There is only one solution to this. Legalize the drugs. The Mexican drug cartels simply exist due to the lack of availability of legal drugs on the American side of the border. Capturing Joaquin Guzman and putting him behind the bars for the rest of his life will not make much of a difference. He will be quickly replaced by someone else.

Very true. Back in October 2014 when the government changed the laws regarding hydrocodone, word on the street here in Houston was the cartels had massive amounts of heroin just waiting to flood the streets as soon as the laws went into effect on October 6th - Houston was/is a major hub full of pill mills, much like Tampa with their oxy clinics and sure enough, when the laws went into effect, many of those users switched to heroin as it was not only cheaper, but now more accessible. The thing with this is, a good portion of those users aren't what you'd picture as the average addict and what was already a huge problem here is now even bigger and much more deadly. The cartels aren't going anywhere as long as there is such a huge market for them up north, the amount of money being made by the cartels is staggering.

It has started, in marijuana but then there´s cocaine. And heroin I guess. And a variety of pills.

Much of crime is caused by users trying to fund their habit so maybe it´s best to legalize it all and make it cheap. There are always costs but reducing crime and improving the safety of the public is worth a lot after all.

I bet they would not ever bust him if he did not try to become celebrity. Authorities there are way too corrupted to do arrest like this just like that.

He was probably the one who covertly called in the military, just to kill off his buddies who he didn't like anymore.

Now; this is one invasion by U.S. forces that would make sense to me. Occupy the border districts, clean up the place, withdraw. Rinse and repeat in a couple years.
Go to Juarez for three days, report back.

There are efforts being made to extradite him to the US.
I don't think they will succeed.  Smiley

It´s easy as a pizza pie. First decide the area you want to clean up. Paratroopers/special forces capture key points in the rear, marking the periphery and preventing escape. Then the clean-up crew rolls in.

In a country where the police force is crooked enough to let this guy out twice, how is there not a single guy who is crooked for the better?? Nobody who murders the guy behind closed doors and claims that he was trying to escape? Im sure the officer would find himself on the wrong end of cartel justice, but someone needs to off this guy.

Whats the point of capturing the guy. The government is so corrupt over there. All that's going to happen is some high ranking official will be bribed or threatened for his release or escape.

Its one of the reasons why that country is run by the cartel. When the government is corrupt. The police force is corrupt and the citizens wont give any information about these people because they are either scared or worship these people because they put money into the community. Nothing will change.

Young but I'm not that bold
Mexican authorities snared drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman in a bloody raid Friday, recapturing one of the world's most notorious and slippery criminals.

"Mission Accomplished," President Enrique Peña Nieto announced via Twitter. "We have him."

Members of Mexico's navy caught Guzman in an operation at about 4:30 a.m. (6:30 a.m. ET) in the coastal city of Los Mochis in Sinaloa state, a senior law enforcement official in Mexico told CNN.

Several people aligned with Guzman died in the raid, the official said. The Mexican navy put the number of dead at five, with six others arrested. No navy personnel were killed, and only one was injured.
