Do we need to do anything again for this next distribution or is the old BTC wallet we linked last month automatically eligible again for airdrop? We have also purchased a little more BYTEBALL and it's sitting in our wallet. Do I just keep wallet open and wait for the airdrop?

Check https://byteball.fr/BBdistribution.php to see how much you will receive (no need to keep your wallet open for distribution)

[...] I'm one of the guys who didn't get his blackbytes.
[...] The only thing I changed compared to the previous distributions is the hub.

You have to talk again with transition bot when you change hub.

Are you sure about that? I changed hubs lots of times and didn't have to talk to the transition bot more than once.

Yes. Unless if, by chance, you are back to the same hub when distribution starts again. The distribution bot needs to know "where" to sent you the BlackBytes.

Do I need to hold the GBYTE in my Byteball Wallet or can I also hand in my Bittrex address?

And can I hand in my BTC address on exchanges?

Also where can I sign up for E-Mail notification of upcoming distributions?

Yes, you need to hold them in your wallet, although I've read that some exchanges will give you the bytes that should be yours. To be sure, put them in your own wallet.
Also, you need to talk to the transition bot in the wallet, and give them your wallet address
AND, if you don't do that, you won't get black bytes.

You need to prove that you own your BTC, so you can't use exchanges to hold your BTC.
To prove you own the BTC, you can send some small amount to the transition bot (following the instructions), or sign a message.
The content of the message signature should be your byteball address, but first you need to tell the bot your BTC address.
Anyways, talk with the bot for everything

Distributions happen once a month every full moon, the next one is posted on the first post of this thread (you should really read all of the first post)

I also made a small guide here:
https://byteballblog.wordpress.com/how-to-get-free-byteballs
And I hope it can answer the rest of your questions.

And remember that BTC addresses are tricky, if you send any BTC, your coins are put in "change addresses", so be sure to have all your BTC linked (you can link more than one BTC address!) before the next distribution starts

How to switch to a light wallet? Is it a different wallet or is it done in the full one?

The best, easiest, and only way that I know of is:
close the client, rename the directory, and restart the client.
- This will create a new wallet and you select light.  Then you copy both the byteball and blackbyte wallet addresses.

Then, close client, rename the new wallet directory, then rename the original back to byteball.  Start the client.
Then transfer the coins to the new addresses you recorded earlier.

Ok, close client, rename folder to whatever, and rename the new wallet back to byteball.  Start the client and see the byteballs have been transferred to your new light wallet.

Don't you need to link the two wallets' chat pages? Have one invite the other to chat, and make a payment request? Otherwise they won't have a shared encryption key for the blackbyte transfer.

I'm here even more concerned in that for sending around $3.50 USD worth of my Bitcoins, plus the $1.50 mining fee, that I got a message back saying that they are seeing that I own Zero bitcoins, which means no free Blackbytes for me and I've just lost $5+ USD. This then offers a web page to look at the reason why it is showing zero bitcoins, of which helps little. I've got 2 bitcoins in my wallet, not zero bitcoins.

You need to have BTC in the address you linked, not just in your wallet. Your wallet has multiple addresses.

Rather than paying the $5 or whatever to link an address just sign a message. It's free.

Seriously "You must have changed addresses in your BTC wallet" makes no sense to me?

Every time you make a payment your wallet sends the change to a new address. That's probably what happened here. Check with any block explorer to see the true balance of the address you linked.

I'd appreciate detailed constructive insight on this to help.

It's pretty simple: make sure the address(es) you've linked to your byteball address (check which these are at http://transition.byteball.org/) contain all your BTC. That is all.

If you don't want to understand about how change addresses work, you don't have to. But don't go around accusing people of scamming you because of your own lack of understanding.

From this, I'm not understanding how to "send your bitcoins BACK to the address you originally linked"? I really don't understand this, please help. When and how the address that I provided, from what the Jaxx wallet said was the address of my 2 bitcoins and I gave to Byteball, to what the address is as of looking at my Jaxx wallet today, I don't know.

OK. So to start with your BTC were in your Jaxx wallet, at address J1. J1 is an address owned by your Jaxx wallet.

You talked to the transition bot, and it told you to make a small payment to address B1. B1 is an address owned by Tony.

You made a small payment using Jaxx. Jaxx took the coins from address J1, sent a small amount to B1, took another small amount for the transaction fee, and sent the rest to a new address J2. J2 is another address owned by your Jaxx wallet.

You have now linked address J1 to your byteball address. But address J1 is now empty. All of your unspent value is now in address J2.

Address J2 isn't linked to your byteball address, because you didn't even know what it was until now.

So you have two options now:

1) ask Jaxx to send all your coins back to address J1. That will involve paying another transaction fee.

