I just want this to be over and to have my money back.  Fuck, I'd even settle for getting SOME of it back.  Undecided
If he's reading this thread, and senses you're not going to do any thing about it, you won't see any of it back.

He scammed you, now you have two options:
Report it, and potentially see a return.
Do nothing, get nothing.

all i did was sell him bitcoins ... ?
And all he did was steal $555 from you?

Just because it's BitCoin doesn't mean you should do any thing less than you would if hacked you bank and stole $555.

no, i know, but someone else mentioned i could be held liable for aiding a crime.

SR contains many legal items.

selling digital computer code that may or may not be used as a medium of exchange and/or to buy drugs is NOT an crime.

If I sold someone a hammer and he beat you over the head with it.  Am I liable.   Ahh NO.  Now if I told someone  I would buy him a hammer if he would beat you over the head with it and he does and that could be proved in a court of law then that is a different story.

Can you actually take him to court because you can prove it he received it? And you have all communications with him.

Yes, I can prove with the blockchain.info link that it was sent and received into his bitcoin wallet.  The difficult part is trying to decide whether or not to reveal certain other info regarding why he wanted the $555 in bitcoins that day.

Is it possible you could be held liable for aiding a crime?

i could?

That's like blaming the bank for giving a guy a loan to support his "crack" habit... Makes no sense.

I think he was confused when you said Cancel the paypal transaction. He had a transaction canceled on him.

Oh, the sad, sad guy.

Cyber fraud and cyberstalking? I'm willing to bet you've got the right guy.

it's the right guy - he's 24.  also, the "festival" he was buying for is mentioned on his fb profile page ... and the whole "oh, i'm a yoga instructor so i would never invite bad karma on myself" bullshit helped identify him as well because on his fb he talked about wanting to become a yoga instructor, and the yoga school messaged my friend saying they dismissed Chandler without a certificate.

lol.

it's the right guy.
Cool.

Give him a few days to return the funds, or cancel the PayPal action, if he doesn't then file a police report. It won't cost anything and won't take long.

Here is a link to his probation information:

http://webapps6.doc.state.nc.us/opi/viewoffender.do?method=view&offenderID=1310767&searchLastName=co&searchFirstName=c&listurl=pagelistoffendersearchresults&listpage=50

Also:

at the exact same time as he emailed me claiming not to be the Chandler Corbin in question, he also deleted all of our facebook posts and us from viewing his profile.

UGH.  fucker is trying to run instead of just paying what he owes me?

Oh, what do you know - he just responded to one of my emails:

---

from [email protected]:

"HI, What are you asking about? Im pretty sure you have the wrong chandler corbin? I live in colorado and I do not have any record of beating anyone?"

---

that's hilarious because he has a record of being arrested for harassment in Steamboat Springs, Colorado ... and then never appearing for the court case ....  lol.

I had a guy scam me out of $900 for a computer using paypal a while back.

I filed in small claims court and he never showed up.  I got a judgement against him and they arrested him and about a year later I got a check from the court for the full amount.

It was a pain in my ass but I got my money and I was happy.

that is awesome, bo2573!  but, like BCB mentioned, i don't have the same kind of recourse with btc through paypal.  all i can hope is that someone will get through to him and he will return my money.  he isn't responding to email or facebook though.
Sure you do.  No reason you can't file a small claims court lawsuit just the same as bo did.  It'll be more difficult to explain the bitcoin part of it, but you're still owed the same amount of recompense for your troubles.
