Honestly, people act like they are giving up a friggin' toe or something. I signed up yesterday after lurking for weeks and have racked up 8 hours and plenty of posts just reading up on things and doing a bit of trolling. It's not a big deal, and is enough of a deterrent to keep at least some of the shills away.

My name is Zak and I'm new to the board. Glad to meet everyone here. I was wondering how many posts you need or how you can post to other sections of the forum. I didn't have time to read through the whole forum right now and was interested in posting on topics in other threads. Someone let me know please.

Thanks

Due to a mass of trolling, only established posters are able to post in non-newbie sections. You are considered "established" if you have spent 4 hours online and have made 5 posts.

Sensible but annoying Smiley

But sensible.

...and annoying  Smiley

At least I'll learn a bit about the forum before being able to participate in a real manner.  That said, there are other ways to deal with spammers, though this must have been given due consideration.

Very sensible. Does the Technical Support Forum get trolled a lot? If not it would be handy to have it open.

+1 couldnt agree more !

Seems fair to get rid of spammers.
But atm it kind of sucks if you lurk more then you post.

I don't see how this should prevent trolls from just posting 5 posts

Slightly annoying, but it appears it would be pretty easy to spam 5 "adequate" posts in this section within the space of a few minutes.

Only going to be a minor inconvenience rather than deterrent to any serious spammers.

Edit: I now see that there's a 4 hour logged in time thing as well. Now that's going to put spammers off, but not really going to be an issue for anybody that was lurking anyway Smiley.
