As long as you have enough fund to trade, you can start trading.
Usually it doesn't need too much to start trade but remember trading still like gamble means you will likely to loss.
I'm usually gain some fund from faucet like freebitco.in

0.5 btc is enough to start trading however besides the capital trading needed skill to do so and i think the main problem from trading is could you predict the exact situations and got the profit and recover your loses if sometimes the prices down because only with cut loses will safe your money and could be useless if you start trading with huge money but always be loses for me even with 0.001 btc you still can start to trading

I will be using LocalBitcoins, if I have 0.5 BTC I can sell up to 85% of that in my own advert then the rest on another person's advert. Is there a way to make a profit this way? Or is 0.5 simply not enough to start with?

When I started trading in bitcoins, my initial trading amount was 0.01 bitcoins. Therefore starting with 0.5 bitcoins is a big plus for you. Localbitcoins has good people and at the same time has bad people. As long as you will identify the right people, you will reap your profits without any problem. If you want to trade on LBC, it is better to look for people in your localty, those you can find easily and they have a good reputation on the site. You can look at their trading history and reviews that have been done by those that they have traded with.

for me, there is minimum how much bitcoin you can start to trading. it is about, how well you ready for trading. because in my experience, i start trading with just 0.001 bitcoin, and i get profit in 1000 satoshi. if you want to try with small amount, you can try with yobit, there is many coin with low rate.

and if you have 0.5 btc, then you are good to start trading. but my suggestion is, do not trade all of your 0.5 btc, you should separate it for like 0.25 btc for trading, 0.25 you can keep for the next step to trading. and you should remember the quote "do not put all your eggs in one basket".

yes 0.5BTC is enough to trade with but what i don't see anybody else mentioning to you is this: trading on localbitcoins.com needs reputation and although the spread is high you can't just get in and start making money because people would prefer someone with old account who has built some trust and trade with them.

and why did you choose localbitcoin for trading bitcoin? why not an exchange?

You should have to start with that amount, as that amount is much bigger for a starter to start trading, some people are there who are starting trade from 0.001

Check how often are people selling in localbitcoin, but I would suggest you to take a look at the altcoin exchanges like poloniex yobit etc and probably starting trading altcoins but first you should research about that coin and see the trading trends, 0.5BTC is enough to start trading with.

0.5 BTC is enough if you use a combination of something like localbitcoins and bitstamp or any other bitcoin exchange. This way you can buy through bitstamp and sell on localbitcoins at a higher price or just vice-versa by buying on localbitcoins and selling on bitstamp. While you will grow, it will be slow and not enough profit for long. Would just suggest to keep increasing this amount slowly as you gain experience.

0.5 bitcoin is enough to trade. But if you trade dont fear to lose your bitcoin. Like in altcoin if you want to earn just wait even if the price dump, patience is a virtue. because waiting more time is the key of success trading.

It is true that this amount is enough for trading but i will say that is much bigger and good for a good start, but that is not true that trading is risky, it is risky only for those who do not have experience for trade or do not have skill in there,if you are new to trade and do not know much about trade then do not trade and if you are with good knowledge then take your start.

There is no minimum amount to start trading, I believe even someone with 10 $ can start with trading.
I see you wish to trade just with bitcoin, more money you have bigger profit you will make. And I think your amount is pretty good.
I think trading and earning on price fluctuation is very risky, you need to be careful with this or you can lose much more then you make profit.
Try with less money, and never be greedy.

0.5 BTC is a big amount to start with as if the price keeps fluctuating by 20-25%, you'll be losing 12.5%. LBC and Paxful have a lot of scammers sending funds via PayPal and Skrill who would be willing to sell for a 20% markup too and BTC being irreversible, you would be at a loss. Why don't you try Coinbase or coinsbank for trading?

I think 0.5 is a good start and i think you can make a large profit with that amount .. local bitcoins is one of the market that you can sell your bitcoins person to person..
You can also use it for altcoin to trade. to make more profit..

0.5 is ok to start trading in fact invest only what you can afford to lose so you'll be fine what ever happen to your trading ventures, there's always a risk involve on trading but you will get used to it as you proceed,it's impossible not to lose specially if you are not a veteran trader..

0.50 is a pretty "Huge" amount of start trading. Not sure what you mean by selling upto 85% of that.If you're trading on localbitcoins ,keep the sale's margin low ,not as crazy as getting rich in one day.Depends on the type of payments you're expecting to receive.Lot of scams with Paypal exchangers, stay away from them. The best method that worked out for me was Bank Deposits.Sell coins for IMPS  bank transfers.
