They will do the same thing for cross chain transactions with other blockchains like BTC and ETC.

Thanks, your explanation helped me a lot to understand it better. So as you posted it is not NEM-exclusive. The approach can be implemented with any other blockchain in principle. Why is there then so much hope in Catapult if it could be used with other projects as well?

Catapult is a brand new enterprise class blockchain with not only improved performance but an increased cutting edge feature set that is designed for easy development to lower the entry barrier for rapid deployment and adoption. NEM will be the only public blockchain using this advanced architecture and will be the easiest one to integrate with the private version Mijin.

I've gotten another question what doesn't really depend on the first one. I run a little web service where registration is needed. Currently you need username / password combination. Pretty old school. I consider to implement a simplier login via NEM address but I have no idea how it could work without providing a private key. Any suggestions? I am not a developer but my friend is very capable, so he could implement the idea.

Hello.

maybe this is what are you searching for:

Can some explain me in understandable words what the main advantage of Catapult is? I understood it is a core which connects the private blockchain of Mijin (which can process a huge amount of txs per second) with the public blockchain of NEM (which can process low amount of txs per second). But why should - let's say a company which is interested in blockchain tech - use this approch instead of directly license Mijin from Tech Bureau. I have not really gotten it yet.

Here is the graphic I saw on a blog and which is the base of my quetstion.

Thanks in advance!

The fiat pegging planned by COMSA is a great example. Fiat pegging requires a central authority since you must trust somebody is holding the fiat reserves backing the tokens issued. There's no way around this. COMSA will use a Mijin private block chain for this which allows them the flexibly and performance required. They will then link this private chain to the public NEM block chain for transparency and auditing purposes. This system will create a "semi-immutable" blockchain that allows them to make modifications when necessary but also makes it hard to commit fraud because of the "checkpoints" linked to the immutable NEM block chain. Using the same architecture for both public and private chains will make developing this system much much easier than other options.

They will do the same thing for cross chain transactions with other blockchains like BTC and ETC.

really good explanation!

Open and Transparent Science Powered By Blockchain

Who is this guy? What's the point of teasing Catapult and then saying ''Don't be mistaken, catapult is still pretty far from public deployment''.

He is one of the devs!
And he is right, they are working hard and they should take their time.
Catapult will come out when it is ready!
Bringing something out with bugs would be a disaster for NEM.
NEM has the reputation to be one of the most secure and stable blockchain in the cryptoworld.
A failure would be in comparison much more worse for NEM than for any other Cryptocoin!

I feel very relieved that the Catapult update isn't ready right yet. Meaning that I've got still much more time to buy moar XEM

I think that is the best description yet that I've seen of the relationship between Catapult/Mijin/NEM.  Thanks.

Better than holding gold, way better than holding fiat

I am not here to invest, but I am sure XEM price will rise due to its superior technology.

I don't think you can call harvesting profitable, there are still too few transactions to give harvesting that attribute.
Supernodes on the other hand are profitable for sure but you need a lot of xem to join the program.

If you get a block a week, I say it is profitable. You do not spend any except having xem on your wallet. Your xem appreciates in value over time and is also harvesting which gives you more xem. It is slow, but you can still profit.

without knowing not much about Catapult, guessing that it will be tested in the test-net and all the nembers can participate ?

(There is lot of expectations in the air ... so the product must be weeeellll tested Wink )

Could someone explain me what sum of XEM should be profitable for harvesting?

What is profitable for you?

To get XEM from harvesting every week...

Technically it's profitable to harvest with 10,000 XEM because remote harvesting has zero cost so mining a single block with 0.15XEM in fees puts you in the black ;-).

Right now do not expect much income from harvesting. The fees have just been lowered and many blocks are still empty. A stake of 3 million XEM with an importance of 0.03218% harvests around 1 block per day currently. Harvesting will become more profitable in the future when the NEM blockchain sees higher use.

XEM could be the next ALT to make major price movements. Lots of people on different slacks are speculating on it. Lets see how it goes in the next couple of weeks.  Wink
