I finally got it to work. The problem was with the power supply to the riser and it was a very strange problem indeed. The riser is V006C with a 3x2 PCIe power supply connection and a short sata cable to be plugged into a sata PSU cable. When I used a PCIe cable direct from the PSU it worked fine but if I connected it using sata to PCIe cable it didn't. Some of my other risers are powered using the sata cable so this didn't make any sense to me. I uses a spare the sata to PCIe cable and that didn't help, it would only work if connected directly into the PCIe cable. I have no idea why this is working this way. The only thing I can guess is that with the other sata powered risers that are working OK they are connected to my 2nd PSU which is synchronized to turn on when the first PSU is powered up. This means they should be getting their power a little bit sooner than the devices powered from the 1st PSU. I am just guessing here but if the sata power on the 1st PSU is slightly delayed in starting up it could have been just long enough to prevent those risers from getting their power early enough to be "detected" when the MB PCIe was initializing and connecting to the risers during power-up.

Anyone ever have the problem where one of your GPU's won't get recognized on a riser? For the life of me one of my Nitro+ RX 470's won't get recognized by the BIOS no matter what I do even with this new BIOS. I changed the riser, changed the PCIe port, installed this custom BIOS and nothing helps. All the other GPU's are fine every time the system reboots but the GPU fans for this one never startup and I can tell immediately that it will not get recognized as soon as the power on switch is pressed. This is the 5th GPU and the other 4 as I said are fine. I'm using Windows 10 home but I don't think that matters since the GPU never starts up although the power light comes on. I've checked and changed all of the power cables too. I thought it was the GPU so I sent it back and this is the replacement so I doubt if it is 2nd bad GPU. I've also not done anything yet with the BIOS on this GPU.

Hello,

I've successfully achieved my 7GPU rig goal thanks to creepas BIOS.
It worked like a charm!

The option can be found under Advanced > PCIe Subsystem > Above 4G Decoding / Cryptomining

Best regards and huge thanks to @creepas!

It is... in my custom bios in PCIe settings...

sounds scammy, no screenshots picture links anything, plus this board works with 7 gpu using MSI latest bios anyways

Hello,
Im on the current official MSI BIOS and Im having trouble booting with the 4G Option enabled when more than 4 GPUs are connected. I'm getting a blank screen and the Rig constantly reboots.

How can one achieve it with the stock BIOS (I've installed and booted in UEFI mode).

@all who installed creepas custom BIOS: is it safe? and does it work?

Best regard

Can you tell us where this custom BIOS came from. Is it from MSI? I'm having a problem getting some of my Nitro+ RX 470's to be recognized in risers using this MB by the BIOS during startup and thinking or hoping this might fix this problem.

Also I see you are using Windows 10 Pro but I am using Home. Do you know if this makes a difference here?

Are you guys capable of running 7 bios modded GPUs on this mobo with windows 10? I was playing with it for hours yesterday and couldn't get it to work properly. Finally I gave up and left the main GPU unmodded and everything else works fine with 7 GPUs.

For the windows to show 7 GPUs I had to enable in the bios, on top of the Above-4G Decoding, also the Windows OS configuration for Windows 8.1/10. Without enabling this windows option it just booted to black screen. Problem with this option enabled is whenever I try flashing the main GPU, even if it's the only GPU, it doesn't boot properly. It doesn't show the startup mobo bios messages, it just boots straight into windows. If I don't have display drivers installed before turning windows 8.1/10 mode to enabled it boots to black screen. If i try to uninstall drivers or update them, it starts booting to black screen. Then I have to unplug the GPU and use onboard GPU to turn the Windows 8.1/10 option off again. Without that option I can get 5 modded GPUs working without problems.

Shortly said, enabling the Windows 8.1/10 to boot into windows with 7 GPUs doesn't let you flash the main GPU properly, any idea why? Do you guys have the 7 GPUs working without enabling the windows 8.1/10 option, only the Above-4G Decoding?

I flashed the latest 1.7 bios, got 8 GB of ram and Celeron G3900, MSI RX 480 cards.

Hi . i installed MSI Z170A GAMING PRO CARBON 7GPU following  this topic and personal knowledge,  i upgraded that Mobo to this custom BIOS and tried also latest formal update 1.7  ..

Now the problem

i have 2 RX 480, Sapphire Radeon NITRO+ Rx 480 8GB GDDR5  and ASUS ROG STRIX Radeon Rx 480 8GB OC..

now i have strange issue .. when i install only one card ( any of these cards ) every thing work fine , card detected , get 28-29 hash rate .. but when i install both cards in ( PCIe-1 and  PCIe-2 ) ,, one card have full speed  GPU memory/Core speed 1200/220 speed and the other one get always stuck GPU memory/Core speed 300/300 always the ASUS..

see attached pix

any one ever faced that issue ?

do i have to install all 6 cards to make this work ?
and why always i get GPU memory/Core speed 300M ?

also Claymore miner didnot detected except one GPU ( the faster one only ) , it didnot detected the 300M card.

i installed so many AMD drivers 16+ . NOT 17+
changed risers
changed power molex
changed GPU setting in the bios

Windows 10 Pro UEFI

CoreI3 7Gen.... 4 G RAM

============================================
============================================
EDITED
=============================================
============================================

I got it to work .. was a driver issue and also the correct order of installing the cards . i will add more cards later to test the 7 GPU

Hey man, awesome setup, I believe thats 24 systems? You will be hitting 5GH with that soon Smiley
Word of advice, please do not use the molex to sata connectors on your risers, 5 out of 10 short and burn.
Please buy Sata powered risers (red colored), and use them along with molex powered risers.
Remember - connect only 2 risers per cable.

Best of luck Smiley

Guys,

just download the bios.

Only setting you need to turn on is Cryptocurrecy mining to enable.

BE SURE you have WINDOWS 10 in UEFI mode instaled.

I have instaled 30+ rigs all with 7 cards and it just works fine. All mobo there are MSI Z170A GAMING PRO CARBON 7GPU.

All cards i have in rigs are MSI RX 480 Gaming 8 GB.

It will work even with other cards as well. No need to adjust any other bios setings. Only think you need is to enable cryptocurrency mining.

Thats it.

If anything write me on skype... cReepas.

Best regards
