And frankly, I personally think a carbon copy coin is a wasted effort. Why not roll in some changes to tackle a few issues bitcoin is currently facing? And what's to stop each user on this forum from just creating their own coin and flooding the world with hundreds of copycat branches?

"why not tackle a few issues" the way i see it the scalability problem is bitcoins only issue. And yes there is a scalability problem, right now bitcoin users store every bitcoin transaction in the world on their computers, if 7 billion people were using bitcoin we couldnt be expected to record every time anyone anywhere in the world purchased a couple of bananas or a pack of gum.

Looks fine to me. You haven't found any blocks yet because your hash rate is quite low.
You might be better off pool mining.

I'm having problems getting the pool miner to run.
SW firewall and router should be configured correctly but I can't connect to the pool.

Looks good, you just need to wait for it to find a block. Might take an hour or so before you hit a block (50 coins).

The fact that everyone would have to use a thousand different clients to accept Stevecoins and Billcoins and Joecoins. It's not such a big deal right now, as you could probably count all the altcoins on both hands, but after a certain point in time, altcoins won't gain traction because the top, say, 10 altcoins, are already good enough, and the 100th, unless it brings something remarkable to the table, will go unnoticed.

But literally nothing is stopping anyone, to answer the question. The question is, is it worth it? Most people don't think Bytecoin is worth it, and thus, they don't adopt it, don't install the client, and without people accepting Bytecoin, it doesn't do much. The natural order of any commodity, I think.

Point taken. I always forget about the obvious things, like free markets and basic supply/demand.

Whoa, there are a lot of cats in this wall.

While coinotron is down, I'm taking a break from mining LTC so wanted to give Bytecoin a try. All I am getting is HW errors though. Invalid nonce. I'm mining it just like I would bitcoin.
cgminer config is: cgminer -o http://127.0.0.1:9332 -u username -p password -I 8

I pushed an update to github that should reenable peer discovery via irc on p2pool nodes (re-added the irc channel name). Would other pool operators please pull this code so we can all work together?

You need to allow the node to receive connections on TCP port 16333 for the peer2peer network to work.

anyone have even a vague idea how long i should expect it to take to mine a block at 12.8 mhash/s. Also ive never mined before is 12.8mhash/s really bad? What kind of performance do you guys get out of a single mid range gpu?
