Many users must be crying at the moment, specially those who are into the account farming; I hope this system will be helpful to keep this forum clean. I am not sure, but is there any possibility to abuse this merit system by the merit sources for their personal gain ? I mean, what if someone is ready to sell the merits ? I know, it will never happen but still have some doubts.

Agree 100% with this.  A new window, or maybe just code in a little box next to the post where you can type the Merit you want to give and then hit Give or something.

I'll also vote for some sort of CSS dropdown box. I guess you'd have to use XHR for fetching and verifying smerit, which theymos may not want however.

over the rules about merit, what I'm worried about is the illegal system of buying and selling of merit and also the existence of a group that give each other merit among members in the group
I hope it will not happen
Yes! I am scared of this too. Everyone from member can sell Merits now. There will be a dark market I think. The same history as the selling of accounts.

I think this system may help fight against rank farmers. I see a lot of low-quality posts in the forum just put together for the sake of gaining rank, and the merit system may be helpful. I guess we will wait and see.

Can we ask for merits for an exchange of service?
Like, '5 merits for making signature designs'
Or is it against the rules just like trust farming?

By giving service you are not posting quality posts in forum. Eitherway if you make signature designs or provide any other service it should be put up in trust wall.

Merit system is to encourage garbage poster to end their shit up and post up quality and not to encourage them to make bitcointalk a better marketplace.

Honestly, I don't think it will be allowed as the Merit system is for the posting quality not a payment system for your so called "service".

This will happen probably, there are groups that will surely come to think of this and they will exchange merits so they can rank up their accounts but hopefully Theymos will come up to something to prevent this kind of thing

Newbie here and just want to learn about the merit system...

Seem like good way to encourage people to post better thread instead of rubbish. Since I decided to be full time crypto trader, I will try to contribute here...

This might not be fair for new people, I don't know if others will ever consider to give merit to newbies. Guess I had to been registered here like 1year back to get some kind of "good" positions. Juniors and newbies are often treated poorly and seen as funny guys around, not taken seriously.

Would that mean that there's going to be some kind of discrimination for the newbies and juniors, and they won't end up ranking up since no one would give them merits anyway? Well I guess if a newbie/junior is able to post with high quality, they'd be given a merit regardless of their rank.

There should be a drop-down to check merited by whom.
and Is there anything available through which a user can check who sent him the merit point?
Actually, I'm desperate to check who sent that one merit point to me.  Cheesy Cheesy

Now it make very difficult to leveling up on BTT

Good. But what I think you mean is it makes it difficult for shitposters to 'level up' which is the whole intent. Quality contributers should have no issues.

If I will not achieve the 100 merits, but I have 120 activity does it mean that I will stay as   a member? Because it is stated in the OP? FULL 120 activity 100 merits.

I would also add the need to have a certain amount of merits before to be able to open a thread, there has been a lot of thread opened just to spam referral codes and similar, that would be much appreciated!  Wink

Merit system has been implemented only to encourage users here to post high quality posts. If anyone is opening threads or spamming posts, then he would only be increasing posts but he wouldn't be having any increase in merit count until someone finds his/her posts to be merited. Ultimately he would be banned(if noticed by staff) and will get nothing other than increased post count.

I welcome this change and would love to see how thing goes.

When you give some one merit point for good post ,does the merit point decrease who gives the merit ?

No, you have smerit which is the points u can give away but it doesn't decrease your own merit.

So I can give merit to myself?

There should be warning, you can not give merit to yourself, don't be selfish  Cheesy
No you can't, this should how merit system works.
I encourage people to give merit to posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

How can we be sure about this system not being abused? User could just create a private/open group of users here outside the forum lets say 500-1000 e.g. telegram, FB etc. to boost others account to have merits. Even in local boards which most DT`s doenst really understand whats going on in that section?
theymos will make a 'merit' page to see on how often members are giving merit to other one. And people who are giving merits to others are transparent and can be seen so there will be an obvious if "guy one" send merit to "guy two" most of the time. But this will be hard to determine on who are those people doing this thing all of the sudden, looking at their post one by one.

For now let's adopt this system and it's better to give credit to the valuable posts that contributes to the forum's greatness.

The merit system actually reinforces the main purpose of this forum and that is to educate and not just be solely a platform for earning. There has been many users who has been abusive of this forum, which is why I think the merit system will allow recognition to those who are truly deserving and informative in this platform. There are certain parts of the new system that may be unclear but let's all remember that this is new and its trial would lead to a success if we learn to cope, adapt, and not abuse its features. Hopefully, people now would start learning their lessons and not just post for the sake of earning but for getting a merit in return which would help them reach the rank they are deserving of.

Ok, i get the system, but isn't it a little bit harsh for people waiting for levelling up next week?

It would be harsh since you are ranking up next week and you wont accumulate the necessary merit points to rank up.

Also, can i buy merit points or make a raffle for merit points. For example, i will make a raffle who sends me merit and give 0.20 eth to winner such a thing.

It will only lead to abuse of the system. Even if there is no such rule about selling or raffling merits if such things happen a lot threads will be created for that purpose.
