Yeah, i also never keep all my bitcoins on an exchanger. Because they have the control of your bitcoins and there are many tragedy about hacker hack exchanger. So it's better to keep it all on your wallet.

keeping our money in exchanges is just a foolish thing as exchanges are places of to exchange our money and for keeping and storing we have wallets available.

Welcome to the forum(your first post), it is true that there are lots of wallets that are safe enough to keep our bitcoins but sometimes we need to trader them for another coin or for cash so we sometimes risk all our funds by sending to exchanges because of high potential profit that we expect.

I agree dont keep all your coin in an exchange if you are not using it or placed in buy or sell wall.  Better withdraw your coin that is not in for trading especially your BTC because we never know what will happen to the exchange on the next dayl.

Even when it isn't for safety purposes, the idea alone that someone other than you is controlling your coins, is horrible. You should have the full control over your coins, and not whatever service or exchange.

no one would definitely choose unfamous   exchanger   if they are actually dumb to  put their money on those sites. As of now i think poloniex,btc-e,c-cex,yobit, bittrex is quite  famous on exchange sites as of now but  theres also a risk  on all of those exchange sites thats why i didnt put all my money their if i got profits i usually  withdraw it directly.
And you know friend, the big exchanges are the ones who scam on most of the occasions because they have accumulated enormous amounts. So yes I am not saying that keep your funds in a new exchange but keeping them in a old and trusted site does not mean that you will never face a scam at all.

"Never keep any coins on an exchange" should be the title
Why are you so negative about the exchanges that we should NOT keep ANY coins there ? Maybe because you got scammed by some exchange, right ?

In that case friend I am sorry to say but you choose the wrong site and in future you should choose the right ones.
And yes keeping all coins on exchange is like gambling with the honestly of the owner.

Would you guys recommend storing your coins on myethwallet? They allow storing different kinds of coins as far as i know. And so are shapeshift. Storing coins in these app can help me access them anywhere with just my Tablet.
I will not comment on this but I can suggest you a few alternatives which are : holytransaction, blockchain ( for only btc ) , dogechain ( for doge coins ) , poloniex and many others
Note : I am not at all saying these sites will nevr scam but they are running since long time.

Technically, blockchain.info would be the safest of those listed (based on the ones I know), as you can get your private key. That said, you will never be safe unless you hold your coins locally and keep them highly protected. No online site is going to change that.
i'm also thinking that blockchain is safe because they're already making advertisement video and it's looks proffesional just see in youtube,it's pretty good, the other just don't want to waste money no advertising

It's only safe because you get the private key. Whether or not they advertise is irrelevant. You are still worse off with them than you are holding coins on your own. Anyone else who has your private key has access to your funds.

I have some coins on my exchange but these are not all on one exchange these are on different exchanges in little amounts so I do not have any fear to lose them as it will not be such a huge lose for me relative to my other bitcoins on my wallet.

The story with Bitfinex teached all of us that it is too risky to hold all of your coins on one exchanger. Thanks God I wasn't holding my bitcoins there. I use Yobit and Blockchain. I like Yobit the most it is very easy to use and the  page is in different languages that is very useful if you are not so good in English.
Yes, storing money on a single exchange is never the best idea. I think for keeping money we should use wallets that are not controlled by someone like the offline bitcoin wallets. And if you are really looking for keeping money on exchange then at least spread among 3-4 sites.

Yeah... I've experience this when my first time knowing about exchanger. I was keep my fund on mintpal , the great exchanger just like poloniex and bittrex. I wasn't being expect that great exchanger can be down / vanish. So from that day, I have transfer about 75% stored coin on my current exchanger ( poloniex and bittrex ) into my local exchanger

Well of course never keep all your coins in one place. Period let along on an exchange wallet.
That is obviously the worst thing you can possibly do to your stash of bitcoins right now with all that has happened in the last month. Embarrassed

exchanges being hacked or gone scam is a bad point in bitcoin reputation because people think bitcoin itself has something to do with these accidents. it only individuals fault that they trust those sites

I agree, there are lots of history where people who left their coins in exchange lost everything.  GOX and  Cryptsy are the bigger one, and there are some small exchanges too like sharex that just close and run with their client's Coin not saying the one posting this message have First hand experience of losing coins to an exchange/trading platform that shutdown.

I agree with this  many exchanger cannot be trusted my friend already send coin to other exchange but there is no coin receiving in her wallet,  Angry always take care when you send your coin to other exchanges.

Yes the problem of exchanges not receiving deposit  is normal, just file a support ticket and they will look at the issue.  It happen to me several times and after filing a support ticket, they fix it.  About keeping the coins, it would be wise if you spread out your coins to avoid losing them all when something happen to the exchange.  Just what happen in cryptsy, on of my friend keep all his coin in it and lost it when cryptsy shutdown.
The problem is hackers always try to hack a exchange' cold storage wallet for the simple reason that they can easily earn a lot of money doing so, so while the exchange might not really intend to scam still they might end up scamming because of the hackers being always irritating them and sometimes even succeeding.

It's all about greed and laziness.
Some people keep money on exchanges because they try to trade or to be first in line if a major drop in the price happens - then they will buy and wait for the correction to get some money.
Some other people keep money on exchanges nowadays to lend for a few cents (I do that too with small amounts).
Some do trading every day.

There are many reasons to keep money on exchanges. Of course, people has to be aware of the risks. I am.
