what are the merits for and what are the benefits....
actually this is a trite question that is often raised by new accounts which incidentally are not new members here to seek sympathy and empathy.
Where in local forums it has been explained a lot and even topic threads about rules relating to merit and others are listed and stored at the top
I myself reasoned that new members would definitely stop by at the local forum and ask there or search first about merit
but I hope the OP is indeed a newcomer here
For sure the @OP is new to the forum and there are many other's also along with him who are in hoard to ask the same questions via creating these similar threads and spamming up different boards across the forum. But the thing is they need to be familiar with it and in rush to rank up they violate the forum rules and end up banning their account through these works. So new guidelines and pop up box for them would help them a lot.

Some things on the forum like hidden mail address arealready some addressed privacy concerns by default, repeated merit, activity and se forum functions that continues to get a repeated answer could be explained by a default welcome note or possibly with links to where newbies would get clarification other than having them start there own episode.
There are some suggestions but implementation relies in @theymos hands and we have seen one updation after many years which is adding @OP to the thread creator name so these others will possibly take more time to be implemented correctly.

These welcome notes could help newbies as well save forum from lot of spam threads that ask about rules and merit related stats because they tend to ignore the forum search function and their direct approach is to ask by creating a thread but will see if have it along with new forum software or not.

The welcome message I feel should be too priority on new implementations to the forum, and the way I see it, would not need much tweaking of the current system, just a pop up for brand-new members.
A welcome message would really be helpful and directing them towards some threads explaining the forum rules and little bit of forum functionality tutorial will also be helpful but that would go into too much demands seeing that we are not seeing simple updations also but if implemented can help newbies a lot if they intend to learn it.
Possibly, that could be some solution to some of the repeated question threads on the forum although, some users might play ignorant or not to have given it much attention but it could help for genuine newbies and for some other newbies that gives attention to what is presented before them.

Hello community, I have a little confusion so plz help me to solve this. What is Merit and how do we get and what is a benefit
In my opinion, you have discovered the solution to your aim on this issue.
Make it a non-issue. The Merit system was successfully implemented. Personally, I admire theymos's foresight in creating this forum. I hope you don't whine and blame the system because if you come here with good intentions, you will have the pleasure of meeting wonderful individuals.

If the post/thread you make contains the terms of a quality, constructive and informative post, then you have no reason for Merit Source to skip your post with Merit.
It's not like that merit source will always notice your post as there are hundreds of threads being created daily and it's hard to have an eye on all of them which is why we have many merit sources across across different boards but if you think your topic is good and didn't have merit you can always report them to the thread you have mentioned above. But there are merit distribution from members as well so you can see if you post is really good and helpful you can merits on them to rank up.

I appreciate your efforts for creating a table explaining the merit system but you can simply quote the original author in these cases like we have on the first page and it can be avoided so it's advice to you on this matter as you are not explaining something else so you can see that

Theymos proposed it here. It's been 4 years now and we still don't have one.
It's been four years already since that thread was created? Feels like we have "forum years" now which is much faster than regular years.

But don't worry. As soon as we name an official custodial of all the world's bitcoins and the next Ice Age passes, there will definitely be one.
I thought that's how long it would take for epochtalk to be live  Grin

I'll take this thread as an opportunity to present this little proposal to our administrators: from now on whenever a new member joins the forum, redirect them to the FAQ thread where Merit and basic rules of the forum are explained.
There has been a lot of talk and different proposals for a welcome message that should be shown to new users. Theymos proposed it here. It's been 4 years now and we still don't have one.

What I saw is people like to make a post of their own and enjoy other people commenting on it. I might think some people know and read pin posts but still, post about the same thing. Is that an addiction of people to get people's attention or I do not know what I should call it?

I am not saying it is a bad practice because some quality comments came out from a repost topic that might have never happened in the old post of that same topic.

This is the most common attempt to achieve merit. They're hoping that someone will just give them the merit while in a good mood, as they did with the OP, and also that those who create new threads always get merit more often. This also worked great for a while. At the same time, newbies most often plagiarize when trying to attract attention to themselves. Then fly out of the forum, and maybe already on the 4th or 5th attempt to create an account, they become more accurate and carefully try to "survive" on the forum by creating one post per day in the local thread. In this case with the OP, I see it that way.

Dammit, this info and more has already been stickied in Meta.  Don't people look before making threads like this one?

