Yeah, well - we can't work around everything. It was clearly stated that btt accounts would be necessary to claim stakes.
It sucks for the people that are affected and were excited about NEM but there's really not much we can do.

We do have ournem and could be all given add on ID's there to bolster security for the paranoid element. Seems like a lot of hard work though.
