With 290 Mhash/s, should I solo or pool mine?

Well, it would probably take about 4~5 hours on average to generate a block solo mining if the difficulty stays the same, if you want to stay on the safer side you should probably pool mine. I can't really say what would be better for you, neither is definitely more profitable, a pool generally gives you a much more reliable payout, but finding a block makes you feel like you've struck gold Smiley

I would probably recommend mining in a pool, just because it's more reliable, but if you feel like solo mining, or doing both, it can sometimes be more profitable, it's your call Smiley

Just finished a batch of 51 faucet transactions, you will be receiving your free bytecoins soon!
I really need to work on a new payment system, I had to send all of those transactions by hand -.-

EDIT: I've sent to over 207 separate addresses so far, all by hand :/

Yeah, I saw those a while ago too Smiley
It's not the same currency though, that was meant to be a completely physical currency, although afiler does compare them to bitcoins Tongue

Started for fun and to be possibly the first physical sale of an item ever for Bytecoins:

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/bytecoin-auction-1-oz-999-silver-canadian-maple-leaf-coin-2010-166110

It is an auction for a 1 oz .999 silver 2010 Canadian Maple leaf!

I would bid, but I only have 11 BTE on my personal account Tongue

EDIT: It now seems that someone has put my personal address into the faucet, so I not have 11.1 BTE Tongue
I'm going to add a filter to block my addresses from being paid, as the faucet isn't to make me bytecoins Smiley

That was me testing to see if the faucet really works  Grin

I was solo mining overnight and have 11 accepted shares, but hours later I haven't received anything? I've been using GUI miner.

When you solo mine there is no definite reward, at least for a while. Solo Mining differs from Pool Mining in that you are trying to generate a block on your own, so instead of being paid for each share you generate (As in Pool Mining - Generally the reward of a block is split up between many miners based on the amount of shares they have submitted), you are only paid when you generate a valid block, and the difficulty has risen a lot since yesterday on the bytecoin network, so this would be quite a feat without a lot of hashing power (e.g. a few GH/s).

TL;DR You would probably be better off pool mining (If you don't have vast amounts of hashing power)

Ok, thanks. This is my first time mining without a pool, and I didn't expect shares to be accepted unless they were new blocks. I'll probably just keep solo mining then until a reliable pool pops up.

So, apparently _something_ has happened to my CPU miner. (Using GUIMiner and ufasoft's miner)

It says Accepted: 0 (3)

What does that mean? Have I successfully mined something or have I not?

The 3 in brackets means that you have only found stale shares, so unfortunately you haven't mined anything of value yet Sad

So it's just a bitcoin clone? nothing changed?

Cryptocurrencies are now a way to earn money trying to scam, instead of improving the original bitcoin protocol just make a clone, mine some easy-peasy newcoins and wait to see if people are fool enough to increase its price.

Am I wrong? It's just the way I see it at this moment.

Answer: Yes.

Could have been a mistake, if so send me your address and I'll give you 0.1 BTE

NOTE: 1/3 of the coins have been claimed already Cheesy