I am sure some of them (those who actually care to know the rules and dynamics of this community) would sincerely be thankful of it, specially those who otherwise would have not found out plagiarism is not tolerated in this town till is too late Wink

Hello community, I have a little confusion so plz help me to solve this. What is Merit and how do we get and what is a benefit
The three questions which is involved in your questions, the three deserved it's own answer

(1) what's merit. Merit is the system which is being render for the growth of everyone who is in the forum, and if you are not opportuned to earn merit before your activity reached to a certain bracket of the activities of the forum rank positions such as jr member and member, full member, senior member and  Hero member and finally legendary member, you will remain stagnant until you earn a merit that worth the any of the position your activity approach to.

(2) how do you earn a merit: merit can be earn through your contribution, and it's being award because of appreciation to show that the person like your post. So liking your post is something that deals with good ideas of responding or contributing for someone conversation.

(3) the benefit. The benefit reply on my answer to towards what's is merit, because it's only means of getting to a new rank and if you don't earn merit you will remain stand see with one particular stage.

Hello Poorman1, you now understand what merit is. Do you need more explanations?

The merit was introduced to the forum to serve as an encouragement to forum members that provide questions and answers to posts made in the forum. The two merits you just got serve as an encouragement for questions asked.

OP how do you intend to get merits? your post history shows that you are not ready to engage or make meaningful contributions to posts in the forum. You only after asking questions upon questions

here Below the Hero Members, the talent of the users is very necessary. Because there is no need for legend hall or merit but we all should support everyone from among the users. Because if the big legends don't support the small users then it will never be possible for them to come forward until they become credible. That's why if you need to be credible, then you definitely need the support of legendary and big users.

Hello community, I have a little confusion so plz help me to solve this. What is Merit and how do we get and what is a benefit
At least that post of yours has shown you how merit works. It's never a cast in a stone kind of approach. Look at it, you asked two simple questions whose answers you could've easily harvested by a mere search and someone felt sympathy for you and sent you a life jacket. This is why I've continued to maintain that the merit thing is subjective, not in anyway objective. In some other threads, (even if it's on the same merit issue) the OP would've received a backlash or at best, in an embracing mode, received direction to other threads but not received any merit. Count yourself lucky on this. Now that you've been pointed to threads by others, let me quickly add that in your attempt to hunt merit; just steer clear off any forum infringements. Write to help others by making helpful comments and responses. With that, I know merit will trickle in.

Your nickname, OP, made me smile. You are from Pakistan, right? And your question about surviving on this forum suggests that you are most likely not a newbie, but have had the experience of being banned from the forum. It's obvious from the nickname.  Grin
I don't know of any other forums where newbies come with similar questions. Survival on the forum, as it sounds.
I think that you have already created 4 accounts and are finally interested in the rules of the forum.
I may be wrong, but time will tell, but for now, I will show everyone the same newcomer from the Pakistani local section who received a ban three times. Furthermore, I hope you understand everything correctly.

Dear community

Hello community:

Hello community,

Hello community,

 Smiley

If nothing else, let's hope he finally understood  Grin
Your post really made me laugh.
In my life, I have been a member of many forums and you are really right, just to be a member of this forum, people fight with all means, and it almost becomes a matter of life and death for many  Grin
As far as I can see, even 3 years after being excluded from the forum, some are still fighting for membership in the forum, as if their lives depend on it.
On the other hand, it is an interesting phenomenon that there is actually less and less activity and active members on this forum.
Of course, we all know the reason why this is so, and it is obvious that we will see many more questions like this about merits and progress on this forum, even though this question has been answered many times.
Guys, if you want to get something from the community on this forum, then you have to give something first, you can't get something for nothing  Cheesy

Hello community, I have a little confusion so plz help me to solve this. What is Merit and how do we get and what is a benefit

I think now you've got 2 merits and have 1 sendable merit attached, the question now is hoe do you as well utilize this your single merit in giving it out on others, will you look for a quality post that has your convincing support for receiving merit or you will just give it out on any post indescriminately? You know the answer quite alright, same thing is applicable to you just as you will love to merit a good post then members are willing to see the quality standard in yours as well and got it merited, read all the provided links on merit and try to give some valuable contributions to the forum, also have this in mind.

OP date of registration:  Date Registered: September 15, 2022, 07:43:36 PM and the OP created this thread on the same time of September 15, 2022, 07:56:44 PM, but just some minutes/seconds differences, that means what
(~)
said is not far from the truth, because a newbie who was introduced by someone to the forum will never ask merit for the very first thread unless the person is a returned user.

By the way my Seniors have explained and some also provided threads which you would read before even asking this question to you, if you really for the forum read them. I also provide one of the useful thread for you to read. Calm down and read this... fillippone
