He did an awesome promotion of Nxt.

Release the code, yes, actively help FC, no.

What about other copycats?

Haven't read the next 4 pages yet, so I could be completely out of date here:

I have no problem with someone taking the NXT source code and building something useful on top of it/modifying it/memeing it/whatever.

I do have a big problem with someone who is prepared to blatantly copy an entire project, stealing the entire thing and changing only one letter in the name, in order to satisfy a personal vendetta.

If u ( beloved C-f-B) do get involved with nex in any way, u could find yourself in a lose/lose situation:

nex succeeds: FC takes all the credit and the cash, the potential crypto-freak market for NXT is reduced, slowing growth and diluting NXT's market share.

or

nex fails: u get the blame because of your evil sabotage of FCs project.

U gotta make yr own decisions, but I wouldn't touch this with a very long stick.....

I think it's pretty fickle of CfB to get involved with NEX.  Strange actually.  Is NXT not the winner here?  Or, is there something behind NEX we don't know about?

To be precise, CfB says he will support a good crypto. He did not specifically say that crypto would be NEX, just that he felt he needed to be fair.

Let's not make it bigger than it is.

Either open the source completely and assist with genesis block creation, or don't open the source completely and don't assist with genesis block creation. Doing one and not the other is simply mean.

This seems an unnecessarily hard distinction to me.
If he asks, that is a different story, of course.

But if he gets all the tools, that's great, too, isn't it?
If I give someone a saw, hammer and nails, it isn't mean if I don't help to create a wardrobe.

Ah, perhaps I should rephrase. I certainly don't think CFB should feel obligated to work for free on creating a genesis block for NEX!

But if genesis block creation needs some secret sauce that isn't clear to a competent individual with access to the full Java source code, then that's a form of concealment that doesn't agree fully with the open source movement. We're either open, or we're not open. In April when the full source is released, it should include whatever information is required to allow someone to replicate the coin, including genesis block creation (but not necessarily hand holding).

The market will then decide whether Frictionless's 'fair' distribution makes it a more valuable coin.

Anyway, this is all academic, I already know the exact date that the NEX genesis block will come into existence.

Put like that, we completely agree.

Edit: klee, thanks a lot. I'm so glad that a simple idea like "let's organise all this information daily" helps people. It's good to fell appreciated and the feeling is mutual.

We are a team of people (me, salsacz, nifty, justabit and a few more) who have worked hard on NXT marketing and organizing for over a month and we have not been paid shit for it and none of us are stakeholders.
And even the times we have plead with the community to start giving funding to these projects that is the corner stone of succes: we get zero recognition for it.

There is a distinct bias towards dev work in the community.
Not surprising, seeing the initial group that would use any crypto, especially an innovative one.

However, I've seen a lot of work seen go unrecognised, too.
The people who keep the sites and wikis running spend hours a day keeping stuff up to date.
If the sites weren't there, this would be the only place Nxt would be seen and it would fail.

Also, the calls for funds do not go into the pockets of these people as "stash" but are prespent on buying domains, webspace, or tickets to go to conferences.

I already said earlier there is a tendency to negatively comment on marketing, as if it's in some way dirty and people asking for funds are asking for free Nxt.
Not by all, but it's there. Imagine if that were done to the devs who put in shitloads of hours.

I can't speak for others, but the time and money I put in is spent because
a) I believe in Nxt and want it to succeed.
b) I don't have dev skills, but don't just want to sit on the side, but actually contribute.

To hear someone say that such people are shitheads that basically think they are great and the devs are not makes me more than a little angry.

Now, having said that, I am going to eat, chill a bit and come back with some more positive attitude.
Just send you some NXT, I like your blog because sometimes I don't watch closely this thread for a couple of days and you helped me to keep up.

Kudos.

A new video, a new article, a new guerilla whatever is not enough.

Go to big news sites, go to big bitcoin shows, go to big names to talk about NXT.

Does no-one realize that we had enough of videos and articles?

We are already sending people to the biggest Bitcoin conferences and might even get a stand and speaker position at these events, but hey we got zero NXT to do it with, so we pay from our own wallet. Isn't that nice and fair?
The guys who do all the work has to pay for it too Smiley

You and Niffy could ask for a fund reserved specially for people going to conferences and promote NXT. This could be separated from salsacz's efforts

Devise a plan with funding details, all the conferences and cost. I will support this effort.
Me too.

IDEX - LIVE Real-time DEX

1. I agree that nodes could stay on JVM. But installations for general public have to be download + double click (with or without JVM). We need to find out what Oracle has to say about packaging JRE.

I wonder if this would work? http://www.jwrapper.com

Quote
2. Have not seen the user instructions yet, but I doubt users will understand the whole concept of using local software via their browser. Name one common product that does this, except router config?
If eventually we stay with Java, then let's at least implement JavaFX or Swing interface. Then we will also solve this browser cashing issues with GET instead of POST.

This is possible now to write a Java or (other language) front-end that calls NRS via http behind the scenes. There are a bunch of solutions to building cross-platform apps using HTML5 + Javascript + CSS3 to build native desktop and mobile apps. Many of them allow for a hybrid approach to call native code which would be handy for signing in NXT without a JS crypto implementation.

So, download a native app bundled with NRS server and JRE. Then download the client of your choice or use a hosted page that calls NRS local or just does signing local and gets blockchain from a server (like blockchain.info's wallet or Electrum). These two apps (server and client) could be bundled as well.

All of these solutions are doable and not very complicated.

Well, I faced a moral dilemma and would like to ask for an advice...

FrictionlessCoin created a thread dedicated to NEX (descendant of NXT). I had a lot of fun reading that thread but I suspect some people took NEX seriously. The problem is that if FC waits till April when Nxt source code becomes completely open, he still won't be able to generate a valid genesis block, coz Nxt uses a crypto algo modified by BCNext (this is why we collected 10 BTC for the audit). I support all cryptocurrencies and would like to help him to create a new genesis block, competition is good for the whole crypto-community. But this could look not very good to guys who own NXTs...

What would u do?

is this is a serious question?
Frictionslesscoin has done NOTHING constructive. critisism can be constructive, but his is not.
his copycoin can't be taken seriously. what would be the sense of creating an nearly exact copy?
competition? you don't believe that yourself.

Is this coin 100% premined "seed coins" and dev just waiting someone to buy coins, or are they all premined coins give away for free?
Or how this works?  Cool
Nxt is completely IPO with many different stages:

Original IPO: (1 NXT = 2 Satoshi)
IPO 2: First week (1 NXT = 100 Satoshi)
IPO 3: Second week (1 NXT = 400-2000 Satoshi) - first exchange
IPO 4: Next month (1 NXT = 3000-6000 Satoshi) - aliases, messages
IPO 5: February (?) – distributed exchanges, stock exchanges, client (?)
IPO 6: March (?) – transparent forging (?)
Release: April (?) – colored coins (?)

Well then, quit spamming the NEX thread!

Quit taking the actions of one community member as a representation of the whole Smiley

if you'd read a few pages back, people are actually rather nice about your initiative.

Reminder....  every time you post something like this on the NEX thread... you'll get the same on your thread.

Who cares?

Just because you got competition, doesn't mean you have to freak out.

You are no competition, Mr. Delusion. There is not even a single byte coming from you that could be recognized as competition.

You truly crack me up

Well then, quit spamming the NEX thread!

All I did in your thread was to debunk your impudent lie about the source code, don't be angry. Grin
