I appreciate the need for such a rule however it does little to stem the flow of spam and trolling. Of course, little other options abound.

Fwiw, I think restricting newb posts is a good idea. It's like earning a merit badge as a boy scout, One must demonstrate proficiency before being blessed to play with fire and deadly sharp instruments.   Lol
