so many crapcoin outhere in altcoin announcement it makes me dizzy Shocked . Where do u think this will ultimately lead to ? I am afraid all these crap coins will bury NEM under a ton of  Huh crap.

I don't think so. Of course there are so many crap-coins right there but in my opinion NEM will beat most of them when its finally developed and released. I can imagine no one else has such a big community standing behind.
Maybe NEM need some time in the beginning to get well known but this is all coins inherent.  Cool

There is no doubt NEM will be special, its just that the crapcoin stain might get smeared on NEM too, some people want to call NEM NEMCoin, I too thought it was the right thing to call it but the more shitcoin I see the more the ending word "COIN" seems more like a negative.

Personally I don't mind there being so many coins. Let the people have some fun Smiley
What does bother me is that a lot of those coins that bringt no actual innovation or value over their ancestors have higher prices than say NXT or XRP.

I'm very confident that NEM can be a real big player if we manage to get our message out and people are willing to understand.
If people don't want to learn you can't force them. There are just many people that will call any coin shitty just because.

I think mining plays a big part in the allure of cryptocurrency, I remember being excited like a little boy when I first started mining litecoin with my tiny rig haha.

NXT and Ripple both being premined does not have that same attraction even though they are clearly innovative. Only after people become fed-up of the heat and noise and constant monitoring of the rigs do they realize POS is valuable.

I'm not of another opinion. However we should think about mounting some campaigns to attract more people. Our advantage is the bulk of members we have in comparison to all other coins still today!  Grin So we have just to use this advantage to get a leading alt coin.
You can find so many good ideas in here in the discussion-thread we should bundle maybe better in a new thread.
In my case, i like very much the lasts ideas about charity programs.

Hi UF, is there a current ETA for the V1 launch?

Thanks!

We aim for June/July the latest but can't say anything for sure at least until we are on the testnet.

that sounds great - better the devs take all the time they need.

Thank you all for that hard work! Sadly I have just a master-degree in Education, so I don't know exactly how I could help NEM atm  Undecided
But when I can do something for promoting or asking exchanges, you can count on me!  Smiley

I'm slightly confused with the state of things!

Is the public auditing over now? When will the final contractual stakeholder list be revealed? Smiley

When we have the development contract announcement, then the final stakeholder list is considered final. We will do that sometimes this month.

Hello, I really like the idea of giving to charities. Donating to reputable organizations is a great way to help those who are less fortunate and need help and is also just a really good things to do. I have been quite busy with my regular job for the last while so I have not been paying close attention to the crypto world for awhile. But I thought that I would run an idea past the NEM community that I worked on a bit for NXT. I have some experience working with augmented reality and creating Iphone and Android apps with the unity engine. The basic idea is to create an app that could be used in conjunction with business cards or other printed material to provided more information to people interested in the currency. I laid out my idea in a bit more detail on the NXT forum here. https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,1558.0.html I would be curious if anyone thinks that this could be useful or interesting or has any ideas or suggestions on what could be added to make it better. The demo that is linked is rough and unfinished but should give an idea of some possibilities. If I would continue working on it it would probably be at least a month before I would have enough free time to make much progress.

I disagree with the above comments.

It's very hard to be seen in a negative light when it comes to charity donations.  Charities don't really care why you are donating, only that you do.  It's widely understood and accepted that donations come with certain benefits. Whether it's a tax write-off or publicity, it doesn't matter.  In fact, many charities are quick to point out the tangible benefits.  There are many ways to advertise NEM besides giving away a portion of our stakes to charity.  Sorry for being sappy, but the donations are coming from the heart as we have many other alternatives to generate publicity.  Donating to charity is a positive.  There are no 2 ways about it.

If NEM is worth $50mm and everyone donates 10% then that's $5mm we can give to charity.  That's amazing!  It's good for the world, NEM and crypto currencies in general.

I'm willing to donate 10% of my stake right now.

I understand what you mean, and I didn't mean to say that the whole reason would be as a "PR stunt". I just think helping charitable organizations is a great thing to do, and with the way this coin is distributed it presents an extremely easy way to allocate a lot of funds to a worthy organization so that we can not only immediately begin using our new coins, but also provide a positive benefit to society in doing so AND also possibly gaining positive PR from that endeavor. There is no guarantee that any publicity of any sort will even come of it, but that's okay because that is not the reason why I proposed the idea. The first and foremost reason is to help a worthwhile cause, and second is to maybe give some exposure to NEM.

And anyway, it's just an idea. Smiley

Oh, I didn't mean to imply it was you I was talking about -- it wasn't -- it was just a general impression from the thread.

Also, I certainly did not mean to imply that PR is a bad thing. It is not. I am just saying that PR is tricky. One has to think about how any campaign is perceived. And, I am just saying that stakeholders are going to be perceived as naturally biased and everything that is done will be looked at from that angle.

All ideas (including charity) should be on the table. But, I am just pointing out that a focus on the possible benefits attainable to new users will be a huge step in eventual success. When the coin goes way up in value, then later, any charity chosen will be even happier.

Pure charity? Come on, that's just pretentious. I'd gladly give a portion of my stake for charity, but let's not kid ourselves.

It would be pure charity when we spend a certain percentage of our stake in regard to all other coins  Wink

But more important is the question if it would be possible under NEM to create a charity organization around the world.

In my opinion it could be reachable.

I lean more toward konane on this one. Let's all remember that no one else can get "in" on this coin anymore. Everything that is done to promote it is going to be looked at through the prism of "outsiders" as self-serving.

While it is nice and everything, a charity outreach does nothing to entice widespread use as the charity would presumably want to use the "money" on, you know, its charity. Any accompanying publicity has the danger of being perceived as a PR stunt. In fact, many on this very forum seem to blatantly admit that that is what it indeed is.

Don't get me wrong, I am not against it completely, and if some really unique and fabulous idea emerges that is great.

But, the key thing to sales, and that is what we are talking about here, is the benefits. Yes, the coders are (hopefully) hard at work building real benefits for NEM, but it is up to the community to showcase those benefits as well. (Once known, of course). There is only one direction NEM can go that will assure its success and that is to get new people to want it. New people may not (more likely -- will not) adopt NEM as a must-have coin because the original stakeholders donated some of their coins to a charity.

Helping charities is good, but if the coin is worth zero what has been accomplished? I am not trying to be a downer here. But, I think that any and every move should be looked at with an eye toward getting new people to want NEM.
