code to create wallet seed (not BIP 39). The difference causes troubles when you verify signature by different wallets.

If you have ever imported other wallets that support BIP 39 into Electrum, you will see the option for BIP 39.

https://electrum.readthedocs.io/en/latest/seedphrase.html

Moreover, if a wallet does not support Segwit address type, it can not verify signature is signed from a Segwit address with another wallet.

Thank you OgNasty for such a great task. Before that, I didn't know that a bitcoin wallet can be used to sign a message.

Wouldn't verify.

Next try.
...

It didn't verify because SegWit (bech32 is native SegWit) has no standard for signing messages yet:

My doubt, regarding signing in segwit address is if this is a "bug" and will soon be corrected, or is it an abandoned feature?

However, if it's signed from Electrum, it can be verified from Electrum but only from Electrum because Electrum is using an own function to sign / verify here.
It verifies from Electrum:

And because of that it doesn't verify from Jochen Hoenicke website:

But for better compatibility it's always recommended to sign from legacy addresses (1....).

I think I did this correctly!

For some reason a message signed in Electrum 4.0.3 from a address starting with the BC characters does not pass verification using the service.

Those who don't have/away from pc, you can also use Coinomi to sign the message.

Btw, @op don't you think your giveaway can be abused since you are giving merits to newbie rank for simple task?

I find it a very good initiative. I'm pretty sure a lot of users never even heard of signing a messages from Bitcoin addresses. Even I didn't know about it until around 3-4 years ago, when I needed to sign a message to recover an account somewhere. I was like, wtf? Something like this back then would have saved me a lot of time =P

What might seem like a simple task for "advanced" users, isn't for newbies. Besides that, new "bitcoiners" may avoid storing coins on third party wallets/services, as they'll notice they don't have full control over their funds when trying to sign a message from some shitty service calling themselves a wallet.
