Aliases don't use "dots". They r case-insensitive and can be written like "BenDover" or "BendOver" (these r identical for software). Aliases can contain only latin letters and numbers, this is made intentionally to make it simple to pronounce them (during a phone talk, for example).
I's the domain name going to be resolved via an api call or something? I'd love to make a browser extension. Does this mean that people that want to use the domain need to have the nxt software on at all times?

Totally safe. It's just a self-signed certificate, all secure, just click on proceed anyway.

I bought a whole lot of different altcoins right before the crash. The only one that seems to have gone up instead of down is Nxt. Has anyone else noticed this?

I believe xibeijan's concern is that if you were to sell the Alias, and give the buyer your Nxt account password, you (seller) would still have access to the account since you know the password of the Nxt account.
