Hi, I'm a newb to crypto and I'm trying to learn what all the different projects have to offer. I'm reading that Lisk, Ark and NEM are similar to ethereum in the sense that they offer a platform, but they all advocate to have better scalability and so on over ethereum. Could somebody explain to me what the main differences between Lisk/Ark and NEM are? And do you think the bridging of Ark can offer applications that NEM cannot support?

Dragonfly has already successfully tested "cross-chaining" between NEM and Mijin and claims the ability to do so with any blockchain (https://blog.nem.io/df-starts-crosschain/). I don't think Lisk or Ark have any technical advantage over NEM. From my research, NEM is still the most advanced platform out and once catapult is released, that advantage will continue to grow.

Another difference is NEM has ZERO inflation where both List and Ark are still creating new currency giving them 15% and 6% inflation currently.

Thanks for your reply. What is catapult exactly going to add to the NEM ecosystem?

A lot could be said about catapult but the short version is that it's a complete rewrite of the NEM architecture in C++. The use of sockets instead of HTTP for TCP communication (and other optimizations possible with C++ over Java) will greatly increase performance and allow transactions per second in the 4 digit range. It's also designed with flexibility in mind and will support plugins to make blockchain app development incredibly easy and efficient. There will also be security and stability improvements on top of the increased efficiency and scalability. I could go on and on but google will find much more detailed information about the project than I have time to share.

Thanks again for your answer. I'll definitely do more research about catapult.

Again, this is an amazing news that NEM is blockchain technology being used by Japan bank. Yes now NEM is becoming the most wanted cryptocurrency which is kept on the table where many countries show interest in coming days.

such volatility in the market today, it's been a rollercoaster day. High was $.055 and just shy of a 500 million market cap, then a big drop down to the $300 mil market cap twice.. before rebounding to $.049 and 440 mil market. Volume has been well above average with over $20 million for going on 2 days now. Wonder where we'll settle.

In another matter, anyone have any suggestions how I should go about doing this?
I haven't logged into nem on my pc in probably 8 or 9 months, and I know the install is way out of date. I moved to a new house and only have 3mbps dsl here, so trying to update the blockchain would be a big no go.
If I fire my wallet up will it prompt me to upgrade or will I have to do it manually beforehand?

what if I use the android wallet? Do I just need the account address and private key and I should be able to see my balance on my phone right?

I'm not sure how to proceed, any advice would be welcome..

as long as you have your private key. it doesn't matter what happens on the blockchain, and it wont matter when you log in. even 20 years from now. your address is ironclad

Exactly. I was pondering converting my BTC holdings over to XEM a few months ago and obviously am now wishing I had.

I seem to have inadvertently ended up with more value in XEM than BTC by doing nothing more than sitting on my flabby behind. If we get a juicy dip then I'll go more XEM. The current moon shot hasn't convinced me but I'm pretty stumped by every crypto market right now.

BTC dominance sinks to an all-time low, 62% and dropping.
https://coinmarketcap.com/charts/#btc-percentage

I prefer the inverse metric: BTC Impotence is at 38%.

Next stop for NEM is the three commas club.

You are right, bitcoin's dominance will drop to 30%, altcoins will be the new gems, XEM will be top 5 coin, everything is sweet.

That's a biggie IMO. It's not making itself felt while demand is still relatively low, but Bitcoin spews out around $2 million of new value every day that has to be absorbed somewhere. Imagine what it would do with all coins mined and the current increasing demand.
