Aww, decided to celebrate and get my dog a toy, but apparently you can't use bitcoin on anything.  I can't checkout with bitcoin with the above item.

Holy crap!  Newegg accepting bitcoin is absolutely huge.  I imagine it won't be too much longer before Amazon starts accepting bitcoin as well now.  Can you say domino effect?
Amazing i didn't know this NewEgg store, they have beautiful prices and offers, i assume this page accepting cryptocurrencies will surely increase it's sales like Overstock did...

Indeed pretty amazing you didn't know about newegg Smiley.
But now , I wonder , newegg has store in China. Will they accept bitcoin from customers in China also Smiley ?

Not if you aren't in the US or UK.  They don't exist anywhere else.

(OK, and China.  It's illegal to sell items for bitcoins in China, so probably not.)

It is ?
I thought that selling and buying products was not banned in that god forsaken country.

Holy cow. I thought it would be a bit longer before they implemented it - guess Overstock accepting it was a big turning point for them. Well it's nice to see more major retailers takig Bitcoin seriously, the more merchants there are the more consumers will be interested in it and possibly begin using it.

Seems like they were waiting for the new law.  They announced acceptance a couple days afterward.

Wow this is huge! They have such large market share that this will drive other merchants to start accepting btc also,

All of us should resolve to shop at Overstock and Newegg for all products competitively priced.  By collectively exercising our bitcoin buying 'power' - we FORCE other retailers into using this currency system too.  We are now a very big group.

Please buy your stuff from Newegg!!

I second this, now Amazon is surely going to have to implement bitcoin payments.

I predict that by mid july or earlier ^^ this will happen. Wink

-BTC

In order for this to happen we would have to find some way to demonstrate to Amazon that they are losing potential profits by not accepting bitcoin. There has to be a threshold of loss that would make them implement bitcoin as a payment option. I don't know what that number is though. It might be very high. But I think we can count on Amazon to act rationally in a situation like this.

The only reason they won't eventually accept bitcoin is if they want to compete with it directly somehow.

Awesome development. I think this marks the beginning of a whole new phase of big businesses entering the Bitconomy.

In the next 6-12 month the number of multi-billion dollar revenue companies accepting bitcoin will more than quadruple.

Quote me on that.

I do find that Newegg's Bitcoin purchased return policies a bit medieval.  Gift cards only, pah!

since this news came out, bitcoin hasn't really gone up much, which leads me to think the recent run-up prior to newegg's announcement = insider info speculating on newegg and not because of the marshal auction.

No , it's the usual move. Keep calm and hodl.
One bit of chinese news and we go down 25%. Newegg accepting it , after so many other business and we move up a cent.
Expedia episode allover.

Newegg -> eBay & Apple -> Amazon.com -> 1,000 valuation -> People of China begin to realize their clueless government fucked them over -> Chinese reinvestment, this time permanent -> we're all rich.

Prophet Beliathon has spoken.
let it be, hopefully the 9 btc im holding would give my kids the future they deserve.

lets go btc! opps back to work.

$6000 bucks for your kids future?  That's all they deserve?
talking about the future in price buddy, not in the present value of btc. 6000 could turn into 60k or 600k who knows!
Well, they are your kids, I guess you know what they are worth.  I figured most people would be willing to kick down a few more bucks when investing in their own flesh and blood.  Who is going to take care of you when you get old?

i understand bud, and of course i don't want put a value on my family and never will, is just a figure of speech when you talk about the future you want for your kids or yourself, we all wanna have a joyful life what we deserve, maybe in 10 years from now 1 btc would be 1 millon who knows, i know my investment in btc is little b/c i dont feel like putting all my eggs in one basket, but im defedendly looking to increase my holdings now that we have new egg in play, soon to see ebay and so on.

Great news, but we need more consumer adoption!! What good is it if we have merchants accepting bitcoin but nobody to spend the bitcoins?

Well i wouldn't say no one is spending their bitcoins as even the ones who hoard their coins(users on this forum) do actually spend them but in small amounts
There are a lot of people who just purchase bitcoin as an investment hoping the value will rise in the future. There are many others who will use bitcoin to buy things as it is easier then other payment methods

In some part of the this world 6000 means something like 30 wages.
Also..9 btc at 1000$ alone would make 9000$ (and that in any math all over this planet).
