Any ideas what I can do to have less "Dead" on the pool?

You maybe want to read https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/a-guide-for-mining-efficiently-on-p2pool-includes-fud-repellent-and-faq-153232. I think it is a good information collection for learning about P2Pool and how to maximize performance. As a NastyPool miner you are not concerned about running p2pool software but there are some miner tips there. Also it is important to understand P2Pool because a lot of miner statistics (hashrate, dead value) have different meaning for P2Pool than for other pools. Most people make the big mistake of comparing these to other pools.

What nonnakip said, but also the main thing you want to look at is your hash rate average reported by the pool stats over a period of time (say 24 hours). If that matches up with what you think your miner should be doing then you need do no more. If not then you need to dig into where the problem is coming from.

When I created nastyfans web interface I made 3 poor decisions about passwords.
  • I accepted passwords using iso-8859-1 encoding
  • I hashed the urlencoded cgi string
  • I used md5 base BSD password algorithm 1 for hashing

I will not discuss why these are poor decisions. But now I implement new method hashing raw utf-8 passwords using SHA-512. This provides better obfuscation if nastyfans.org is hacked. It also solves problems some members have using old Internet Explorer with symbols in passwords.

The next time you sign in to nastyfans.org your password data will automatically upgrade. In the optimal case no one will notice anything. But since some browsers are very broken it is difficult to predict if the migration works perfect for all members. One concern is utf-8 support on older Internet Explorer browsers.

I share this information so nastyfans are prepared. If you can not sign in or if you can sign in once but then the following sign in fails then maybe you hit a bug. In such a case please PM me or post your problems here.

That will be great.
Something the community should really get behind.
Remember both of you to get a hold of me when you want me to get it up on CCN and around the web.  Grin

On 2014-03-17 I begin recording the accepted P2Pool shares submitted by NastyPool miners. This will be used for a new reward system I develop with the help of OgNasty. I do not say now how this will work. I only want to inform NastyPool miners that since 2014-03-17 your mining contribution to NastyPool is tracked and will be used to give you extra benefits in nastyfans.

I'm pretty excited for this new reward system.  A 0% fee P2pool node with a >100% BTC payout sounds like a win-win-win for the network-NastyFans-miners.

That is very cool.
Now the only thing we have to worry about is different scrypt dev's have been talking about hard forking several of their coins to head off the scrypt ASIC influx.

Just in from Alpha Technology...  Our 25MH/s scrypt miner order has been upgraded to a 90MH/s scrypt miner free of charge and we should expect it to ship in July.

Thats good news. Seems to be the trend, order one thing, it gets delivered late, you end up with 100-200% more than you asked Smiley

I've read a bunch of pages, and have some questions for OgNasty:

1. If we go to green technology for electricity in the future will the spit between fans/mining change or stay the same
2. Have you thought of overclocking the singles to get a bit more life out of them vs selling them
3. For fundraising, have you ever thought of a bond lottery type system:

- members choose to forgo dividend, and their share becomes an entry to lottery. The div then goes to debts/re-investment/etc
- put up some prizes. e.g use some bitcoin merchants like gyft or some seats as a prize each week

1. Green technology wouldn't change things for fans/mining at all.  It would secure that our structure can continue operating with no costs like this.  I wouldn't expect fans to absorb this cost either.  If there was sufficient demand or a private investment, I would like to sell off a block of my personal seats in order to pay for the green technology.  If anyone is interested in buying a block of seats, please contact me via PM.  Perhaps a few large buyers out there would like to take advantage of this offer to buy a block of seats without buying the auction up to double the price...

2. I haven't given any thought to over clocking the singles.  They run pretty hot and inefficiently as is.  Once our Monarchs arrive, I may end up auctioning them if a better solution hasn't presented itself.  The offers I've received for them recently have been in the $175 range, so we might as well mine with them until we have better equipment in hand and then auction them or something.

3. Obviously our fundraising process needs an overhaul from the structure of the debt to the interface that debtors use to see it.  I've discussed and heard some amazing ideas from nonnakip about this.  I have no idea how long a market for NastyCredits would take to develop, but based on the ideas I heard, it will be a while.  The plan is to take it way beyond just a debt market and if nonnakip is able to implement half the ideas I heard, I will truly be excited as a trader and a fan.

Thanks for the suggestions.

- A bond lottery system sounds interesting.  We've discussed various ways to introduce a lottery to encourage participation amongst miners, but not fans.  That is something to consider.
- I've thought a lot about things we can do like prize giveaways.  Once we get the final bill for our scrypt miner and make payment, I wouldn't be surprised to see some new Nasty products with a fun giveaway to kick things off.   Wink

Alpha Technologies just released a statement regarding KNC's entering the Scrypt ASIC ring.

Quote from: Alpha Technologies
Greetings Miners!
We would like to assure you we are very aware of our competitors hash rates and pricing and intend to match them, we started development in May 2013 and are on schedule to ship in July giving us a clear lead.  During development we decided to make our units larger and upgradeable so we could accommodate increased hash rates with ease, we gave ourselves this leeway for a variety of reasons.  The announcement of Scrypt miners by our competitors was of course one such reason that we anticipated and planned for.  A full announcement with details on our new batch 1 hash rates will be released very soon!

Sweet! Gotta love competition and the free market (well, in this regard anyway!)
