NXT is the future

poll is up go vote !

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ask-it-bcnext-yourself-401123

BCNext offers a fun game to the community.

Rules:

1. Community decides what 3 questions they want to ask
2. Community posts these questions in this thread (in ~24 hours starting from now)
3. BCNext answers this questions (will be signed by the genesis account)
4. BCNext has the right to refuse to answer any (or all) of the questions (so don't ask his real name)

This is a win-win game. Community will get answers to some questions (like why the fund raising was cancelled so suddenly). BCNext will see how the community comes to a consensus without strict rules (like "the longest chain wins").

If u accept this offer u could start choosing the most important questions...

Who knew that Come-From-Beyond had a twin brother called Come-from-Beyiond Cheesy

you forget his other brother code-from-behind, and half sister, codeine-from-beyond

don't forget Come-from-Beyonce

And, of course, Cum-from-Beyond!

Perhaps we should ask the initial stakeholders to send 1 nxt to a specific account within a week, to know that these accounts are alive.

If they are not, we can assume they are darkNxt... and take appropriate action?

We can't assume that (they might be on a beach somewhere spending their already-cash-in nxt), and I don't think there's any action we can/should take anyway...

When I last checked, there were only two direct-from-genesis accounts that still hadn't got a public key (and only one of those was sizeable).

Eh? I think we're working off different definitions of darkNXT!

 - NXT that is in an account that nobody knows the passphrase of == darkNXT
 - NXT that is in an account that hasn't yet got a public key in the block chain (i.e. no transfers out, no aliases, no forging) != darkNXT

That 250million figure is including the latter, right? No way to distinguish between the two from a technical point of view.

I think you are confusing things, there are 2 different possibilities:

NXT sitting in an account that does not have a public key in the blockchain.
NXT sitting in an account that has a public key in the blockchain, but where the passphrase/privatekey is lost.

The former is "hiberNXT" and most will probably be recovered some day (2^64)
The latter one is truly "dead" and will prob never ever never be recovered (2^256)

Also, the former can be broken into 2 categories:

An account where a person does know a passphrase to unlock it (one of 2^256 private keys, but still crackable by 2^64 since there is no public key published).  This was done by a person wishing to stash their NXT somewhere; I would consider this to be dumb; the account should publish its public key so as to not be crackable by 2^64 and to obtain 2^256 security.  The person knowing that passphrase can still unlock the account and send the NXT.

An account where a person does NOT know a passphrase to unlock it.  In this case nothing cand be done until the account is cracked in a few years.

Well, we can't distinguish from both all the time. Account# 111111111 is certainly first case, #43742738484638 maybe first or second. So what is the term darkNXT for actually?

That's true - some accounts definitely contain darkNXT (111111111, 1, 100000).

Also, if it is proven there is a bug in the nxt software that causes nxt to be sent to the wrong address, and if the form of this bug is such that we can determine whether a particular transfer was/wasn't a bug, then we can probably identify more darkNXT. That's unlikely though.

Stupid question: is it possible to send x amount of NXT from account A to account A? In other words to send NXT for myself? Smiley

So we have dumbNXT and darkNXT now?

Can someone perhaps provide rough estimates on number of darkNXT accounts and their total amount?

~250M @ 1000+ accounts.

Edit: U should start from one with almost 50M on it.

Holy crap, that is a LOT.

holy crap that IS a lot.

You're saying that a quarter of all NXT is permanently out of circulation only a couple of months after it was minted in the Genesis Block?Huh

That sounds, um, kinda serious to me.  I have obviously missed something.  What's the story on this again?  And which account has the 50M in it?

I think, he just meant 250M are in accounts with no public address.

That is a DISGRACE!?!?!   Angry

FC might well be one of the most annoying trolls ever, but I seem to recall (somewhere in the source bug threads) that he did make a useful contribution or two.
