Basically you borrow the stuff you want to short, and sell it at current price. Later, when time comes to return that stuff, buy it back again, hopefully much cheaper (and have a profit). In this case step 2 depends on members of MMM desperately wanting to sell mavros much below the "official" price. This will inevitably happen, question is when exactly.

I don't get why anyone would be dumb enough to put their money into something that is so up front about being a ponzi...

at 40%, you make your money back in 3 months, can withdraw what you put in, and the rest/left-over is profit. So if you can risk waiting for 3 months, then you're golden, and just have to sit and watch it grow until you get nervous and pull out.
