Some updates from Butterfly Labs today:

I'm working on getting additional benefits for those that paid $4k for the cards. I don't want to reveal any specifics yet, but we will hopefully be able to take care of the customers appropriately.

That's us.   Grin

The engines return correct, valid nonces. That completes the functionality tests as far as design goes... there's still a new more tests to go, such as power usage, etc...

If people want a dollar value they can compute it themselves using whatever exchange rate they want.

That sounds like good new nastyfans feature. In settings I can make a option and members can choose which exchange rate they want as basis for theoretical value and auction charts.

If Mt.Gox survives then the Mt.Gox rates are valid because real transactions happen.

Eventually MtGox transactions may be valid but they haven't been valid for months because it has been effectively impossible to withdraw fiat from the exchange. So it is a trade not between USD and BTC but between "some odd unredeemable MtGox credit that might someday be worth USD" (some call this GoxUSD) and BTC.

My suggestion would be to just remove the exchange rate. If people want a dollar value they can compute it themselves using whatever exchange rate they want.

I'm curious to know about the state of our incoming hardware Smiley I guess it's very near?

I haven't heard anything from CoinTerra, although I can see that they've been shipping units.  I think we are entitled to some kind of additional compensation if we don't receive something from them very soon...

The last word I heard from BFL is that they are testing waterblocks for the Monarch.  Considering they are just now testing waterblocks, I would guess it will be at least a month or more before they start shipping.

Black Arrow has been sending me updates on their progress, but it looks like they're still targeting a May ship date.

Alpha Technologies frequently sends updates as well, but they also look to be shooting for a May ship date.

So basically, we are still in a holding pattern.  I have been working with a designer on a new physical product, but that is several months away from making an appearance as well.

Actually more transactions happen on Mt.Gox then all other big exchanges combined.

I don't think this is true. Combined, BTC-E and BitStamp exchanged $746M in 30 days, MtGox exchanged $350M. BTC-E&BitStamp exchanged 1.1MBTC, MtGox exchanged 0.85MBTC.

The Gox remark was only meant as lighthearted conversation starter, but I see you guys are ontop of the situation as usual.  Cool

I'm not sure exactly how nastyfans.org is coded, but I'd imagine that changing the exchange rate for the site is more involved then just pointing it at a new API.  I'd also imagine that decisions need to be made, like how to handle past recorded USD data for the charts, what rate we want to trust going forward, and probably more that I am unaware of.  Rest assured that nonnakip is aware of the issue and I'm sure it is on the TODO list.

I do not rush to change away from Mt.Gox. I wait to see how Mt.Gox situation ends. If Mt.Gox survives then the Mt.Gox rates are valid because real transactions happen. Actually more transactions happen on Mt.Gox then all other big exchanges combined.

nastyfans auction and distribution operates in Bitcoin so it really does not matter what exchange rate we use.

If I decide to use a different exchange source (I consider coindesk) then all USD auction history charts will update to new source.

You might want to change the home page  Huh

it still links theoretical value to Gox  Roll Eyes

I discussed this issue with nonnakip several days ago.  The main concern was getting the pricing for our coins using a correct exchange rate, which has happened.

I love my (physical seat) coins. They are so beautifully done. I kept some myself and gave some away as Christmas presents, which went over huge.

Thanks for posting the video - have to say really impressed with how clear the addresses are on the coins themselves, so you've got a great process going there!

I uploaded a video of the NastyFans Physical Bitcoin engraving process for those of you who may have been curious.  I engrave all of these coins personally as they are ordered.  Enjoy.

I also setup YouTube & Google+ accounts, but Twitter will continue to be the social network of choice for the latest updates.
