It would be great to have a i0coin<>ixcoin exchange. DoubleC ?  Wink

Good idea. Could you also create rikurrCoin <-> i0Coin exchange? I've got some coins to dump.

I could create an rikurrCoin --> toilet exchange for all your dumping needs? Cheesy

With the code adjusted to be 48 coins per 5 min and re adjust the difficulty every 7 days (2016 blocks), the inflation rate should look like this:

http://www.i0coin.org/inflation.png

So we will end with the exact same amount of coins in our blockchain than bitcoin in it blockchain but the maduration period will be much much sooner (maduration: when we reach the ~21M limit)

It will be interesting to see if the generation curve affects the uptake by the community. In any case, best of luck with i0coin.

one of the problems with ixcoin is that we don't really know when the genesis block was created.

satoshi proved the bitcoin genesis block was no earlier than jan 3, 2009 by putting in a newspaper headline.

ixcoin's genesis block has nothing to help verify the date. see: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.447180

if I0coin wants to eliminate this (small, in this case) risk that the genesis block has been getting mined for a long time now, it should include something similar to what satoshi did.

This is not an issue as the Ixcoin client locks in the blockchain and will be update to continue locking it in the future.

So is compiling the source yourself the only way to have the client ready ahead of time?

I am curious about this as well.

Thanks

Seeing as people are already mining and running clients for i0coin I assume you'll change the genesis block and redistribute the client. But what about all those that *don't* update the client because they mined a huge fuckload of i0coins_v0 already? Did you manage to create 2 forks in a single throw? Smiley

If miners stay with the released blockchain and client, there will be two blockchains bouncing around on the same network, one that doesn't accept the other's blocks as valid. You can't really make orphan chains out of the new client's blocks, since the new client will know to ignore chains with a different 0 block. However, an attack vector if you are a huge pool that is ready to go - jump on after modding the release client to also ignore any chains except ones with a block 1 you just made, you could cause everyone else's work and coins to be discarded by overwhelming the solo miners with consecutive block solves and growing a longer chain than theirs.

And so will GuildCoins be born Wink

Is this an error in compilation or is it trying to use the real genesis block but it doesn't exist yet?
It happens when using git HEAD without any blocks downloaded yet. As a workaround I went back to commit c81732, downloaded the existing block chain, then went back to HEAD and it worked.

I compiled the git source under Ubuntu and when I run i0coind I get this error message

Code:
i0coind: main.cpp:1566: bool LoadBlockIndex(bool): Assertion `block.hashMerkleRoot == uint256("0x01f79e95511e638325c288818ed10d95cdfb30bb775c8f024f380a4c9bcd8d4e")' failed.

Is this an error in compilation or is it trying to use the real genesis block but it doesn't exist yet?

What about changing the name to FairCoin or PureCoin ? Or even just iCoin?

you want to rename it moments from launch?

 Huh

A simple question here:

IOcoin and ixcoin have now similar generation curves or ixcoin is going to generate 40M with a curve similar to bitcoin's (but greater and later)?

If the IXcoin trial is anything to go by, it looked to me like supply for BTC dried up a little (X THASH of the suppliers dropped from the BTC network) and the price just went up.

But hey, I really have no idea..

Ok, get your bets in on how much mining power is going to drop from BTC in the first 30 minutes of i0coin being online?

A shitload. Its already dropped because of IXCoin. And you do know whats going to happen to Bitcoin value because of this dont you?

Pity the difficulty only just clicked over, because this may have had a rather nice reversing effect on it. It might still have, just that it won't kick in for another 1950 or so BTC blocks. Im betting at least 2 THASH is going to drop almost immediately.

I'm not in a hurry to release it, we will probably prefer to wait until ixcoin is forgotten. Also freicoin will have merged mining, so it's going to be mined even if its price is 1 satoshi (and that's the absolute minimum because I would buy all generated coins at that price if no one else wants them).
But as said, I'm not in a hurry and some parameters need to be discussed. Just want to have it developed the earlier the better.

Dont get me wrong. I think theres a LOT of room to move in the near future in the digital currency market. The problem atm is theres only so many miners and so many users. And of course the infrastructure that supports these new currencies is still in development. However, things are moving fast. You could release a new currency now but I wont mine it. Why should I? It might be worth something one day so I might mine it initially to create a stockpile but so will a lot of other people and all we will do is hoard. With no buyers in the market the currency will stagnate (and be forgotten?) and you miss your entry point. Enter with a new currency when the other currencies are over-priced and theres more interest from people that are looking to diversify (to maximise its potential), and make your effort in developing the new currency worthwhile.

I agree. There's no point in starting freicoin without merged mining and without any merchant accepting it.
I want it to be used for trade not just for speculation like ixcoin.

By the way, why IOcoin doesn't have merged mining?
It would have been as easy as forking namecoin instead of bitcoin and remove all the DNS stuff.
