So on July 9 0.2 bytes will be distributed for every byte owned.  Is this only for bytes that were distributed via a linked BTC address in the past or can I buy some off the exchange send them to by byteball wallet and then get the 20% on July 9?

0.2 bytes per presently owned gbytes, yes

I did sign the BTC address with my Byteball address and pasted the resulting signature into the bot, but I do not get any answer from the bot.
Are you using the latest version of the wallet?

I am using v1.9.0 light. I downloaded it approximately three weeks ago.
I don't know how the bot responds to incorrect inputs, but..
Maybe if the bot does not respond, he apparently did not get a valid BTC address?
Are you sure you sent a valid BTC address?
Please check the address: https://blockexplorer.com/

This reminds me that I read that multisig addresses don't work (the ones that start with a 3), but I think the bot should still say something
if I just say "hi" to the bot, he will tell me how many addresses I have linked ETC

My BTC address is a normal one starting with a 1.
I also tried to say "hi" to the bot, but he doesn't answer to anything, except when I enter the Byteball address, then I get a response.

I am just reinstalling the wallet...

Sorry that I couldn't be of more help, if reinstalling doesn't work, try going to the slack (I think there is a link in the first post)

Never mind, I will try going to the slack, thank you!

By the way, I am not even able to properly uninstall the wallet. Whenever I install it again there is still all my data in. Does anyone know in which folder the wallet data is saved on Windows? Normally in %appdata% but there is nothing there.

%appdata% takes you to Appdata\Roaming\
You want to go one folder back up, and then enter Appdata\Local\byteball\

Thanks!!! With that information I finally was able to properly uninstall and reinstall the wallet.
After doing that everything works now !!! The transition bot is talking to me now and I was able to link my BTC address.
I have no clue what went wrong with the first installation of the wallet, but all is working now which is great!
Again, thank you  - and everybody else who tried to help me! Love you, guys!

Hello,

I am still not able to get my BTC address linked.

I go to the Transition bot in the Byteball wallet and insert my Byteball address (by clicking on ... and then on "Insert my address").

Then I get the answer: "Got it, your Byteball address is ... [...] Alternatively, you can prove ownership of your Bitcoin address by signing your Byteball address ... if your Bitcoin wallet has "Sign message" function. In this case, let me know your Bitcoin address first."

I then enter my BTC address, but nothing happens. No answer from the bot.

Am I doing it wrong? Maybe someone can help?

Thanks, much appreciated!

You're good, but now you need to actually sign a message (put your byteball address as the message)
I wrote a guide here, in case you missed another step.

https://byteballblog.wordpress.com/how-to-get-free-byteballs

Thanks!

I did sign the BTC address with my Byteball address and pasted the resulting signature into the bot, but I do not get any answer from the bot.

When I enter the BTC address -> no answer.

When I enter the signature/signed message -> no answer.

I also read your blog post and did everything it says, but from step 12 ("12. The bot should tell you if it was linked correctly.") there is the problem because the bot does NOT talk back to me.

Any further ideas what I could try?

Thanks !!!

what happens if you just say "Hi"?

This might sound stupid but are you talking to the correct bot? The transition bot.

That is actually weird, the bot is talking to me.
Did you check the link at the bottom?
https://byteball.fr/BBdistribution.php

Maybe the bot is not talking to you, but it actually received your messages and linked it?
I'm sorry I can't be of more help, I've never encountered that issue.
All I could think about was that the bot wasn't working (it stops working after airdrops), but it's working since a few days ago already.

No, the Byteball address is not linked. When I test my address, I get: "Warning! This address is NOT linked! and has NO balance! You will receive nothing during round number 7."

I will just uninstall and reinstall the wallet, maybe then it will work. Will let you know.

Thanks!

I think if you wrote down your seed you can at least recover bytes (but not blackbytes).
Did it.
