I have never heard about MEW being breached by hackers but i do heard about careless users who got their MEW being hacked. There are several ways to protect your digital assets in MEW if you also care to read about them. For now, what i have noticed is the new GUI of MEW which doesn't only makes it cool in appearance but also some additional security features as well.
No, and there is a rule that you need to follow on online wallets and exchanges which is that once it got hacked, you should never use it again. If only there is another good erc20 token online wallet just like mew then I would've use it but instead I'm still using metamask whenever I do the transactions.
For me, MEW is one of the safest wallets to store the coin by securing the MEW wallet, because i never faced any problem with this wallet and always the transactions are very fast. I am using this wallet for more than 2 years which i never faced any problem with the MEW wallet.

You might just find the difference in the web address itself, so you need to check it critically well.

You just can use metamask if you are afraid to using Myetherwallet then.
Even if you bookmarked the myetherwallet website, it still can be phished or hacked.
I remember in the last year, there was a dns hacking attack in google public dns and the mew website has been phished.

The Vintage version of MEW is far better than the current new flashy version which has so many unnecessary cosmetic features, no doubt

MEW was always safe and are still safe. Just be sure you are on the right website. You can check certificates and if they are ok, you are ready to use MEW. If you want extra safety, use metamask+mew together.
If we use metamask + MEW at the same time, we will be 100% safe.
