Well, I faced a moral dilemma and would like to ask for an advice...
FrictionlessCoin created a thread dedicated to NEX (descendant of NXT). I had a lot of fun reading that thread but I suspect some people took NEX seriously. The problem is that if FC waits till April when Nxt source code becomes completely open, he still won't be able to generate a valid genesis block, coz Nxt uses a crypto algo modified by BCNext (this is why we collected 10 BTC for the audit). I support all cryptocurrencies and would like to help him to create a new genesis block, competition is good for the whole crypto-community. But this could look not very good to guys who own NXTs...
What would u do?
My take.
You, BCNext, and others have created something innovative and powerful, and you need to respect your shared creation. Additionally, many people have bought into your vision and staked hefty amounts of very real capital, time, effort, and care to make this new invention into something that the rest of the world values and uses. Of course we all have profit motives at work, but we also have a sense of pride and emotional ownership of NXT because of the many people like yourselves who are contributing to this project. A product is not just the source code and market share; it is the people who come together with a shared vision to make something new and good.
So, someone else comes along and wants to poach your (and others') creation simply because he fails to appreciate how the initial seed was planted. You aren't under any obligation to render assistance. You can support competing cryptocoins (and I think you should) without buying into false criticism. FC claims to be motivated by a sense of fairness, but he has no moral high ground. He is here to extract value at the expense of others, not to add it through effort, innovation, or risk. He is merely an envious interloper who brings nothing genuinely new to cryptocoins.
You are, of course, free to make your own choices of projects and allegiances. Just remember that many people are here because of what you, individually, have brought to this project. Those of us who have spent significant money (like me) and time, talent, and effort (like many others) will wonder whether you truly respect your part of this creation if you can share with a poacher the code that has come into existence through so much of your own effort. If you believe in NXT, fight for it.