2) link address J2 to your byteball address. There are two ways of linking a BTC address to a byteball address:

2a) send a small payment to the address B2 given by the bot. That's a bad idea, because it will take the coins out of J2, send some to B2, take some more as a transaction fee, and send the rest to a new address J3. You'll end up with J1 and J2 both being linked to your byteball address, but they'll also both be empty, with all your remaining coins being in J3, unlinked. You can probably see that this could go on forever (or until you have spent all your coins).

2b) sign a message with J2; this is free, and leaves your coins in J2.

I would recommend going the 2b) route. Don't pay to link addresses. Sign a message instead. Then you save on transaction fees, save on the payment to Tony, and don't end up confusing yourself with change addresses. Win/win/win.

Can someone explain how to get the distribution?

I have some GBYTE on Bittrex. What do I have to do and how much will I receive?

You need to hold GBYTES or link the bitcoin addresses you own with the transition bot, then wait for the airdrop time.. The distribution is made through airdrops, so you can't claim Byteballs at any time.

The transition bot should explain everything.

I don't know when the next airdrop will be made.

Do I need to hold the GBYTE in my Byteball Wallet or can I also hand in my Bittrex address?

@CryptKeeper, thank you,  just receved  100 of 3kc7H8A2oiWr9mv7AcWJeLCA0Cp8c3BLK04kYQ+5pfU=  - which is exactly how this asset is displayed in the wallet, i.e. there is no name (Like CK1) for it. Is this as it should be? I think it would be more convinient for user to read the explicit name of the asset in his/her wallet as it is done with bytes and blackbites. I am affraid that in a while I will forget what those 100 units stands for  in my wallet

OK I'm going to announce it in this thread too.

Today I released the v1.0.0 RELEASE of the Byteball-to-TCP Proxy.

It is really easy to setup and get running. It listens on the Byteball network for new devices that pair with the proxy and for each guest device it spawns a raw TCP connection to the predefined host/port.
You can use this proxy whenever you have a service that accepts raw TCP connections and you want to expose it to Byteball wallets. By default the proxy serves the current time as given by the india.colorado.edu:13 telnet server.

How did you generate the QR code invitation for your bot device ?

I mean can you restore a light wallet from a full wallet backup?
No, you can't. The full wallet backup is a very large file.

In case of a positive answer to Q. 1) then:

Quote
4) Would I better follow another route like: installing light wallet into a temporary PC => send everything from main PC to temporary one => unistalling full wallet an installing light wallet on main PC => sanding back everything from temporary pc to main PC?
This is the way to switch from full to light wallet. I would change it a bit though:
1. install light wallet on temporary PC
2. create backup of light wallet on temporary PC
3. pair wallets to be able to send blackbytes
4. send blackbytes (this requires bytes as fee) to temporary pc
5. send bytes to temporary pc
At this point I'm not sure if your backup from before receiving them will actually restore blackbytes, hence:
6. create a new backup of light wallet
7. restore light wallet backup on main PC
8. move your Bitcoins to a new address
9. link your new Bitcoin address to your new Byteball address.

Note: I haven't actually tested this.

Need help by more experienced people than me please.

I'm currently running v. 1.9.0 of full wallet, with GB, GBB and CK1 tokens in it , and I would like to switch to light version of it but am not sure how to do it correctly; I'm planning to take following steps :
 - make a full backup
 - unistall full wallet
 - install light wallet
 - restore from full backup

Here are the questions:

1) Are above steps correct and doable? I mean can you restore a light wallet from a full wallet backup?

In case of a positive answer to Q. 1) then:

2) Will I recover either GB GBB and CK1?
3) Will I have same receveing address and therefore won't have to link again BTC I already linked to my current address or what?

4) Would I better follow another route like: installing lite wallet into a temporary PC => send everything from main PC to temporary one => unistalling full wallet an installing lite wallet on main PC => sanding back everything from temporary pc to main PC?

Thanks in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

born once atheist
finally figured out the signing message chat bot thing with my ledger wallet bitcoin addys and got all of them linked
for next full moon.  Took me like 8 tries. Hallelujah!
The chat bot was thinking like "dude, you obviously don't know how to sign a message,
just send me some bitcoin and I'll get the addy registered you dumb shit! "
ok... actually no, it didn't say that... but it should have! lol

Anyway joking aside...love this project...thank you Byteball devs/team!

Great, post any question only afterwards.

...you are still paying $2800 for one; this verses what you paid a few years ago...
Yes, you can't time travel. You can only buy at the current price if you believe it will increase more in the future. The same applies with every currency.

Does the full backup end in ".encrypted". If so -of course- it's encrypted and you'll need the password. Otherwise it should work.
Do you have the seed? If so you should be able to recover the wallet without the password using that.

Need a little guidance here...

Something is wrong and my windows 7 won't startup, so I am looking at a possible clean install.
I am afraid it will wipe out my byteball wallet - how do I save the backup that is on my desktop?

Open this folder on the Explorer and back it up:
Code:
%localappdata%/byteball
