There's a new pay protocol in the works for version 0.9 of the standard client. Is there a risk that Multibit will be somehow incompatible with the new protocol? If yes, are we risking losing BTC by keeping them in Multibit because of that?

The new payment protocol is an extra layer on top of the regular bitcoin transaction.
It does not change the underlying sending of transactions.

(I plan to support the payment protocol in MultiBit but of course it's work - it does not magically happen).

Windows 8.1

Maybe you did not delete the Multibit settings directory? Which operating system are you using?

As mjb states, there is a directory where the user settings and wallets are stored by default. It is most likely using that.

When you open MultiBit if you select the Messages tab (using View | Messages) the first line logged tells you where this directory is. It varies by operating system but on my machine it states:

The user data directory is "/Users/jim/Library/Application Support/MultiBit".

This functionality went into version 0.5.14

I wanted to test if I can restore my Multibit wallet  by backing up the wallet file then I deleted the install and reinstalled Multibit. Now without me even trying to restore the wallet my old wallet details magically shows up. How does the program find the old wallet files if I never tried to restore it?

how to export the private key for one address of multibit to bitcoin-qt?
Export private key without password. Then edit file with some editor like Notepad++ and copy only key - this is row without # ,and you must copy only key - no date and another symbols , and then in BitCoin-Qt open from Help->Debug window ->Console then type
Code:
importprivkey bitcoin private key [label] [rescan=true]

where label is name of owner - your name.
And when press enter the your address with coins will appear in your addresses and in your balance. My be you can wait until client rescaning the blocks .

Hi Rigel,

Thanks for that headsup. I must admit with the number of MultiBit users now I back off from getting involved in every thread (as long as people's private keys are safe).

Hi Clipcoins.

I have a 'soundey' friend, Garcia, who has created some sound samples for me. I haven't received them just yet. Also have some original chimes from another source (not sure if they want to be named).

I'll post them all when I get them for people to listen to.

Ok great, please do when you get a chance and would love to have this added to Multibit.  Would make it more functional and useful.  And I am getting good value from Multibit and just made a small donation to you via the website.  I encourage others to do the same.

Thanks for all your hard work on this project.

how to export the private key for one address of multibit to bitcoin-qt?

You can do it (it would be similar to : https://multibit.org/en/help/v0.5/help_movingAWallet.html but using importprivkey in bitcoin-qt) but because the way bitcoin-qt does change is different to MultiBit it wouldn't work very well. Change addresses on sends would be different so things would not stay in sync. You'd end up with 'apparently' different balances (when in fact if you drilled down to the transactions in detail they would be fine). Personally I wouldn't do it.
thanks

Could you make it so that multibit remembers the window size i set it to? Currently it reverts back to the standard window size everytime when started and that is imho too big.

This has been on the TODO list for a while. As I am only doing 'essential maintenance' on the current MultiBit I expect it will appear in MultiBit HD.

Can we change fees? Sometimes it put only 0.01$ fee, but sometimes 0.14$. I don't know how it calculate fees.

Fees are a little complicated now, but are _mainly_ worked out from the size of the transaction. You can see this if you do a 'Show transaction details'. You typically pay 0.0001 BTC for each 1000 bytes of transaction. If you have lots of small amounts of bitcoin in your wallet you need to bundle up a lot of transaction outputs so you can get bigger fees.
