Waiiiiiit....... Could it be Satoshi = BCnext = UP??? Just now he has figured out a better way to leave after doing it so many times.  Like a girl that gets really good at breaking up with a guys after many years of practice??  Did UP just play us like a Romeo seduces innocent girls?   Shocked

No, Satoshi was brilliant. BCNext was pretty smart. UF.. not extraordinarily bright, and its not because English isn't his first language either.

Hats off to UF for at least admitting his mistakes. Hats back on to you guys trying to cover them up.

Why do you think he is not bright? Not everyone can build a team as it is. 5 million market cap without a single line of code or a paper  Grin Cheesy Grin

Because when it comes down to it, strength is the same thing as intelligence. What good is being smart enough to understand something if you are not strong enough to accept it? Being smart also entails being strong enough to do the right thing, which UF almost did, but not quite.

You're right, a 5 million dollar market cap for a coin that doesn't exist yet is no small feat. Once NEM is officially launched and proven once and for all not to be an elaborate scam, I will admit the core group of devs are pretty smart.

And in case you're wondering, its my official position that people who run scams aren't smart. A successful scam is not a measure of intelligence regardless of how much ill-gotten cash you achieve from it. This is why modern society is on the verge of collapse - the celebration of MOOONNNNEEEEYYY!!!!!!!!!!!! as being more important than LIFE ITSELF.

Just read a coindesk article about blockchain selling prepaid cards with BTC on them. We could do the same thing with NEM, and it should really help with new users. We could make it as simple and as similiar as redeeming a giftcard. Doesn't seem too difficult to implement. Either make it a scratch-off, or maybe even make it reloadable like a debit card.
Edit: I think scratch-off type would be best to start, the debit card type wouldn't be too useful until brick-and-mortar stores accept it.

It seems like if we want mass adoption, we should use devices such as credit cards that are familiar to most people.

This sounds like a good idea. We could work this in tandem with my ATM project.

I am going to be building a prototype Nem ATM very soon. Software will come later.

What you want is a ring that replaces your credit card.

On top of the ring is a scanner that scans your fingerprint, or the fingerprint of the person you pay to.

Did you know that you carry your public key at the tips of your fingers?
You just have to swipe your finger over the ring.

Wouldn't that violate privacy? You would not feel uncomfortable doing that?

NEM {and legit IPO's] needs some sort of new Governance structure with independent oversight.

I may do this and will declare all sock puppets up front [if any]. [It is safer to assume everyone has sock puppets.]

sort of snapchat for verification or something like that, to a trusted party that will disintegrate ID's

an escrow for ID's if you will, send through cypto and destroyed after verification. Fee involved of course to keep Independence.

I call this proof of person. POP.

What give value to something if everyone has it ? Value comes from high demand and the scarcity of supply. I just bought 0.1 stake for 100$ because I know the next billion of unborn children will have to buy it for 1  million  Cheesy

Oh, I am not necessarily looking for that value of a currency. I am looking for the usefulness of it. It is an exchange medium.
But I think you are looking for an asset. That kind of value.
Well, then go ahead, buy up all the cryptos, then you should have extreme value, right?

Too bad the crypto scene is changing so rapidly, isn't it?
you might find that a piece of land would actually be much more salvageable to your children.

I think you are right. utopianfuture was probably dishonest, but the way he left without even a fight suggests to me he saw this as his way to avoid trouble with the SEC.

NEM had an IPO, clear and simple, and like erik voorhees, UP was destined for trouble. His real world identity is probably easy to determine, and I remember him trying to argue NEM didn't have an IPO, and I think UP was starting to get freaked out..

Does UP forgo his dev share now? has that been decided? If he still gets his share, then I'd say UP is having a good laugh at us

UP still gets all of shares he has (several), well deserved(!).

in fact he still holds all the nemstake tokens including sole issuance right at the moment. as u can see he is still Nem.

it is in utopianfutures hands.  that he "retired" was the worst mistake for Nem and will be hard challenge for community.

that he left as leader is good. that he left project is bad.

The creators of Bitcoin and NXT are shrouded in mystery.

What if the creation of the New Economy Movement and UP's sudden departure was no accident?

I would not be surprised if his "mistake" was intentionally planned.

UP leaving the leadership role was inevitable, he has hinted about it. Sure he could of left quietly in the same manor as Satoshi and BCnext, but no, not utopianfuture. Yesterday was the kick off.

The exit plan was genius. He cooked up the perfect type of food for the trolls then resigns. The members and trolls get fired up. NEM gets some extra buzz. The trolls list all the controversies and issues. This allows us to debate and get everything weeded out before the launch.

Anyways, that's my fanciful version.

In the short term, the comments will be negative but once the new people get past the drama they will see that NEM has been built on a solid foundation. We have all the necessary components for success: a highly skilled dev team, a large and active community, innovative features, a simple install and easy to use software.

"Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn't.” -- Mark Twain

I have thought about the same thing, but we have no facts. Either way it has been an interesting turn of events.

It basically happened out of the blue.  And UP could have survived the scandal pretty easily had not trolls relentlessly pounced on him.  It is amazing how all those trolls were just ready to go at the first moments notice.  Either people really hate NEM, are afraid of it, or it was rigged.

Yes, he was wrong, but in the long narrative, it was about the smallest offence that a person could have a scandal over.  For example, other coin's scandals usually involves lead developer taking all the money and running.  This developer's scandal amounted to basically trying too hard to make NEM great and breaking some rules that in the end wouldn't have really affected anything.  Still, it is the principal and he did wrong so he should have left.  NEM will be better with a clean image and nobody cheating no matter who they are.

Still..... I wonder, isn't it better to say as a founder, that the founder was run out unfairly by mean trolls than just mysteriously disappeared.  Lets be fair.  In 5 years from now, if NEM blows up and becomes worth a lot of money, UP will be a hero, regardless of this scandal because history will judge the 99% good rather than the 1% bad.  That is an "IF" case scenario though.  And had he stayed, that couldn't have ever been the case, so it is not worth hashing out.

If UP really is BCnext as many people have suggested, (but I doubt), then this guy really has a habit of starting projects and running away.  I guess the only person in the crypto community that has enough insight into crypto and has so much money and time to play games would really be Satoshi.

how was I suppose to know that there was a new thread if nobody told me anything and why change the thread?

We had a quite sudden happening, which resulted in Utopian Future resigning and locking all threads. This thread was created to replace the old Updates & Discussion thread. We still adhere to all of NEMs principles, and distribution has stayed fair. You can read about what happened in the last 10 pages of the old thread.

Thanks,

read all u can find here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/utopianfuture-182582

We miss input of utopianfuture. as all can see community is already beginning to become shitty and leaving original ideas of Nem. new user open mouth wide trying to climb the top. very dangerous.
you just bored me, I am going to bed
good night my friend. we all need to stick together for Nem even if we have some frictions. so should U too.
